Tove Lo- Cool Girl
Sasha:
"Present your report, Princess Sasha Airstorm," Elder Brucie instructed.
I've been gone for an entire month. Maybe a little longer. I have never left Breeze alone that long. Before I left she told me that she was working on something big so she had urged me to hurry back and I missed it. I missed it. Her big break came and there was no one sitting on the reserved for family section of the auditorium. How could I be so stupid? She must be so hurt.
"Princess, your report," Elder Redwood called out louder finally catching my attention.
"I'm sorry. I'm a little distracted," I apologized, looking up at them. Redwood is new and kind of hot in a too young to be my dad but old enough to tell me not he has a business meeting in the morning so he won't be spending the night kind of way. That's distracting.
"It's alright, Sasha. Gather your thoughts. Why don't we postpone the report for Friday? It was foolish of me to request an immediate report," Elder Brucie apologized.
"No, no. It's fine. We're already here. I have my written report here as well as the reports of the rest of my teammates. The mission was a success. We returned the firestone," I handed him the files.
"What took you so long?" Elder Redwood asked, taking the files from him. Oh, sorry. Stop thinking about it, Sash.
"The description on the original order was incorrect. We were trapped in a loop spell," everyone sat up and began to murmur among one another. Elder redwood's eyes stayed on me before he looked down at the file in front of him. The one with my name on it.
"How on earth did you get out of a loop spell?" Elder Redwood stood up, coming over to me before taking my hand. He's touching me. Relax. It's just- what was I thinking about? Talking. The loop spell. Bleh.
"After some time you realize it's a loop and you have to break the cycle by-" I paused remembering how things were different in the loop. How I was completely blindsided by it at first.
"By?" he gently coaxed.
"You have to stop wanting what it's giving you. It stayed for a bit it was so easy to accept it at first but I knew it wasn't real. I was the first to break it and I dream jumped to help the others," I cleared my throat. He's still holding my hand. He smells expensive. He's dressed expensive. Wow. His jade green eyes are mesmerizing this close.
"You broke all of them?" he asked. That voice. His voice is deep, low, very intimidating. The aura around him is just power. Stop.
"Yes, I had to set up a drip and some other weird things to help our bodies stay alive. Then Prince Rey made sure things kept going for Lord Elias and me while we were under,"
"Yes, that makes sense," he nodded but there is still a sense of disbelief in his tone. I kind of need him to say my name.
"Right, Elder Redwood," I agreed. He looked up at me briefly.
"The Fire Crystal is back where it belongs. Which is all that matters," he let go. "Why don't you go home to your sister and get some rest? All of you. I am extending your floor time. We are going to have to extract the information you have gathered so we test this out on the field. Do you understand?"
"One hundred percent, sir. I am sure the others would be glad to hear that we're getting some rest," I agreed right away. I didn't even have to bring it up. I had a big speech prepared to request more downtime. "I hope,"
"Great. You did well, Lady Sasha. You all did," they both came down to congratulate me. He said it. He said it and it was great. Ah!
"I can go now?" I asked.
"Yes, you are dismissed," Elder Redwood confirmed. I rushed out of there as if my life depended on it. I did not just do that. He is ridiculously hot for an Elder. He has to have just made rank. I need to know more about him. I was paying for my groceries when my phone began to buzz.
"Elias? How did it go?" I asked, hoping she said yes and I can tell them about the Elder at dinner.
"Not good," he growled. I finished bagging my things and began to walk out.
"What do you mean not good? Did she say no?" I asked worriedly.
"She's with that f*****g overachieving douche bag, Falcon Malory," he huffed. "Sage, I knew this was a bad idea. I mean come on. I'm just a soldier and she needs someone who is there, you know? I'm never there,"
"Awe, you and me both, buddy. The good news is they said yes to the extension," I tried to cheer him up but now that I've said it out loud, he's not going to want to stay grounded if it means watching Breeze hang out with Falcon.
"How is that good news? There's something else. I don't want to be the one to tell you. You should hear it from her. I'll talk to you later, Sasha. I'm not coming to dinner," he hung up.
"No," I sang into my phone feeling the fluttery feeling in my belly disappear.
"Lady Sasha?" I turned around to see the cashier standing behind me.
"Yeah?" I asked her. She came over to me and placed her hand on my shoulder in a comforting manner. Did she hear that?
"I know you're having a bad day. I mean I don't know. Your tone just suggests you are but uh. You didn't pay,"
"Oh, no. I am so sorry, Vanessa," I pointed at her name tag. She laughed.
"It's okay. We know who you are. Everyone is excited about your return," she grinned. I followed her back inside to pay for my groceries and then embarrassingly glided back home.
Daisy, our mini unicorn greeted me excitedly as I made my way inside. I laughed when a new addition to the family cautiously approached me from the perch it had been sitting on in the living room. She got herself a mini pegasus. Elias is going to flip when he finds out. He loves animals more than anyone I know. Expect maybe, my sister. Falcon freakin Malory? Is she kidding me? He is the man of the year. That is a tough act to follow Elias. Sweet fireflies. But also I am hurting for my dear friend.
"You're new, huh cutie?" I held my hand out for her pegasus to sniff. "My name is Sasha and I live here sometimes. You can call me Sage. All my friends do,"
She came closer and let me pet her. Once she was comfortable enough to completely let me hold her I cradled her into my arms and reached for her collar while rubbing her cute little ears. This thing is the size of a cat. I love her.
"Serenity," I read the nametag. She buckled and glided away from me joining Daisy who is rolling around on the floor. "I will get started on dinner,"
I began to prepare our favorite family dinner. This is devastating. My last mission was awkward as hell. We got caught in a time loop and not only did I have to break out of mine but I had to help them and let's just say that a whole lot of secrets came out. I mean things that I think deep down we all knew about each other but never really accepted any of them until we came face to face with the cold should have stayed isolated truth inside the loops.
I can live with Elias being in love with Breeze, though. It means she'll always be protected and loved. It means she could let go of all that pressure she walks around with. I've seen her get lost in the stories he tells her and he takes a genuine interest in her work. He studies it in between breaks when we're out on the field. He double-majored so that he always had something to talk about with her and somewhere along the way he fell in love with it and her. It's such a cute story. I want to see more of them.
"I'm home," Breeze called from the door. The sound of hooves rushing towards her made me laugh. I miss her so much. I miss being home so much. But I have to do this for her. A mind like Breeze's only comes by once in a generation and she is killing it out there.
"Hey," I called out to her.
"You know we could have just gone out to celebrate your welcome back. You're cooking? Are you kidding me?" she laughed coming over to me.
"It's our thing. We've done this since you and Elias were little," I rolled my eyes. At the mention of his name, her expression turned grim. Her pretty sky blue eyes got dark and her aura dampened. She tucked her legs up and floated onto the middle island stool. "Oh, baby. What happened?"
"I don't know, Sash. I am so sorry,"
"Why are you apologizing to me?" I asked.
"I saw the letter," she explained. She got up and walked over to her room before coming back. I washed my hands and turned down the burner. She held it up.
"Oh, no. The letter is from the Eldian Society. I should have burned this," I ripped it up. "Bre, we declined the request. It's not an order. Since my wings are coming in, they're going to start suggesting potential suitors for me in other kingdoms. They sent me one for Rey too. We thought it was hilarious. I have like four others. They were just making sure the options were unavailable. You know a lot of Guardian teams marry each other,"
"Right, the bloodline thing they do for soldiers," she nodded.
"Yeah, but it's less formal than it seems. There are fairies that do that. The purer families do that. They're super hardcore in the military. I would never do that. We're brand new to this anyway. I freaked out the first time it happened. I was on Helion," I laughed.
"Oh," She sat down. I think she's relieved to hear me say that. "Something happened,"
"I know. He called me," I nodded. "We're kind of close. We talk,"
"What did he say?" she asked rushing the words out as fast as she could.
"That you're dating Falcon Malory," I swallowed when she got in my face. She can be scary sometimes.
"No, I'm not," she floated back disgusted. "Falcon? Ewe," she laughed. "Falcon and I are friends. He's kind of a man w***e. I would never. I mean I've picked him up from some crazy situations and I can easily say f**k no. He's just my assistant,"
"You dropped an F-bomb," I pointed out. She sighed, her body slumped forward and she floated there in a circle. I went back to the kitchen to keep cooking. That was a crazy misunderstanding. "Would you really have been okay with me and Elias getting married?"
"I mean-" she paused. "No," she shook her head. "I just didn't think-"
"He's been into you for a long time, Bre. You never noticed?" who am I kidding? I never saw it. I didn't know much about him when he became the Lord of the Realm. I just knew he and Breeze were close. They're the same age.
"Are you serious? Lord Elias is into me? Why? I am-" she straightened up and floated back to the island with speed while thinking of a word to describe herself. "Weird,"
"You're not weird," I went over to her and fixed her glasses.
"Yes, I am. I am nothing like you guys. I mean you guys save people. You collect data and single-handedly push back dark fae. I read the data you find and solve for the question mark," she rolled her eyes.
How can she think that? How does she not know how extraordinary she is? I see it now. Why Elias is completely in love with her. My sister is oblivious and he just wants to protect her. My little blueberry. I love her so much and Falcon Malory does not deserve her. I made out with that guy at a party once a few years ago. Him and his brother. This is going to be an awkward reunion if she ever brings him around.
"You are the stupidest smart person I know. Blueberry, you need to talk to him,"
"I'm not a little kid anymore. Stop calling me that," she glared at me playfully. "I've tried to call him and I've got nothing,"
"This is a location stone," I took mine out of my pocket. I put it up to my lips. "Take her to Elias," I whispered. The red stone began to glow and went over to her. "Follow it. It'll take you right to him,"
"Are you serious? Right now?" she asked, eyes wide.
"Not right now?" I asked her. She looked at the stone and then at me.
"I-um. Okay right now," she nodded excitedly.
"Go," I motioned the stone. She laughed and followed it out the door. I sent him a text in case he's being a jerk and doing something weird.
-LC Stone headed ur way (me)
-Wut? (Elias)
-My sis is headed over. Hear her out or ur on jury duty (me)
-I h8 u so much rn (Elias)
-cm bck w/ her (me)
-get the mail (Bre)
I didn't reply to either of them. I finished making dinner and began to set everything up. I went over to the door to see the mailbox keys in the bowl, she made this one. Cute. I rushed downstairs to go over to the apartment building's mailroom. I reached for the mail to see a couple of smart people magazines and some bills. I shut the box again before turning around just to pull back when a Demi-Gorgon slid past me going really fast. He almost knocked right into me. Had I not caught him in my peripheral vision he would have plowed right into me. That would have hurt.
"Stop him. He stole my backpack," a guy called from down the hall.
I dropped my mail without thinking and reached out with my obsidian whip. It wrapped around the end of the Demi-Gorgon's snake-like tail and pulled him back. I stood in his way as he was propelled back towards me. He cried out when my elbow met his chin. His head whipped back stunning him. He tried to sit up only to fall back unconscious. It was all I needed. I pinned and cuffed him with my obsidian magic. The guy ran over to us.
"Thank you. Thank you so much. All of my things are in here," he took the backpack from the unconscious bag snatcher. "You're Princess Sasha Airstorm,"
"I am. Are you okay? He didn't hurt you did he?" I asked worriedly.
"No, I had forgotten my phone so I set my bag down in the doorway to rush back into my apartment to get it and he ran by and took it. You just saved my life. My presentation for today is in here,"
"Your work presentation? I laughed standing up. Is that what was crossing his mind while getting robbed? How adorable. I pulled the Demi-Gorgon up and tossed him over my shoulder.
"Yes, I'm a neuroscience engineer. I reprogram minds through compulsion magic,"
"Wow, that is cool. You make changes in people's brains to make them better," I nodded.
"Yes, that is exactly what I do," he smiled awkwardly.
"My sister is big on all sciences so I know my way around big words," I explained myself.
"I know. You're Lady Breeze Airstorm's sister. I follow her work closely. I'm a big fan. How exciting to be related to one to one of the greatest minds in all of Fae history. Light and Dark. A-an-and you. You're one of the most brilliant Guardians alive. I mean wow. You two are just amazing," how cute is he?
"Thank you. What did you say your name was?" I asked. Wow, first the Elder and now this guy? The universe loves my return home. Thank you.
"I didn't. I'm- I'm sorry. My name is Elvin Drake," he looked around to see my mail on the ground. That name sounds familiar. "Your mail. I've got your mail." he picked it up. "I can hold on to it if you like?"
"You have to come with me to file an official report at the station. I'm kind of just a bystander. You might want to call late into work,"
"Don't worry about it. They can wait," he waved me off.
"Let's go then," I motioned him to follow.
