When Fitz and Wyss walked into Colonel Hansen"s office, they saw Sokolov still sitting behind the desk, despite the late hour. Her homework was spread out before her, but she was staring at the closed door to the inner office with a glassy look to her eyes.
"All right, Sokolov?" Fitz asked, and she jumped.
"Oh, I didn"t hear you come in," she said. She still sounded dazed.
"Is everything all right?" Fitz asked again.
Sokolov blinked and finally seemed to really see him. Then she smiled, genuinely happy to see him. "It"s been a weird day. And a long one."
"I"m surprised you"re still here. We thought we might have to track the colonel down in his quarters, but stopped here first just to check. What"s he doing in there?" Fitz asked.
