Chapter Seven
Nemesis POV
I glance Ares up and down, raising a questioning brow.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“I said hit me,” he clarifies, offering me a devilish smile.
“What? No! You’re the god of war!”
Ares looks at me intently. His well over six foot frame towers over me and his eyes pierce right through my soul.
“I am very well aware of what I am, Nemesis. Now please be aware that I am only on Olympus for you. I am taking time out of my otherwise busy life on earth to spend time training you. Not many people have that privilege. Now, I’ll say it again, and this is the last time. Hit me. Show me what you’ve got.”
“I’m just a weak mortal compared to you. How could you expect me to actually hit you?”
Without warning Ares is suddenly in front of me, and has his hand wrapped around my throat. My airways are constricted, and I know there will be a very unpleasant bruise on my neck.
“I am in no mood for bullshit. f*****g hit me or I will make you wish you would have.”
“Ares, that is enough.”
Ares releases me, and I whip around to see Zeus walking onto the training field.
I met all of the gods on Olympus briefly after waking up—except Athena and Hermes. The two are off in North America taking care of something, and apparently couldn’t be bothered to meet their daughter.
“Ares, the fates need to speak with you. Go. Now.”
Ares visibly perks up, suddenly excited.
“Where are they?”
“In the first temple. Go.”
Ares confidently marches off of the training field, leaving Zeus and I.
Zeus looks me up and down.
“None of the gods got the opportunity to spend time with you, which will change during training and free time.”
I bow my head slightly in respect, causing Zeus to chuckle.
“Child, we are equals. No need to bow.”
I make eye contact with him and nod. “Thank you.”
“I’m sorry about Ares’s behavior. He doesn’t have a mate, but desperately seeks one. Because of this, his hostile behavior has significantly increased towards everyone. I’ll reassign your combat training with Artemis, she is also a master.”
I nod in understanding.
“Meanwhile, there are two people who are dying to see you. Come with me.”
A wave of anticipation washes over me as I follow Zeus off of the training field. I know he means my parents. Athena and Hermes.
We stop in front of a somewhat lavish mansion.
“Go on in,” Zeus invites, but I freeze. My parents… the people who gave birth to me. The people who then abandoned me. The people who I feel love for in my heart, but can’t seem to understand because of their actions.
With a deep breath, I step inside of the house. I walk past the foyer a little ways, looking around.
I see two people sitting in the living room.
Mom and dad.
Hermes has almost a boyish look about him, whereas Athena has gorgeous wavy hair and piercing eyes. I stare at them, and they stare back.
“Mother? Father?”
