The following morning, Alexander woke up hopeful. Having some understanding of why Ember was cautious. Her whole life had been a struggle. She had a whole world counting on her. One which had been built on trust after being broken for so long. This wasn’t just her and him. It was their world. The concern for her people had made sense now. They feared they were going to lose everything, not just their queen.
Alexander got comfortable on Dante. Emmit was riding on Vatra. While Hercules was riding on Abellona. Damon was unhappy with how much attention Abellon gave Hercules. They were quite smitten with one another. They had spent most of the morning talking. She gave Hercules much of her attention. Compared to that of Damon. His pride was hurt by her actions.
Jace and Ryder were impressed with her. Damon finally saw he wasn’t as desirable as he had been led to believe. They didn’t like his philandering, but he had to learn on his own.
They took to the sky as the sun rose. Dragons draw their power from the sun. This would give them strength as they flew. The air was abrasive as they flew above the sky. The air was thin and took some adjusting. Jaxon gave Alexander strength as they fled. Without his wolf, he would surely fall unconscious and suffocate slowly to death.
It was definitely beautiful. Never had he imagined seeing the world from the sky. It did give him some anxiety as the world beneath him looked so small. Each detail was almost unbelievable. The green of the grass, the little blotches of trees, along with the spots of buildings littering the land. The sun shone bright before them. His eyes had to adjust as they moved closer to it.
As the day wore on, he saw it move from before them, over them, to then descend behind them. Landing at a volcano, they took a break. Allowing Dante, Vatra, and Abellona time to recuperate from the voyage.
Surprisingly, Alexander was exhausted and felt sleep take him away as he leaned up against a warm rock. The heat is soothing his aching body and calming his thoughts. He was almost there.
Waking the following morning, the sun was barely visible over the horizon. Dante brought out each person a cooked fish he had caught from the sea. Alexander loved fish, but Dante wasn’t exactly packing spices, so it was a plain pit and tasted very swampy. Rather than offend him, he expressed his appreciation.
Once their small meals were consumed, they got back to it. Since they were further away from human civilizations, they could fly closer to the ground. Their tails playing in the water. Alexander, Hercules, and Emmit watched in awe as different forms of life rose from the water, making their presence known. Fish of all sizes and natures. Some were just curious, a few of the sharks attempted to take a bite out of the dragon. Each time, being swatted away like a pesky fly.
It didn’t take but a few more hours before they saw the islands in the middle of the ocean. Movement could be detected on each one. All forms of beings busy away with their day. Unknown of what is to come.
It was exciting to finally be seeing everything. The islands were breathtakingly beautiful. Their hills were covered in plant life. The land was large enough, it gave them enough room to grow without growing into one another. The land was lush and plentiful. Each building was different and held its own personality.
It was very obvious as to which island Ember lived on. He could see the grand castle moving towards him. As they neared the islands, they moved just a hair further east. They were taking him to another island. At this point, they still couldn’t be around each other for extended periods of time.
They landed on a barren circle of dirt. Allowing them a comfortable stop before shifting back. Quickly, they moved to show the travelers their rooms. The cottage was beautifully built. Unlike anything they had ever seen. There were slight imperfections, but it just made it more welcoming. They could see handprints on the walls and the outside where they worked to build the home.
“This is something special,” Alexander thought to himself. His wolf nodded in agreement.
They were both surprised at how beautiful something so simple could be. The space was equipped with 3 small rooms. They were large enough to fit them and the bed large enough for them, but nothing much more. There was a rock trail that led to the bathroom and shower.
The kitchen was more of a porch area. It was open, but had a roof to protect the food from the elements. Again, simple, but full of beauty. There was a large stone that would heat up once they set the fire ablaze beneath it.
There was the slightest breeze blowing through the world. It was quiet. Something they weren’t accustomed to. The world around them had been loud and busy since there were so many people and so much to do. Here the sense of urgency was quiet. The people around them were inquisitive but welcoming.
