Chapter 1
Chapter 1 Lynn frowned as she plopped into the oversized chair and looked up at Alexis. “I can’t believe we’ve been trying for six months and I still haven’t been able to conceive!” After five unsuccessful attempts at an insemination, Lynn had grown discouraged. Doctor Rollins had advised her and Alexis that with a woman of Lynn’s age it could prove to be a lengthy and tedious process. Still, Lynn did not entirely believe the doctor. Actually, she’d dismissed the entire conversation. Now she was beginning to think pregnancy was not in the cards for her future. “Maybe I’m too old,” she complained. “Sweetheart,” Alexis sighed. She knelt in front of Lynn and grasped her fingertips. “I don’t want to hear you speak that way. Forty is not too old. It just takes a little time. You knew that going in,” Alexis reminded her. “Time? Lex, I don’t have time. I’ll be forty-one on my next birthday. My eggs are going to dry up and turn into dust at this rate.” Lynn rolled her head to one side, turning away from Alexis. Right now, she couldn’t even bring herself to face her wife. All the money in the world wasn’t enough to make her fertility peak and that alone was disheartening. Once again, she found herself feeling inadequate when compared to her wife. She couldn’t count the number of times she’d heard Alexis speak of how quickly she’d conceived Calista. Although Lynn hated herself for having such tactless thoughts, a part of her was jealous of her wife’s fertility. After all, the semen they’d been using for the inseminations was from the same donor Alexis used to conceive Calista. Just in case Alexis desired another child, she’d stored additional vials of semen in the cryogenic facility. Lynn paid to have it shipped in a nitrogen container to the fertility clinic she was now using. Maybe the excessive hormone shots and fertility treatments were slowly driving her completely insane, fueling these thoughts. “Lynn,” Alexis growled. “Stop it! Stop it right now!” Alexis slipped her hand underneath Lynn’s chin. Alexis’s nostrils flared when their eyes met, once she forced Lynn to look at her. “Now you listen to me. Either you stop feeling sorry for yourself or we can just quit trying all together.” “You don’t mean that,” Lynn huffed. Surely Alexis wasn’t serious? How could it even be feasible to forget trying when they’d discussed plans about having another child for months? Then there was also the matter of time and money already invested in fertility treatments. Lynn was appalled that Alexis would even have the audacity to suggest they stop trying. “Yes, I do mean that. Baby…” Alexis slid onto Lynn’s lap with a long sigh. “Don’t give me that look,” she said when a scowl appeared on Lynn’s face. “More than anything, I want to have a child with you. I know how much Calista wants a little brother or sister. I want one probably as much as she does. What I don’t want is to see you behave like this. This entire process is turning you into someone I barely know at times.” Lynn slipped both arms around Alexis’s waist, securely grasping her hips when she tugged her forward. When it came to admitting defeat, she could almost feel the bile rising in her throat. Still, Alexis was right. Lynn had changed over the past couple months and even she realized that indisputable fact. Becoming pregnant had turned into an obsession of sorts. Their activities together consisted of fertility treatments, doctor’s appointments, and ovulation tests. Knowing she was past her prime, Lynn had grown determined to get pregnant. For a woman who usually had no trouble getting what she wanted, this was becoming most taxing. “Lex,” she whined. “What if it never works? What if I can’t get pregnant? What if…?” She chewed her lower lip, quickly looking down at the floor when her voice trailed off. Too many what if’s continued to float around in her mind. “You knew it would not happen overnight when we started trying. Besides, honey, we have other options,” Alexis reminded her with a reassuring smile. “There’s always adoption. If you can’t get pregnant it doesn’t mean I will love you any less. Now, look at me. Where’s that beautiful smile of yours?” Alexis leaned forward, her fingertips gliding over Lynn’s flushed cheeks when she forced her wife, once again, to look at her. Lynn sighed. Why did Alexis always have to be right? When they had agreed to have another child, both of them were aware that the process could prove to be tiresome. Lynn had agreed to the process, knowing this, and it was a decision she did not regret. Despite her current uncertainties, there was no way she wanted to stop trying. Worrying excessively was not going to help matters, nor was it going to help her conceive any sooner. In fact, Doctor Rollins had already informed them that extreme stress could prolong the process. Lynn exhaled slowly; she had to start thinking positively, somehow. If it happened, it happened. She couldn’t wave a magic wand over her stomach to make the process happen any faster. Their next step was in vitro fertilization since the inseminations had failed several times. Lynn now had to undergo shots of Gonadotropin so that her ovaries would begin to produce multiple eggs. “I’m sorry. As usual,” she answered with a passive sigh. “You’re right.” Alexis arched one brow. A sly grin appeared on her lips when she leaned forward. “Of course I’m right.” She proceeded to plant a trail of wet kisses all the way down the bridge of Lynn’s freckled nose. “And you know what? You should be sorry. You’ve been acting like a complete brat!” Lynn snorted. “I cannot believe you just referred to me as a brat!” When it came to who was boss, Lynn realized she had finally met her match with Alexis. Since marrying Alexis, her once superior demeanor was slowly beginning to transform. “Hey, if the shoe fits,” Alexis teased. She grinned when a smile finally curved Lynn’s lips. “Ah! Now see there’s that smile I love so much. I knew you could do it!” Lynn tugged at Alexis’s waist until it was physically impossible to draw her body any nearer. “So, is that all you love about me?” “Mm,” Alexis murmured. “Why don’t I show you exactly what I love about you?” Lynn shivered when Alexis’s hand inched beneath her blouse. Her lips parted when soft fingertips danced along her stomach, caressing the sensitive area just above her navel. She giggled when Alexis skillfully used her teeth to unclasp each of the buttons. The treatments and inseminations had been excruciating; however, their s*x life was alive and well and it was long after the honeymoon phase. “You’re multi-talented.” “That’s because I learned from the best,” Alexis answered with a slow grin. She turned, straddling Lynn’s hips before leaning down to claim a kiss. Alexis pushed Lynn’s blouse open, bringing one hand to rest upon her velvety breast. Lynn’s hand slid to the back of Alexis’s neck, grasping the clip that held her mane in place. The silken strands toppled from confinement, softly brushing against Lynn’s cheeks when Alexis shifted on her lap. Lynn arched forward when Alexis’s warm lips performed an erotic dance along her throat. Alexis’s golden locks effortlessly glided along Lynn’s flesh, teasing her n*****s through the lightweight bra with a tantric sweeping motion. “Mommy,” Calista shouted when she bounded into the room. “Calista!” Lynn shrieked, jerking her blouse closed. “Sweetie,” Alexis gasped. She slid from Lynn’s lap, trying to compose herself when she stood. “What have we told you about knocking on the door before you enter the bedroom?” Her voice remained calm although her face told an entirely different story. Normally pale cheeks were flushed with a deep red that reminded Lynn of the she-devil costume Alexis owned. Calista rolled her eyes before looking up at Alexis with a smug grin. “You said to knock if the door was closed.” Calista gestured towards the door with one hand. “The door isn’t closed.” She giggled while glancing back and forth between Lynn and Alexis with curious eyes. “Mommy, your face is all red, so is yours, Momma.” Alexis shook her head. “What am I going to do with you, little girl?” She bent down and scooped Calista into her arms with a grunt. Calista had grown so big it was near impossible for her to hold her daughter up for even a brief period. In less than six months, Calista would be turning eight. Her strong willed nature had escalated over the past year and she’d become a regular smarty-pants. Alexis constantly accused Lynn of influencing Calista’s attitude. Calista wrapped both arms around Alexis’s neck and kissed her nose. “Well,” Calista said in a matter-of-fact tone. “You can buy me a puppy since you still haven’t given me a baby.” Lynn laughed as she snapped the final button on her blouse closed. “Come here, Cali.” Calista rushed towards Lynn the second Alexis placed her onto the floor. Soon Lynn had a wiggling child clamoring to climb into her lap. Lynn smiled once Calista settled on her lap. “Babies take a little time, honey. I promise you that your mommy and I are trying. For now you and I have both got to be patient.” “Well, I’m not patient!” Calista complained. She crossed both arms, jutting out her lower lip in a pout. “Neither am I,” Lynn admitted. “But,” she said with a dramatic sigh. “Your mommy wants us to be patient. Since both of us love Mommy do you think we can do that for her?” “I guess.” Calista frowned. “Molly’s mom is going to have a baby. She said her dad was the one who put it in there. Is Mommy going to put one in yours like that or are you putting one in hers?” Lynn’s eyes widened. She immediately looked to Alexis for help. As much as she adored Calista, she still found it difficult to answer some of her more complex questions. When the questions concerned s*x or babies, she felt Alexis was better at explaining things. Lynn was terrified she would blurt out something that was not appropriate for tender ears. Alexis laughed when she knelt in front of Calista and touched her hand. “Not exactly, sweetie. You see your momma has to go the doctor to have a baby put in her belly.” “So the doctor is going to be the daddy?” “No.” Alexis sighed. She looked back to Lynn, her eyes pleading for a little assistance on the subject. Oh, how Lynn hated it when Alexis flashed the puppy dog eyes at her. Like mother, like daughter, both of her girls knew exactly how to get what they wanted. Those pleading blue eyes proved to be her weakness every single time. Why had she been born with such a softness for those striking eyes? “The doctor is…he’s only…” Wrinkles puckered across Lynn’s forehead when she tried to find a more delicate way to explain the procedure. Considering Calista’s age, she couldn’t very well go into the nitty-gritty details of the process. That would bring on even more questions. Not to mention it would likely make Alexis faint. “Do you remember how your mom and I explained to you that there are all kinds of different families?” “Uh huh,” Calista enthusiastically nodded. “You said sometimes kids have two mommies like I do or two daddies instead of a mommy and a daddy. But that still doesn’t explain how they get babies.” “When you have two mommies,” Lynn said as she securely held an inquisitive Calista on her lap. “They have to get…some help so that they can have a baby together.” Alexis rubbed her thumb over Calista’s cheek. “You see the doctor has to put the baby inside your momma with a special…tool. After he does that it takes the baby nine months to grow.” Lynn cringed at Alexis’s choice of words. The use of tool made her mind go in directions she truly wished it had not. A sudden image of the doctor, ‘tool’ in hand, popped into her head. She shook her head, forcing her thoughts to focus on the discussion with Calista. “Without the doctor then I wouldn’t be able to have a baby with your mommy.” “Oh! So that’s how lesbians get babies.” Calista tilted her head, as if to consider the answer carefully. She opened her mouth, looking like she was about to ask another question, but she closed it just as quickly. “Okay,” she said after a few moments, seemingly satisfied with the answer. Both Alexis and Lynn breathed a sigh of relief. Going into additional details would have been that much more complicated. “Say,” Alexis said as she tickled Calista’s sides. “Why don’t we all go out for pizza?” “Pizza,” Calista squealed. “I’m ready!” She bounced off Lynn’s lap and darted out the bedroom door. “A special tool,” Lynn said with a wrinkle of her nose. “Lex, that sounded wrong on soooo many levels. You do realize that, don’t you?” Alexis laughed at the horror-struck look on Lynn’s face. “What was I supposed to say? I couldn’t very well tell her the doctor implants sperm in your eggs and then puts them back into your uterus. Come on, Lynn. Imagine trying to explain that one to her.” She placed a kiss on Lynn’s lips before grabbing her jacket. “Well, it wouldn’t have been much worse than saying the doctor used a special tool.” Lynn stalked over to the closet and pulled out a black leather bomber jacket in a huff. “All I can say is that doctor better keep his own special tool where it belongs! If it comes anywhere near my coochie he’s going to get a broken nose.” “You’re terrible.” Alexis slapped Lynn’s butt with her palm while rolling her eyes in amusement. “Come on before I make you think, special tool.” Her palm rubbed over Lynn’s rounded backside. “Oh, do you have a special tool too, darling?” Lynn purred as she rubbed her head against Alexis’s arm. She batted her eyes seductively before plastering on her most innocent grin. The playful banter was a common occurrence between the two. It was sometimes hard to even tell when they were being serious or when they were simply joking. Katie recently made the comment the two acted like teenagers. Sometimes, that was probably true. “Well,” Alexis teased. “I did buy something special yesterday.” Her eyes twinkled when she turned to face Lynn. “If you want to see it later tonight I suggest you behave.” “You’re such a tease,” Lynn hissed. “Oh, but I love a good tease.” Her knee slipped between Alexis’s thighs, intimately pressing between her legs through the jeans. “And baby, when it comes to you, it’s impossible to behave.” Alexis trailed her finger down the center of Lynn’s chest. “Then I guess when we get home I’ll have to show you what happens to naughty girls.” She tugged Lynn’s hand, not giving her a chance for a comeback as they stepped into the hallway.
