CJ’s P.O.V.
“What the hell has got you so worked up?” Zach asked me, as we made it into the Alpha’s house.
“I don’t know.” I answered, lying straight through my teeth and hoping that this way, Zach would leave me the hell alone with my own thoughts. Just thinking back at this girl, made my heart race. Not to mention the hard one that was throbbing inside of my pants, as I remembered my hands on her body again, as I remembered the look in her eyes when I had held her in my hands.
FUCK
I fought the urge to groan, as we made it up the stairs and towards our bedroom. I thought back at the moment when my nose was in her neck, when I had taken in her scent, and when I had looked at her bare skin, and how inviting it looked, how it had lured me in, wanting nothing more than to claim her right then and there. Making her f*****g mine.
FUCK
“Did you know that girl? Did anyone say anything about her?” I asked Zach, who looked at me in surprise.
“Why do you ask?” Zach asked, as a frown formed deep in his forehead.
“Just answer the f*****g question, you shithead!” I growled at him, which made Zach take a step back and lift his hands at me, meaning he meant me no harm.
“No dude, I don’t know her. And I followed you, as soon as I noticed that you had walked out. I didn’t go back to chitchat with a guy you had just knocked out for no reason.”
This time, I did groan, as I made it to my bedroom door, rubbing my hands over my eyes.
“ OK, I’ll see you tomorrow.” I spoke to Zach, as I stepped inside. Not giving him a chance to ask or tell me anything, before I closed the door on him. I wasn’t in any mood to talk anymore right now.
I sighed deeply, as I laid myself on my bed. Staring at my bedroom ceiling as I slowly drifted off in my dreams…
“Alpha, there has been an attack on the Opal pack, one of their males is at our borders, asking for our help.” Zach came in running, his eyes looking worried, as he told me the news.
“Did another pack attack them?” I asked him, as I stood up from behind my desk, walking over to him.
“No Alpha, it seems to be rogues.” I sighed, as I shook my head, those f*****g rogues were like the damned plague. They would never stop spreading death, wherever they went.
“Gather the warriors, tell the wolf we’ll come and help his pack wherever we can.” I knew the Opal pack well, it was one of our neighboring packs. It was a small pack, which made it an easy target for rogues. I just hoped there would be something of the pack left by the time we arrived to help.
I shifted into my wolf, Echo, as soon as I made it outside, running towards the location of the Opal pack, my Beta and Gamma at my sides and my warriors right on our tail.
We made it to the Opal pack at full speed within fifteen minutes. As soon as we made it, I already knew it was too late. I knew it because of the sounds… I heard absolutely nothing… This was the sound of death.
I shifted back into my human form, as I looked around. The Opal pack lived in tents, and they were all destroyed. Belongings were scattered all over the place. The rogues must have raided this place, taking all belongings that had any value, before they left off. But besides raiding the place, it looked like they had just murdered every single wolf that they could find. Body after body was lying on the ground, torn to pieces, blood everywhere. They didn’t even spared the pups.
As we made our way deeper inside the Opal pack, my ears picked up some sounds, cries. There were still some wolves and she-wolves alive, and they needed our help, fast.
I directed my medical staff to help as many wolves as they could. And as I turned to take in my surroundings, I saw the body of the Alpha. He was dead, but the rogues had hung his dead body in a tree like a scarecrow, making sure everyone who came by would see it. It made my blood boil!
I ordered my guards to take the Alpha’s body down immediately. I had known this man, and he had not deserved this death, nor the attack on his pack. A she-wolf came running to us, her body covered in blood. “Please, help us!” She cried as I looked at her, shocked by the way she looked.
“We have all the wounded in the tent. Please, hurry!” She screamed, as I turned to look at my men.
“Listen to her, go and help them. Try to save as many lives as you can.” And I followed my men, as we walked into a tent.
I was shocked, as I looked around, there were so many wounded and dying wolves and she-wolves inside this place, this must have been, without a doubt, the worst attack I had ever seen in my entire life. These rogues really came to kill, to erase this entire pack. I took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. I needed to, as an Alpha, my wolves and now the wolves inside this tent needed me to stay calm and be a leader to them. But I was surprised, because of the smell of all the blood, I sensed something else. Something woke up my wolf as he started to whimper.
MINE
He howled it inside of me, so loudly. And as that one word clicked inside of me, I panicked.
NO!
My eyes searched through the bodies, there was blood, so much blood. My body started to run throughout the tent, looking at every body… male…male…male…child…and I froze.
My breathing stopped and my f*****g body froze, right where I was standing.
A she-wolf was lying on the ground, she was wounded badly, she had cuts and bruises all over her body, but the worst one was in her neck. Her throat was ripped apart.
And as my eyes went up, to take a look at her face, her eyes were staring right back at me.
She had brown eyes, eyes that were starting to get foggy.
She was dying
that girl was dying
My mate was dying.
I almost jumped over to her, grabbing her hand in mine. My breathing hitched, as I saw the look in her eyes. She felt it too, the mate bond. I placed my hand on her hair, brown hair, hair that was sticky and wet from all the blood.
“HELP ME!” I roared, as I ordered my men to come over to me.
They needed to help her!
They needed to save her!
Two guards of mine came running over immediately, as they started to work on her body. But once they reached her neck, one of them looked up to face me. Pressing his lips in a thin line as he shook his head.
WHAT?
I growled, as I pushed the guard away, taking some pieces of fabric, to push it against her neck. Hoping I would be able to stop the bleeding.
Blood,
So much blood,
too much blood.
Her eyes searched for mine, and as I looked back at her, she tried to say something to me, but all I could hear was a gurgling sound, she was suffocating in her own blood that was flooding her lungs and throat.
What am I going to do?
“Don’t you dare die on me!” I commanded her in my Alpha voice, knowing deep down that she wouldn’t be able to follow my command. For one because I wasn’t her Alpha, two because I knew what was happening. She couldn't fight this anymore.
I wouldn’t be able to save her.
So all I could do, was take her body, as I scooped my hand underneath her and pulled her straight into my lap, her head resting against my chest, feeling my body relax under her touch.
What am I going to do?
Her breathing got shallow, meaning she was slipping away from me.
I was losing her.
I was losing my mate when I had just found her.
What on earth did I ever do, to deserve a punishment like this?
And slowly, I felt my mate’s life drifting away from her body, until she stopped breathing, and I was left with a corpse resting in my arms. Feeling how the mate bond broke, at the same time she took her last breath.
As guards tried to come for me, all I would do was roar at them, making sure they would stay away. And that’s where I stayed. I stayed inside the tent filled with corpses. I stayed there for hours, just looking at the body of the girl that was once my mate, as my body and mind got consumed with grief, anger and sadness. I needed to do something, anything. But all I could do, was hold on to her dead body for dear life, while I didn’t even know her name. I cried, I screamed, I roared until my body was so worn out that I had somehow fallen asleep. Waking up the day after, without her body in my arms. All alone, as if nothing had happened, while my entire world had broken down.
I gasped for air, as I sat up straight in my bed, the sounds of my own screams still filling the room. I looked around in panic, until my mind had caught up to me, letting me know I was safe. That I was inside the Hyle pack, and that this all just now, had just been a dream. A dream that had been hunting me each and every night, since it had happened.
