Chapter One
This is book two of the 'bad boy' series, following on from 'A Deal with the Bad Boy'. we follow Declan through his first year of college. I would suggest that you read Wade's story first as there will be spoilers mentioned in this and subsequent books, though you can read them as stand alones as well :) Declan’s POV Pulling up outside of Matheson Alumni University or MAU as every damn jumper in the vicinity was proudly emblazoned with, I pushed open the door to my Mercedes and stepped out into the blazing heat. Shielding my eyes as I glanced around me, I took in my new home for the next four years, watching the other students that were rushing around without sparing a glance in my direction. This was one of the most prestigious business colleges in the country and my father had paid a hefty donation to secure my enrolment. He had come here at eighteen and he was damned if his son and heir weren’t going to follow in his footsteps. Scowling in anger, I shut the door with an aggressive slam as I silently grumbled about the fact that I couldn’t bring Delilah, my beloved motorbike, with me. With this heat and those straight open roads, we would have had the time of our life, but mother had put her foot down, I was bringing the Merc and that was final. Making my way to the trunk, I slid in the key and popped it open, grabbing some boxes and my suitcase, before using my elbow to shut it again and headed toward the campus. Dad and Yvonne had tried to convince me to let them come and help me settle in, but it was a long f*****g drive, so I talked them out of it. Corks and Char didn’t need to be stuck in the car for five hours just so that our dad could give me a final lecture on putting the work in for my future. Carefully balancing the boxes in one hand, I rummaged in my pocket for the scrap of paper that I had scrawled my dorm address on. Flattening it against my chest, I held it up to see that I would be living in Grey’s Hall, room 312. Shifting the weight of the boxes slightly, I headed toward the campus, glancing around for signs until I spotted one with ‘Grey’s’ and an arrow pointing left. Walking across the tarmac, I stepped up onto the walkway that was nestled between two perfectly manicured strips of grass. Glancing up, a smile stretched across my face as two scantily clad girls walked toward me, hips swaying. As they passed me, I greeted them, ‘hey ladies, want to help some fresh meat find his bed?’ I asked with a wink. The leggy blonde gave me an appraising look, her eyebrow arching as I smiled back at her, maybe MAU wasn’t going to be as terrible as I first believed. ‘What dorm are you in?’ she asked in a sultry voice that had me wanting to rearrange my pants. ‘Grey’s’ I replied, licking my lips, smirking as her gaze followed my tongue. ‘Back that way, to the right’ she finally informs me, indicating where they had just come from. ‘Well thank you’ I grinned, giving her my signature raise of the eyebrows that has never failed to get a girl in my bed before, ‘I’m new so if you want to be my friend, the room is 312’ I added before stepping aside to let them pass. Turning around to watch them walk away, I take pleasure in the exaggerated swagger they provide me with before shifting my box in my hands and heading toward my dorm. Climbing the stairs, I made my way along the bleak corridor, shouldering past other students who were milling around talking, until I reached my room. Kicking open the door, I stumbled inside, dropping my boxes on the empty bed to the right before taking in the other side that was already decked out with my roommate’s things. Basketball banners and posters of famous players were stuck to the wall, and the shelf above his bed had trophies lined up that told me I was rooming with a jock. At the front of the shelf, there was a framed photo of a tall, muscular male, roughly the same age as me standing in front of a huge tree, his arm slung around a petite redhead who beamed at the camera, her arms wrapped around his waist. ‘Great, not only a jock but also a long-term girlfriend kinda guy’ I muttered disgustedly as I started to go through my own stuff and place it on the shelves. Pulling out a photo frame, I grinned as I placed it right at the front, smiling over at me from behind the glass was my best friend Wade, his arm holding the waist of the short brunette that had become my second best friend last year and Wade’s girlfriend, Cassidy. I was standing on the other side of the pair, arm resting on Wade’s shoulder as we sandwiched Cass between us. We looked damn happy. My heart gave a little tug but I pushed it down quickly as I straightened the photo and turned to unpack my overflowing suitcase. As I placed the t’shirts that Yvonne had painstakingly ironed and folded for me into the drawer at the foot of my bed, my phone began to scream out my favourite heavy metal song of the moment. Abandoning the chore, I swiped across my phone to find my screen filled with the face of Wade Simmons. ‘Asshole! Have you arrived yet?’ he asked with a grin as he leaned back against the headboard of his bed. Wade wasn’t staying in dorms like everyone else. Oh no, though his father couldn’t talk him into going to a better college, he insisted that his son had his own little Batchelor pad. ‘Hey to you two d**k head’ I replied with a smirk, ‘yeah, just got here, was unpacking until you interrupted me.’ ‘Hey Dec’ came my second favourite voice of all time just before Cassidy’s face appeared next to Wade’s, my best friend immediately softening as he pulled her down next to him. Dammit, she has him totally whipped and he doesn’t even care. ‘Hey Cass, what are you doing there? Not moved in already have you?’ I asked as I sat down on the bed, ‘I’m still holding out hope that you come to your senses and realise I’m the better option as your baby daddy’ I added with a wink. ‘Oi, stop chatting up my woman’ Wade growled, ‘the only person putting babies in her is me.’ Cassidy blushed as she slapped him, ‘no-one is putting babies in me’ she shrieked, trying to bury her head into his shirt as I laughed. ‘It’s OK Cass, everyone knows it’s the quietest ones that are the wildest in bed’ I teased, ‘have you finally let my boy here get past second base?’ I added with a mock concerned look that had Cass covering her face with her hands while my best mate looks like he wants to murder me. ‘You are a d**k, I ring you to make sure you are OK, and you upset my girl’ Wade grumbles, ‘I should drive down there and kick your ass.’ I snorted with laughter, ‘please, you couldn’t kick my ass if you tried and anyway, there is no way that you would leave Cass and drive the eighteen hours to get here’ I added, my stomach churning at the stark reminder of just how far apart our colleges are. Wade shrugged as he pulled his girlfriend closer, ‘true, she’s much nicer to look at than your ugly ass’ he agreed before placing a kiss on her forehead. Making retching sounds, I waved at the pair ‘I’m going before your love fest corrupts me and I start thinking about relationships and sleeping with the same girl twice’ I groaned. The pair laugh as they wave back, before cutting the call and leaving me to my own thoughts. I hate to say it, but they were perfect for each other, complete opposites, but they complemented each other. Cassidy had worn down Wade’s rough edges and calmed his temper. He in turn had pulled her out of her shell, allowing her to be herself whilst he stood protectively behind her. I am pulled out of my thoughts by the door opening and the six foot frame of the guy in the photo stepping into the room grinning down at me as I stand up to greet him. ‘You must be Declan’ he said warmly, holding out his hand for me to shake, ‘I’m Daxton but everyone just calls me Dax.’ I nod, ‘good to meet you Dax, everyone tends to call me Dec’ I replied with a smile, ‘ seems two syllables are too much for people’ I added as he laughed. Shaking my hand firmly, he lets go and takes a seat across from me, ‘you settling in OK?’ he asks, glancing over at my half unpacked suitcase. I nod, ‘yeah, my best mate and his girl rang me while I was unpacking, so I had to answer, or Cass would be forcing him in the car to drive here and make sure I’m not dead’ I reply as I began to unpack again. Daxton nods as he leans back against the wall, ‘you must be tight with them’ he observes. ‘I’ve known Wade since we were kids, we’ve been tight for years, Cassidy joined our group last year and I became the friendship third wheel’ I offered back with a chuckle. ‘It doesn’t bother you?’ my roommate asks curiously. I shook my head as I stood up, ‘nah, she’s good for that d**k, plus when they do that whole marriage and kid thing, I get to be godfather.’ Daxton laughed, ‘by the sounds of it, settling down isn’t for you’ he observed. I shuddered at his words, ‘not a chance’ I grinned over my shoulder, ‘there is way too much fun to be had for me to settle down with one woman in this life time.’ He nodded in agreement, ‘true that my friend. Why have one girl when you can have them all?’ I blinked, straightening up as I turned to look at him in confusion, ‘I thought you had a girlfriend’ I blurted out. Daxton frowns at me in surprise, ‘no, why would you think that?’ he asks. I point toward his photo, swallowing as I realise it looked like I was snooping through his things, ‘I saw the photo of you and the red head’ I mumble. Daxton glances over at the photo, his face softening as he reaches up and takes it, ‘this is me and my twin sister’ he explains, a warm smile playing around his lips. ‘Twin?’ I repeat dumbly as my brain tries to slap me back into the present, ‘she doesn’t look anything like you.’ Daxton chuckles, ‘fraternal twins’ mate, she looks like our mum, and I got dad’s looks. She hates it, I got the tanned skin, dark hair and height and she got flame red hair, skin so white that it burns to a crisp if she ever steps out into the sunlight and freckles to boot.’ I nod, turning back to my unpacking, twin sister, I didn’t expect that.
