The man who’s standing in front of me is a childhood friend of mine whom I’ve not seen in two years, Brion Ramos. He offers me a warm smile which disappears the moment his eyes lay on my dirty wet feet. “Can you wait here, I’ll be quick,” he says, putting his umbrella on my hand even though the rain has significantly subsides before rushing inside the convenience store. I don’t have any idea what he’s buying but he keeps glancing at me every chance he gets. It only takes him a couple of minutes before stepping out of the store.
