Chapter 16

The remainder of the day, I was trying different foods in the market. Walking along the stone roadways. They were fortunate enough to get to help some of the people build their homes. Their gratitude was overflowing. Slowly, Alexander was winning the hearts of the people. Hopefully, he can win the heart of their Queen. The following morning, Alexander got up and went out. He enlisted the help of children to help him find the perfect flowers for the Queen. There were 3 little girls. They all squealed with excitement at the prospect of finding the perfect flowers. One grabbed Alexander by the hand and led him down a path. After a few minutes of walking, the pathway disappeared under a lavish field of flowers. It was a sight he never thought was possible. The land was inclined as the flowers rose up over the land. The hill was steep, but the children maneuvered it with ease. Running about and inspecting each flower they chose before plucking it from the earth. There were reds, yellows, and some orange mixed in with everything. Each child brought him several flowers. He found a fireflower with some black on the tips. Carefully checking it, he pulled it from the ground. Once he had a large number of flowers, they all walked back to the village. They helped Alexander arrange the flowers with some greenery to give it a warm contrast. Once they were sure it was perfect, Alexander called for Abellona to take them to Ember. Abellona’s eyes sparkled at the beautiful bouquet she held in her hand. Carefully shifting, she flew over to the main island to deliver them. Alexander watched as Abellona flew away, hoping the gesture would please Ember. They had deviated some from the itinerary, but it was proving to be beneficial. They were able to help several other families finish their homes. Beauty in the woodwork of each home. Not one was the same as the last. Each complimenting the personality of the family it was going to be housing. By the end of the day, Alexander felt elated with joy and pride. Dinner came around and they were going to be meeting with Ember at the community house. The formalities once again were followed by great conversations with Ember and Abellona. Ember expressed her appreciation for the flowers. Tonight, her eyes were glowing with joy. Although Alexander had been enjoying himself, his wolf was struggling. Unbeknownst to him, Ember was starting to feel the negative effects of not having him close by. She and her beast were one, but she could feel the fatigue coming over both of them. Flying here was difficult. She was trying hard to hide her exhaustion. As the night was coming to an end, Ember made a suggestion. “Alexander, I think we should write to one another, even while you are here.” Her idea made Alexander filled with hope. “I would love to.” The night ended quietly without incident. The following day was not as quiet. Alexander was fighting with his wolf early in the morning. His beast was also getting restless. They needed their mate. To feel her. To hold her. To complete the mating. There were many snarls and growls exchanged between the 3 of them. Emmit and Hercules noticed the tiredness in Alexander’s eyes. Along with the amount of restraint he was placing on himself to keep from going feral all over anyone and everyone near them. It was getting bad enough. By midday, they had to cancel everything for the remainder of the day. Including his visit to Ember. Alexander wrote a letter to Ember. Being completely honest, he told her of his struggles with his two beasts. It was no more than an hour later, and he was receiving another letter from Ember. She too expressed her struggles. Hercules and Emmit were concerned they were going to have to cut the visit short. They had to protect Alexander at all costs, including keeping him from killing himself. When the next day came, and everyone was exhausted from fighting the revolving emotional change in Alexander. One moment it was him, then, his beast, then his wolf. They each took turns taking control. It was wearing on Alexander. Each time he came back, his eyes grew darker, as did the circles under his eyes. His mind and body were worn down. On the final day, they were taking turns sleeping when Alexander’s beast got out. Clean ripped the door off the hinges. Anyone else wouldn’t be able to tell that it wasn’t Alexander. They didn’t know what to look for. His eyes were almost pitch black. Shifting, he ran towards the shore. The water that separated each island looked to be more of a river. After shifting, he was able to swim. Emerging from the water, his fur was soaked and dripped heavy bouts of water soaking the ground. Quickly shifting back, he made his way up the castle. Emmit and Hercules were trying to get him fast enough, but they had both fallen asleep in exhaustion. The guards at the castle were surrounding the castle. They were shifted into their dragons and werewolves. Alexander released a loud roar at their defiance. Keeping him from his mates would earn them a rate worse than death. Alexander was locked away in the back of his mind. His beast had taken over. Worry and fear coated his soul. This wasn’t going to end well for anyone. Ember heard the roar and immediately sprung into action. Jumping out her open window and quickly shifting into her dragon. Landing before her guards. She could feel something was wrong. Terrified of what was wrong with Alexander. Looking into his eyes, she could see something was wrong. Shifting back to herself, she walked up to the beast that stood before her. It looked like and smelled like Alexander, but she knew. It was not him who was in control. The beast whimpered in her presence. His hand came up and couped Ember’s cheek. Carefully and gently caressing it with his thumb. His eyes were glued to her lips. She could feel the waves of exhaustion and frustration coming from him. Her heart broke for him. It had been too much. On both of them. Wrapping her arms around him, she stood up on her toes to kiss his lips. Reassuring him, everything was going to be okay. His lips told her of his want and need. His own speaking is the same. Moving onto her feet, she took his hand and showed him into the palace. Taking him up the stairs and towards her room. One to keep him away from everyone so he wouldn’t get hurt. Second, she wanted him to be herself. She wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but she knew if she didn’t handle Alexander herself, it was going to end in bloodshed.
