Chapter Thirteen

1280 Words
“Wait. Wait. You told Victoria about kissing Monica?” I had dragged Gabriel away from prying ears and eyes after twenty minutes of insufferable mingling and dancing. Gabriel made a show of being all over me, of course. We were in a hallway now, and I begrudgingly nodded at his questioning. “And why didn’t you tell me sooner?” “I didn’t want you to-“ “To what?” His eyes narrowed, showing annoyance. I felt like they judged me, looking me up and down with… scrutiny. “To get upset. I didn't think it was a big deal, and I kind of forgot.” I looked away, frowning. I understood how it could conflict our ruse. I heard him sigh, before his hands hesitantly grasped my shoulder. My eyes widened at the soft-hearted affection in his eyes as I looked at him. “I'm not upset.” He grumbled almost as if to himself, struggling to find the words. “I… I'm just worried.” His jaw clenched, and I suddenly felt my chest constrict uncomfortably. “But what about Victoria? I mean, I know you said you two aren’t super close but… will she ruin this for us?” “No. I don’t think she would-“ “Then why would she say that at all?” “I don’t know.” I sighed, feeling somewhat defeated. War and chaos because of my own playfulness. “Hey…” Gabe grasped my cheeks, making me look at him again. His eyes held everything I needed, if only he could say it. “It’s going to be okay.” “We’re pretending to be in love, werewolves are asking for my head…” I shook my head, a sarcastic smile on my face, “I’m sure it’ll all be fine.” “I’ve faced worse than this.” I raised an eyebrow, “Oh yeah? Like what?” He went to talk, then closed his mouth. He hummed in thought, and I felt smug. “Uh huh. That’s what I thought.” “Still. I’m not gonna let anything happen to you.” Gabe’s eyes brightened with determination as he spoke. I wanted to trust him, to believe him. But too much false hope was bad for the soul. I nodded with half a smile, “I can recognize that look in your eye.” “My eyes have a look?” He frowned, almost offended as if it was a bad thing. “Well yeah. It’s your stubborn look.” I laughed, “It’s kind of cute.” “Oh please. I am not cute. I am sexy.” “You wish.” I rolled my eyes, “Anyways, ready to go back to the party?” Gabe shrugged, “I mean, we kind of have to.” “Well, I was honestly tired of all of it already. I know your dad is just trying to help but-“ He leaned in unexpectedly, kissing the corner of mouth and cheek. I stiffened. His mouth was soft, and his hands slightly tightened as they held my back softly. I pulled away from him with a frown, “Gabe-?” He looked away, feigning shock. “Oh, hey Reyna. Didn’t see you there…” I turned, seeing her there with an awkward expression. “Sure. Anyways, your dad is calling for the both of you.” “Tell him we’ll be right there.” “It was nice seeing you Reyna.” I smiled, feigning embarrassment about her catching us 'kissing'. “I guess.” She shrugged, frowning at me. I slightly huffed as she walked away. Gabe noticed, chuckling, “What’s wrong? Can’t stand that she doesn’t like you?” She disappeared into the elevator. “A little bit. I’m also kind of nervous about the fact that every girl hates me now.” “Well, what can you do? I am the most beloved bachelor here… and you’re the one who got us into this mess.” I clenched my jaw at his tone and choice of words as his hand landed on my shoulder, and I pulled away hastily, “Whatever." He stayed silent the whole ride back to the party, and so did I. I was obviously annoyed now. His arm secured itself back at the curve of my waist as the doors opened. I felt so lonely. Even as I talked to random people, especially knowing they didn’t really like me, and being the odd one out while everyone talked to Gabe was so… I couldn’t stand it. Nobody even noticed me anyways. I don’t even know how much I drank… I glanced over, not seeing Gabriel anywhere. I wandered up to his floor. I was tired, and I needed a place to crash. Plus, we were engaged so… That’s when I heard it. A woman’s moans… “Oh god, oh Gabe… yes Gabe!” I growled, opening the door in a hurry to see a woman moaning while Gabe’s face was between her legs. He looked back, shocked. “Kim… I-“ “Save it for someone who cares.” I turned away, disgusted. I knew he couldn't stay celibate even if he tried. I just hoped that girl he had in bed wasn't a blabbermouth. I left the building completely to nobody’s notice, champagne in my system more than I could handle as I walked the streets to my home alone. And for a vampire, it was a lot of champagne if it had me drunk. It was dark, and a little chilly, but I didn’t mind. Why would I? I was immortal. Time passed by in one blink, it seemed like. I was home, taking off my heels with a grunt. Then I was asleep on the couch, passed out completely when a loud knock awoke me. “I’m.. I’m going! I’m going- don’t- don’t knock anymore.” I stumbled off the couch with a small shriek, and stumbled my way to stand to answer the door. I c****d my head as I opened it, my eyes squinting through my sleepiness. Monica stood there, a guilty and cute expression on her face. “Kim… can I come in?” I raised a brow, "How do you know where I live? And why are you here?” “I… well I’m here to apologize.” I leaned against the doorway, groaning as a large headache decided to persist against my skull. I had been meaning to talk to her, but with me having have left school early and constantly hanging out with Gabe... I never even made it to one cheerleading practice yet. “I mean… I guess. Just come in.” “Are you…” She walked in, raising a brow in confusion. “Are you drunk?” I scowled. "A little. Why do you care?” “Because I’m here to tell you… I’m sorry, and I want to try again.” I huffed, closing the door and leaning against it as I struggled to look at her. “Try what?” I noticed her clothes, her sweater and leggings… her curly hair that framed her face. Her cute lips… she was leaning in? Why? “I want to try and be with you… as long as no one knows.” I frowned at first, but reasoned to myself… if Gabe is free to do who he pleases, why shouldn’t I? I didn't respond as I leaned in as well, kissing her soft and plump lips deeply. I pressed her against my bed, both of us collapsing onto it as we kissed roughly and pressed our bodies together.
