Misunderstandings are often the reason for causing a rift in an otherwise perfect relationship and that was the case between Anya and John. Only no one knew what caused that misunderstanding.
While Anya did not ask for an explanation when it happened, John was not aware that his words hurt her, though he was not aware. For John to clear it he needed to know what the misunderstanding was and for that to happen Anya had to tell him what happened.
