Party I

1023 Words
Nell The mansion is definitely huge enough for you to get lost in. I can’t even see where one end begins and the other ends through my car window. I guess it pays to be a thousand years old. Once we reach the front, we step out and leave the car for the valet. I stare at the magnificence of the entrance. It takes me back to some baroque time frame castle with the intricate detail patterns on the massive doors. I nearly trip climbing up the stairs to the castle gates. Indoor is just as glamorous as outdoors. The foyer, if it could be called one, was huge. It had one massive crystal chandelier with a winding staircase. Past the statement room was the living space. And if I thought the foyer was big, this would be something in its own class. It was starting to fill up with people, but even then, I was sure it was huge enough to accommodate a whole arena. There were several huge crystal chandeliers lighting the place. I was lost in thought when I heard a deep voice behind me. “Hello, my name is Dracon. Welcome to my home.” I spin around so fast, I almost lose my balance. Strong hands encircle my waist to keep me steady. I look up to meet a pair of black eyes. “Thanks, I was startled,” I mumbled an excuse for my clumsiness. He smiles, flashing me the characteristic two enlarged fangs instead of incisors in his mouth. “That happens often when a vampire sneaks up on you,” he jokes. He is pale, as one would expect a vampire to be, but he has unruly black hair and a sharp jawline that gives him a classic sexy look. I don’t know why, but I flash him a shy smile. His grin widens at my response. “Come, let me show you around,” he says, offering his arm. I don’t know why I’m getting the VIP tour, but I link my arm with his. “When Alexis said she was bringing a friend, I didn’t expect to see someone so exquisitely lovely,” he says. Jeez, he must have mastered the art of flattery. I mean, “exquisitely lovely” is not something you definitely don’t hear but does make you feel damn beautiful. “An overstatement of who I am, but thank you for being so kind,” I tell him. My words cause a small frown to spread on his lips, but he doesn’t say anything. “This is the ballroom, but through here is the dining room and kitchen,” he tells me as he guides me gracefully around the house. Every room is grand and excessively large for a single person. “All the thirty bedrooms are upstairs, but I won’t take you to them…unless you want to…” he says. His voice is very seductive, and I know exactly what he would want to take up there. I gulp, alarm flags going off in the back of mind. “Thank you, but I think this tour has been more than sufficient so far,” I quickly responded to give him the idea of where I stand. He nods and guides me back to the ballroom. “I would be happy to accommodate anything you need, Elenaor. Just come and find me,” he says as he bends down to kiss the back of my hand. In the blink of an eye, he is gone. Why does everyone insist on calling me Eleanor? “What was that about?” Alexis asks, suddenly making herself available. “He just wanted to show me around, and where were you?” I ask. “Show you what?” She teases. I roll my eyes. What is up with people hinting at something more today? I decided not to grace her questions with a reply. After a while, she sighs and says, “I saw him, my partner.” “What!?!?! Where?” I ask. “Over there, but…he’s a human…so he doesn’t know,” she says, looking hopeless. I stare at her, the pressing question in my mind is what is a human doing here, but that wouldn’t be a good question to ask at this time. “First of all, there are plenty of supernatural beings with human mates. I mean, look at our pack! Everyone is happily mated with their humans. I really don’t think that’s something you should worry about. Second of all, you are sexy as hell, there is no way that he won’t fall head over heels. Plus he is checking you out from all the way over there, so go talk to him,” I tell her, giving her a light shove in the right direction. “Okay,” she responds, nervously, as she starts walking towards him. I frown. Alexis has always been strong, confident, independent. Seeing this side of her is so foreign. Suddenly I feel a great sadness in my heart. I want to find my mate. Jorgen I groan as I wake up in the morning. She haunted my dreams, even after my cold shower. I’m starting to really worry about my bear. Either he’s trying to tell me something or he’s just fed up with my inability to mind my partner. I take another shower, at this rate, I will be shower five times a day. I got to make this quick. After taking care of business, I get dressed and get to my office area of the hotel suite. I need to find another hotel to stay in, so I start calling around. It doesn’t take long for me to find a place, it’s in a modest part of town. I like these places for myself because although they are luxurious, it doesn’t scream wealth. I can move everything to the hotel during the day. I can call Eleanor and apologize tonight. I need to be the mature one in this relationship? Partnership? Coworkership? I’m not sure what the appropriate term is. I’ve never really had to do this before.
