The Confrontation

Bianca The room felt suffocating, with the weight of my brother’s words pressing down on me like a dreaded nightmare. “You disappoint me, Bianca.” His accusation echoed in my mind, each syllable a sharp reminder of my own betrayal. I had shattered the image he held of me. I sat on the edge of my bed, my hands trembling as tears streamed down my cheeks. I thought of Daniel, his eyes dark with disappointment and disbelief. The warmth of his embrace, the strength of his love—I had tarnished it. With trembling hands, I wiped my tears, trying to regain control of my emotions, as I heard a knock on the door. “Who is there?” I asked. My voice cracked. “It’s me, my lady,” she replied. “You should go back, Amber. I am not in the place to talk to you,” I responded with a heavy sigh. “I needed to tell you...” “Amber,” I called, cutting off her words. “Please respect my word.” “I’m sorry, my lady,” she pleaded. I could hear her footsteps as she walked away. It was total silence as I began crying again. I had lost everything. I had lost myself and someone close to my heart. I curled myself into a ball as I wept myself to sleep. I didn’t know how long I slept, but by the time I woke up, it was late in the evening. “Amber,” I called, ringing the bell. She immediately rushed toward me. “You called for me, my lady,” she asked as she entered. “Yes, I am sorry for how I behaved towards you earlier,” I apologized. “You don’t have to apologize to me, my lady. I understand what you are going through,” she muttered. “It’s not your fault.” I smiled before asking. “Where is my brother?” “He is with your mother,” she replied. I sighed. I knew my mother must be saying nonsense to Daniel. She must be darkly painting me. I breathe out. “Okay.” “Do you need me to get you someone?” she inquired. “My lady.” “No, you can go," I mumbled. As she reached for the doorknob to leave, she turned back and called out to me. “Lady Bianca, do you need me to call your brother for you?” My eyes blinked. I was terrified by hearing the word ‘brother.’ With a grumble, I replied. “No. You don’t have to stress yourself.” “Okay. Please call me anytime you need something.” “I will do that. Thank you, Amber.” I rose to my feet before stripping off my clothes and walking into the bathroom. I took a quick bath, wiped myself, and rushed back into the room. I applied lotion to my skin, then took out a pair of pants and a top. After putting on my clothes and my shoes, I opened the door and walked out of the room. I headed straight to where they were. Daniel was sitting beside our father, but our mother was not there. Where is she? No matter how hard I tried to pretend that I was fine, my skin color still gave me away. “Bianca, why are you like this?” Father asked as I approached them. “So pale. Are you okay?” “Yes, Father, I am fine,” I replied with a smile, covering my pain. He caressed my cheek gently before holding my hand and directing me to sit on the sofa. I was seated beside him. “Good morning, brother,” I greeted. He groaned, waving his hand as if he were being forced to answer me. “Good morning, Bianca.” My hand turned into a fist as I felt a sharp pain in my heart. The surrounding aura almost suffocated me as Father spoke. “What the hell is happening?” He demanded with a growl. “Why are you acting like this towards your sister, son?” “Father, I am not in a good mood,” he uttered. “At least I reply to her greetings.” “You.” Father smacked his hand on the table. “What the heck is going on here?” Mother’s sharp voice echoed throughout the sitting room. “Why are you yelling at your son?” Father took his time to explain everything to her. “Oh… Is that it?” She scoffed. What else was I expecting? Was she not the one who caused all this? “You don’t have to be angry, Peter. I am sure he didn’t mean it.” She turned to face Daniel. “Are you okay?” “Yes, I am,” he answered. “Good. The food is served. Let’s eat.” We all went to the dining area. I took my seat away from my brother and picked up my spoon, stealing a glance at him. As if he knew I was going to look at him, our eyes met, and he gave me an evil stare, making my smile fade quickly. He looked at me as if I were nothing. His eyes, which once held admiration for me, now showed disgust. One thing became clear: He hated me and I decided to leave it at that. If he hated me, so be it. I pondered on this over and over until I finished my meal. As I stood up to leave, someone walked in without warning. “Good morning, my lady,” the guard greeted me. “Good morning to you, Beta and female Beta.” “Good morning,” we all replied to him. “Why are you here?” Mother asked with a beam. “The prince needs the lady’s presence,” he announced. “Me? Why?” “I don’t know,” he retorted. “He needs your presence now in his office.” “You should go,” Mother stated. “You both need to discuss your engagement.” I gathered my courage and looked in my brother’s direction. He seemed not to be affected as he continued to eat his food. “Okay, I will be back. Let’s go.” I followed the guard as he led me to the prince’s office. I looked around. The air enveloping this place was stifling. The dark aura wasn’t something I was used to or could ever get used to in the future. Huh! Who am I kidding? Would I really have a future with him? The guard knocked on the door as soon as we arrived. “Come in,” the prince spoke. His cold voice behind the door made me tremble. He opened the door and we walked in. “My prince,” the guard stated, bowing his head in respect. “She is here.” “Okay, Leo. You can go.” He bowed his head again and left. I stood there in front of him as he continued doing his paperwork. The dimly lit room was filled with tense silence as I stood there, my heart pounding. The sound of the prince’s pen echoed in the background, adding to the atmosphere of despair and uncertainty. “My prince,” I greeted, notifying him of my presence. I had been standing there for so long without him attending or acknowledging my presence. “Are you fed up already?” He questioned. His voice was dripping with venom. “Are you tired of standing?” “My prince.” “Shut up!” he yelled. I was taken aback. I was frozen as he lifted his head. The look in his gaze made me want to die of shock. It was pure hatred. I could feel his anger radiating from him. His eyes bore into mine. I forced myself to stay still, my heart pounding in my chest. “Why?” He whispered before rising from his seat. “Why did you tell your father that you are in love with me?” I could not speak. The air surrounding us was evil. Fear enveloped me as the prince’s anger intensified. I could feel my body trembling and my mind racing with confusion and regret. I wanted to run but I couldn’t. More fear gripped me as Prince Finn approached me with a sinister smile on his face. He grabbed my clothes. “Why did you insist on marrying me when I don’t love you?” I was shaking. “I want you to tell me.” I couldn’t speak out due to fear. He finally let me go. “I want you to tell your father that you are no longer interested in me,” he sneered, folding his hands as he took his seat on the sofa in his office. “You don’t love me, and you don’t want anything to do with me. Go tell him that. Cancel the engagement while I am being nice to you.” “No.” I finally found my voice. “I can’t do that.” I could see his body tense as he looked at me as if he was going to kill me. “I won’t cancel the engagement. I love you, and I am going to be your queen.” “Even when you are not my mate?” he asked, gritting his teeth together. “Yes, even when we are not each other’s mates.” Why would I cancel the engagement when my brother’s life was at stake? Why should I endanger his life when I knew my mother would kill him if I dared to cancel the engagement to the prince? I couldn’t take the risk. I wanted nothing but to see him happy. My brother, my mate. “Really?” He howled. “You won’t cancel it?” “Yes, my prince, I won’t,” I affirmed firmly, not caring what he could do to me. “You will marry me whether you like it or not.” With speed, he grabbed me by my neck. I gasped for air and struggled to breathe as he tightened his grip. Was the prince thinking of killing me? Just when I thought I could die, someone walked in, interrupting him.
