Chapter Two

1039 Words
I decided to walk to work this morning since Mrs. Madell on lived a few blocks apart. Besides, I need the cardio anyway. My best friend, Rosetta and I were on the phone since before I left the house. We've been friends over 7 years and our bond is unbreakable. She was the closest thing to a sister to me and I always seeked out her advise. I wanted to mention the gardner to her but I felt like now may not be the best time since I don't even know what he actually looks like yet. *** By 1:33PM, I was already more than half way done with the tasks left for me by Mrs. Madell. She had me organize the books in her library today and do some general clean ups of a few of the bedrooms in the house. Yes, I said a few. This lady has an extremely large house and I still have 3 more bedrooms to go but she said I didn't need to necessarily cover all of them today. As soon as I got here this morning,  Mrs. Madell complimented my baking skills and said that my cookies were "superb". She asked me to teach her my recipe sometime and I gladly agreed. So far, she has been a great boss to me. In the midst of my cleaning though, I always kept an eye outside of the window waiting on the gardner to return. What am I doing? I rubbed my temples for a second as I realized my behaviour was just so juvenile. However, this could be marked as pure curiosity. Yeah, that's exactly what it is - curiosity. I bet that as soon as I see his face, I'll be fine and be able to go along my merry way without him even crossing my mind. That's got to be it. In came another ring from the doorbell at that moment, and it frightened me for a split second. Mrs. Madell didn't mention any visitors so I had not been expecting anyone. Making a dash to the front door, I placed the duster on the small table near the door and straightened my shirt. As I opened the door, I was greeted by a young lady, who appeared to be probably similar in age with myself. She has bright hazel eyes which scanned my face intently. "Who are you?," she asked me, looking ready to ask me a million questions. I gave her a small smile to remain polite as I replied, "I'm Raquel. I'm Mrs. Madell's new house sitter. Can I help you?" The young girl seemed satisfied with my answer and I saw her visibly relax. Seems we both frightened each other. "I'm sorry. I'm Eden. Mrs. Madell is my grandmother. I was just stopping by to see her but I assume she's not around, right?", she said to me as she stretched out her hand to me and I shook it. I explained to Eden that Mrs. Madell was not around but she would be back within the next few hours. Eden told me she would probably swing by later as she was on her way to a class. She bid me farewell and I bid her the same as she turned to walk away and I closed the door. I made a mental note to remind myself to mention to Mrs. Madell that she came around. While grabbing the duster to resume my duties, I heard the main gate whistle once more, which meant that it was pushed open. It could not have been Mrs. Madell because it was too early. Could it be? *** I'm a f*****g stalker. Look at me, looming in the corner of the window trying to get a look at his face. It was the gardner that came in and I swear I felt my heart skip two whole beats in my chest. What the f**k is this? He was wearing another white Tee with blue baggy jeans that had holes in the knees and a half torn pocket on the left side. He was currently taking some supplies out of the shed in the back yard and I was in the window in one of the bedrooms just stalking him. From here, I could see the sweat glistening off his defined arms and sweat stains forming on the back of his Tee. That looked incredibly sexy to me. God, why am I so thirsty? It's just his face. Just one look at his face and I won't even have to worry about him again.  Remember, it's just curiosity. Intently, I continued to stare at him, waiting for him to turn around but then I glanced up at a clock on the wall. I snapped myself out of my daze and went back to continue my work before Mrs. Madell gets back. I hurried out of the room and went down to tidy up the kitchen, which was my last task for the day before I could call it quits. ***** I rinsing up the last few dishes so I could dry and pack them away. Mh mind still wandered to the gardner and I kept asking myself if he was still out there. My curiosity was still getting the best of me but I had a job to do and I intended to ensure that it was completed first. As I grabbed the faucet's head to turn it off, I heard a loud snap and water began to spray me. The f*****g faucet head broke. I dropped the bowl in the sink with a loud yelp and I tried to block the water with my hands but that obviously didn't work. Quickly, I went under the sink and turned off the faucet manually and the water stopped spraying. A sigh escaped my lips. Just great. I broke the damn sink. How am I going to explain that? I took my shirt off which was now soaked in water and I began to wring it in the sink to get the excess water out. As if God himself spoke to me, behind me I heard a voice. "Are you okay?" I froze and turned around fast enough to give me whiplash. My eyes opened wide and I think I already caught a heart attack. The. God. Damn. Gardner.
