Chapter 1: A life of an Omega
"Hey, did you hear the news?" I heard the murmurs of students while I was on my way to my class.
"Yes. Alpha and Luna's firstborn daughter is returning after twelve years of missing," one member of my pack replied.
"Really? I thought she ran away of her own accord. Why was she returning? I heard she became a nomad and resided in one of the neutral cities in Tempest."
"No, she didn't run away. My mom saw Luna kicking her out when she was twelve."
"That's awful. Do you think the female Alpha will come home to take charge of the pack? Alpha Red was diagnosed with a fatal disease. He is in a dire situation and can no longer lead the pack."
I didn't hear the rest of the conversation as I walked away from them, avoiding any male members of my pack.
Lately, the old Alpha has taken over the pack. And I heard he sent someone to look for his missing daughter, the rightful successor to the Alpha Title. When the Werewolf welfare was established a few years ago, he started to look for his daughter. Alpha Ruben knew that he could trace his daughter, mainly; one of the welfare programs was dedicated to rogues worldwide. And he has hopes that maybe she is still alive and has become a rogue.
Nobody had seen his daughter ever since she disappeared.
"Hey Kaeya," one of our pack members, Isaiah, an omega like me, called my attention.
"What's up?" I asked him when I caught up with him.
"Our Luna told me to tell every omega to be home before six. We will have a guest from the Midnight pack. And she wanted us to prepare food for the visiting Alpha pairs. Can you pass the message to Ivon and Erwan?"
"Yeah, sure, I'll do that," I told him, smiling.
"Okay. I'll catch you later. Bye."
"Bye."
Isaiah is one of the luckiest omega males in our pack. Not only was he mated into our Female Beta, but he also has the most beautiful she-wolf in our pack despite the age gap. The bullying in our pack, especially to the omega like us, has stopped since then.
But that's only applicable in our pack, not in this university. Some jerk wolves would constantly bully and harass us omegas attending here.
This day is my lucky day because no jerks decided to bully me, and I got out of the university unscratched after class, and now I'm on my way to the pack house.
Around seven in the evening, the food was served to the extravagant dining area of the pack house. Isaiah notified the Alpha that food was ready, and it only took a couple of minutes before the door opened and a strong presence of visitors entered the area to eat. We served them while pretending we didn't hear a glimpse of their conversation.
"When will your daughter arrive, Helena?" Luna Lumine asked our Luna.
"She'll be here in two weeks, Lumine. Don't worry. We have a lot of plans to prepare for the wedding."
"With all due respect, Luna. How sure are you that your daughter will be fine with this idea? You haven't seen her for years," said Alpha Jexus, the current Alpha of the Midnight pack.
"She will, Jexus. Don't worry," our very Alpha replied confidently.
"Dad, I doubt that this idea will be fine with Aeris. She's not like what you picture of her. Try talking to her first before making this plan without letting her know. We both know what she is capable of. I hardly convinced her to come home, and with this arrangement? I don't know if she'll agree with this," our former Alpha spoke with his mate behind him.
"It'll be fine. Aeris will agree with this, don't worry."
Although my former Alpha's eyes were reluctant, he didn't speak further.
It was midnight when the visiting Alpha pairs from the neighboring pack left.
Isaiah gave me the leftover food and told me to go. He knew my situation in my house, and he understood me.
"Come down here, you worthless piece of a s**t!" My mother's voice echoed throughout the whole house.
"Coming, mom!" I yelled at her to hear me.
My breathing becomes shallow, and my heartbeat echoes loudly in my ears. I gulp and force myself to stand up from the chair I am sitting on.
My wide, panic-filled eyes flit around my room around peeling paint walls and the small study table I bought at a yard sale. Everything in my room is worth a partial penny.
"Come down, you bastard!" the voice, hoarse from years of smoking, hollers again. I jump up slightly, and my fingers tighten their grip on the edge of the cot of their own accord.
"Just go, Kaeya. Mom will not like letting her wait. Go and be done with it," my wolf told me.
And when I heard a loud bang downstairs, I mustered up everything in me and stood up. I swallow heavily and shrug my backpack over my shoulder, making my way out of my closet-sized room.
I close the withering wooden door behind me, not wanting to piss mother off further. I pray to the goddess to help me traipse downstairs, making the least amount of sound possible. My sneakers made a loud sound when my feet hit the base of the stairs, making me cringe.
I look down to see that I've stomped on a piece of broken glass littering the floor, glass that wasn't there when I returned home last night.
"Hurry up!" Mother yelled at me and flinched at the pain and harshness in her voice. I rush across the hall to the kitchen, not paying attention to anything else I might step on, seeing as there's no point in trying to be silent anymore.
"Give me my breakfast!" she shrieks as the sound is similar to a dying hyena.
I hastily opened the fridge and pulled some eggs and other ingredients from it. I grabbed the pan hanging from a hook to the side and quickly set it on the stove, hurrying to prepare her breakfast with my work.
