Chapter 46: Doctor Gie

Capital. “WOW!!!” Mhir exclaimed as she looked outside. Her eyes were round and bright as she stared at the bake shops and stalls on the roadside with wonder. Leui smiled at her. Then, he looked at Dan’s twins who wore the same expression as Mhir. Clearly, they looked very excited. Mhir then turned to him. “Although this looks similar to the Central Plaza, there are also some differences.” She said. Leui nodded as he also looked outside. “The structure of the houses in the Central Plaza are roughly made. On the other hand, the human houses looked refined.” He said. “That’s because humans are more delicate than the other races who have rough and thick skins and strong bones.” He explained. “No wonder!” Mhir exclaimed as she continued to watch outside, especially the humans. Meanwhile, Dan’s twins stared at Leui. Their eyes are filled with worship. “You’re so smart, mister!” they said. Leui grinned. “You don’t need to flatter me.” He told them as he messed up their hair. “But we’re telling the truth!” they pouted. Leui just laughed. “Those breads are more fragrant than the ones sold in the Central Plaza!” Mhir said as she looked at the bakeshops. “And those jewels… They are very pretty!” she said. “Humans are intelligent creatures. The breads and jewelries are made through complicated processes, in which, the other races can’t accomplish.” Leui explained. “You are all amazing!” Mhir said. “Wasn’t that why manager Miao hired me?” Leui said when he remembered his previous employer in the Rogues’ Inn. The gradual change of the treatment of the other races towards him is due to him accomplishing some tasks that they can’t. Take organizing the crystals, for example. And also counting. They depend on Leui in these things. And their disdain later changed to respect. “We’re here.” they heard Fedrich speak. Leui looked outside and saw that they stopped in one of the buildings. Then, he went down and helped Dan while Marie helped Analiese out of the wagon. The knights split up earlier when they reached the Capital. Melton took the knights with him to send the thieves to the prison while Fedrich accompanied them to the doctor. Of course, he’s also monitoring Dan. “Mister Fredrich!” someone exclaimed when they came out of the building. Fedrich nodded. “Is doctor Gie inside?” he asked. “Yes. He just finished giving me an exam.” The woman said. “He’s free right now.” She added. “Thank you.” Fedrich said and turned to them. Then, he tilted his head, urging them to follow him. Everyone went inside the building. “This doctor Gie… he’s a public doctor?” Leui asked. “Yes. Fortunately.” Fedrich answered. “He must be good. His patients like him.” Leui said as he looked at the woman who has just left. “He is benevolent. He isn’t greedy. He also sympathizes with the poor, not to mention he is very skilled. That’s why I recommended you to him.” Fedrich explained. “Thank you very much!” Marie said as she helped Analiese walk. Leui looked around and felt something strange. Suddenly, a door opened and a man walked out. It was then that Leui realized after he saw him. “Everyone… has black hair and black eyes?” he asked. Fedrich stopped and turned to him. “Yes. That’s why I was surprised when I saw you.” He spoke. “I thought you are of another race, probably an elf or a fairy, as you have a different hair and eye color. If not for your build the same as us…” he said. Leui has brown hair and brown eyes. He suddenly felt awkward. When Fedrich pointed this fact out, Dan, Marie, Analiese and Mhir looked at him. Now, he felt conscious. “Mister Fedrich?” a voice spoke, breaking the awkward atmosphere. They all turned. It was a doctor, the one who just went out of the door. “Doctor Gie.” Fedrich called. “No need to address me as such.” He said when he heard the politeness in the doctor’s voice. The doctor nodded. Who knows if he will follow Fedrich’s words or not? “Is this the patient…?” he asked and looked at Analiese when his eyes caught sight of Leui. “Rui?” he exclaimed as his eyes widened in shock. Leui was surprised, as well as Mhir. “You know me?” Leui asked. “How can I not know you…?” Gie muttered when he noticed the confusion in Leui’s eyes. “You… don’t remember me?” he asked. Before Leui could answer, Mhir spoke. “Doctor. Leui has an amnesia.” She told him. “’amnesia’?” Gie muttered as he stared at Leui. “It was the dwarf who found him. He lived in the Other Shore for five years.” Fedrich spoke as he looked at Leui. One of his motives in going back to the Capital is to investigate Leui. Hearing what Fedrich said, Gie’s face changed. “What?!” he exclaimed. He has heard of the Other Shore, and he knows it definitely isn’t something good. But, what did he just hear? Leui lived there, and for five years?! He looked at Leui in shock. Leui was about to inquire with the doctor how he knew him when he suddenly saw Analiese. “Doctor, can you check her first? I will be staying here in the Capital, so we definitely can catch up with each other later.” He told him. “I also want to ask you some things.” He added. Gie composed himself and then apologetically smiled at Analiese. “Of course.” He said. “Please follow me.” He told Marie before he opened the door where he came out. “You can go. We’ll stay here and wait for you.” Leui told Marie. Marie’s eyes reddened. “Thank you.” She said in a hoarse voice. Dan stayed outside with Leui and Mhir, as well as with the twins. He knows that Fedrich is watching him, although he has no intention to escape. His daughter’s health is important. “Leui. It seems that this doctor is your friend.” Mhir spoke, breaking the silence. “It seems.” Leui nodded in agreement. “It is a pity I don’t remember him.” he sighed in helplessness. Mhir patted his shoulder in encouragement. “Don’t worry. You’ll be able to remember him later.” She told him. Leui smiled. “I hope so.” He said. Then, he turned to the silent Fedrich who was standing on the side. “Do you know anything about the doctor?” he asked. “Doctor Gie came from a rural village. He is an orphan, and he survived alone. He is known for his medical skills.” Fedrich answered. “After curing the people in his village, he went to the Capital to cure the poor people here.” he said. “He is very kind!” Mhir said. “And also handsome!” she added. “He is popular. And he is the best doctor you can find.” Fedrich told them. “He’s very accomplished.” Leui sighed with emotion. “Since you are friends… you must have been separated from each other and you wandered to the Other Shore.” Mhir said as she looked at Leui. “I think so… we’ll know once I have asked him.” Leui said. … The door opened and Gie, Marie and Analiese came out. “How is she?” Dan anxiously asked. “Her illness is curable.” Gie answered. “She has a weaker body constitution so her illness became worse.” He explained. “There was a storm when I gave birth to her, so it was very cold…” Marie cried. “I’m sorry…” she said and hugged Analiese. “How much for the check-up fee?” Leui asked. Gie turned to him, and his expression softened. “We’re friends, and you know them, so I won’t charge.” He said. Leui was about to insist when he spoke again. “Her medicines won’t be cheap, though, so you’d better spend your money on her medicines.” He told him. Leui nodded. “I understand.” He said and looked at Analiese’s complexion which turned better. “I’ve heard about their situation…” Gie spoke and looked at Marie. “If you want, you can help me out in the hospital. I was just looking for an assistant. Your daughter’s following check-ups would also be free of charge, and of course, I will pay you.” He told her. Marie’s tears fell and she bowed to Gie. “Thank you… thank you so much!” she said. “Thank you very much, doctor… Leui… sir…” Dan said and looked at Fedrich the last. Fedrich is weak with this scene. “Since you only stole things and didn’t steal lives, then your punishment is lighter.” He said. Then, he turned to Leui. “You’re just new to the Capital, so I’ll show you to the inns…” he said. Gie suddenly cut him off. “Rui… Leui. I can show you around!” he said, then paused. “Actually, you can stay with me! I have more rooms where I am staying!” he told him. “Sounds good… I’ll then pay for the half of the price. But… what about Mhir?” Leui asked. “She can stay in the neighboring room!” Gie suggested. “The neighboring room has better sunlight!” he added. As expected, Mhir’s eyes brightened. “Doctor, you’re really kind!'' She praised him. “Don’t mention it. His friend is also my friend.” Gie said.
