“WAKE UP!” Alexander was startled awake.
Someone was shouting, and he was trying to understand what had happened. His memory was foggy and slow. Looking up he could see he was not in his room. Looking around, he finally realized what all the shouting was about.
There were flames engulfing the room. They weren’t yellow but green and blue.
He shook Ember to wake her. When her eyes opened, they matched that of the dancing fire about them. She looked as though she was thousands of miles away. Wrapping his arms around her, he picked her up with ease. Grabbing the blanket, he wrapped them up to protect their bodies.
Moving quickly, he made it through the flames. All forms of beings were standing at the door with water buckets ready to put it out.
Ember’s eyes quickly changed back to normal and recognition shone in her eyes. She looked at Alexander with love in her eyes. Placing her hand against his face, she brought her lips into his. They kissed deeply and passionately. Alexander would never get tired of this.
Once they separated, Emmit came up to them.
“I don’t know what is going on, but the flames are gone. I can see you have marked one another, and Alexander isn’t dying.” He observed.
Is words hit Alexander hard. He was right. The flames were gone and everyone was staring at them. None of this made any sense to any of them.
Looking at Ember, he saw the mark on her neck. Confusion set in. He couldn’t remember marking her. Complex emotions took hold in his mind.
It was like Ember could hear his thoughts.
“It was you.”
She pulled from his arms. There on her neck was an intricate number of lines wrapped in one another. It held many different colors. It was very beautiful.
Ember pointed to the mark on Alexander’s shoulder. Looking around, he found a mirror, and quickly took a look. On his neck he found similar lines, but they were scorched. It was beautiful, but it looked painful, but Alexander felt no pain.
“Is it normal for you to start a fire in your sleep?” Alexander asked Ember. She had the blanket tightly wrapped around her naked body. Alexander had shorts on.
“No. That was definitely unusual.” Ember looked around her, feeling even more uncomfortable.
“Let’s go into the room and get you some clothes.” Alexander motioned to the room.
They moved into the room and quietly Alexander shut the door. Ember allowed the blanket to fall to her feet. Her body on full display for him. His eyes grew dark as they moved up and down her body.
“Alec, eyes up here.” Ember motioned for him to move his eyes up.
His eyes moved up to hers.
“I know what you are thinking, but we need to talk about what happened. And we need to figure out how it is that you aren’t dead.”
Shaking his head to clear his mind, Alexander looked at Ember. She was right. He needed to keep his head. It was bad enough he couldn’t remember most of what had happened. Now they had a new set of questions.
They sat in silence for a while trying to figure out what had happened. His mind raced. Not being able to remember last night was really starting to become a problem.
“What happened last night?” Alexander asked Ember.
Ember explained to him everything that had happened. It was a miracle they had made it as long as they did without Alexander dying. The only difference between everything was that him and Ember had accepted their mark, mated, and completed the mating.
Thinking about what the witch had said. It would make sense. The whole point of the curse was to keep them apart. She didn’t anticipate them pushing through the curse. It all makes sense though. They are now fully bonded.
It was an elated feeling. He could feel the emotions running through Ember. Confusion, concern, worry, and warmth.
“I can feel your fear consuming you,” Ember pointed out.
“I’m just confused and to be honest. I feel like something bad is going to happen. Witches always have a back-up plan for anything and everything.”
Alexander couldn’t hide the feeling consuming him. It was a strong feeling of dread and unwelcome anticipation.
The feeling in his chest was gone, but something new had taken its place.
