Chapter Nineteen

"My wife is asking for you to be examined." Benjamin chuckled sarcastically, "Apparently, your gift is magic?" “I… She did some spell on me. I don’t even know how to use my gift, to be honest.” I scoffed, and Benjamin raised a brow. “Nico is a vampire who can use magic too- Why does it matter if I can too?” “And you attacked a member of our coven?” He spoke with annoyance now, changing the topic. “She was being a bitch.” I retorted, and Benjamin looked at Gabriel. “Control her. You brought her here, and she’s your responsibility.” Benjamin glared at his son. “Excuse me? He doesn’t control me. No man gets to control me-” I was shouting now. How could he just say that? “Shut it.” Gabriel stated, and I was surprised to find myself complying. Why was I complying? “Thank you, Gabriel.” Benjamin said, and I frowned as my hand went to my throat. How could I just not speak? “Now, keep her in check. Go with her to school, do what you must. But make sure she doesn’t get into trouble.” Gabriel nodded, grasping my elbow and taking me into the elevator again. I glared at him as the elevator doors closed, and Gabriel sighed. “Sorry about that. You can speak now.” “What the f**k, Gabe? What was that?” I had been holding that in with annoyance. My voice was deadly. “My gift- It’s mind control.” Gabriel explained, his face showing remorse, “I’m sorry about that, but it was the only way to stop my dad’s lecture from being longer.” “Sure it was.” I sarcastically retorted, annoyed with everything. “Anyways, now that I’m basically on the outs with Nico… I need your help with something.” “And what is that, miss ‘I’m so righteous’?” I rolled my eyes as I hit the button for the library’s floor when the elevator opened on his floor. “I need you to help me kill my dad.” “Wait, what?” Gabriel scoffed, almost not believing what I had just said. “Your dad?” I ignored him as I exited the elevator for the library’s floor, and went towards the library. Gabriel groaned, “Hey. Wait up.” I entered the library, looking for the books of Royal Vampire Lineage. “There’s only three of these royal lineages you have, right?” I took them out when speeding to the bookcase it was in, searching through a book that was named ‘The Prudence Lineage’. I handed the other to Gabriel as he approached, “Look for my name. Look for my dad’s name- it's Theodore.” “I don’t see anyone in the past fifty years even resembling that name.” He scoffed to himself, “Why do you want to kill your dad, anyways?” “‘Cause he’s an abusive asshole who has never stopped looking for me when I ran away. Now look for his name.” I snapped, and Gabriel tensed before I heard him swallow as we continued. “Look farther behind a couple years, maybe?” “There’s two missing books, remember?” I looked up in alarm, “And where are those?” “Why does it matter?” “Because I have to know who he is- who I am. Regardless of whether I kill him.” I huffed, running a hand through my hair with annoyance. “Now where is the last known location of those other books?” “One is in my old hometown. And the other is in some old church in town-” “Great. Let’s go-” I started to walk past him when he stopped me, grasping my shoulders. “Hey. Relax. You’ve had a long day and you should take a breather.” “I don’t want to take a breather, Gabe. I wanna-” “I get it. I understand, but I think you should slow down. Don’t you have school tomorrow?” “Well yeah but-” “I’ll go with you. Get back to regular life while we figure all of this out, okay? Do you even know if you have homework?” I sighed as Gabriel guided me to the elevator again. “Seriously, Gabriel? You’re gonna help me do homework?” I scoffed, annoyed with him. “I can’t believe you’re doing this.” “Kim. I know how hard life can be, I know you want to just live life freely from your dad, but you also need to rest. You’re being too hard on yourself.” I could feel my exhaustion take over as his hands went to my shoulders, and leaned in. “You can stay in my penthouse tonight while I go take care of some stuff, okay?” “What are you going to do?” I frowned as the elevator opened to his living room. He smiled as I walked in, and raised brow at him. He placed his hands into his joggers, shrugging, “I’ll be back in a couple hours.. Trust me.” “Only if you don’t sleep with anyone this time.” I retorted, and he laughed as the doors closed. I sighed, falling back onto the couch and getting comfortable. Before I knew it, I was asleep. - “What the hell did you do to her?” Gabriel’s voice surprised Nico from behind as he strolled down the street. Nico sighed, continuing to walk after stopping for a second. “I didn’t do anything.” “But you let it happen, didn’t you?” “Why does it matter?” Nico stopped, looking at Gabriel with a raised brow. “We barely know her anyways.” “She’s going to be my wife-” Gabriel started, only to be interrupted by a scream nearby. Gabriel looked at Nico, and they immediately ran after the origin of the sound. It came from a nearby alley. Gabriel and Nico stopped as they saw a shadowy figure on top of another one. Gabriel sped forward, pushing the one on top off of the other. The minute the shadowy figure got up, he started climbing up the building, digging his hands into the bricks and making it crack- even break. Gabriel followed the figure as Nico rushed to the person on the floor, and saw it was a young girl from his school- a human named Marzia. She breathed shallowly, whimpering in pain as she bled out from her neck. Nico couldn’t believe it- she was going to die. She groaned out, “Ugh. It hurts-” “Shh. It’ll be okay, reserve your energy.” Nico pressed his palm against the wound, applying pressure. Gabriel was just on his tail when the figure suddenly jumped off a nearby building and landed into a nearby crowd of people exiting a bar. The royal Vampyr scoffed, cursing under his breath. The older brother raced to his younger one, and Nico sat beside a limp body. Gabriel scoffed, “I lost them.” Nico shakily exhaled, “She’s dead. She’s gone- that person killed her.” “It wasn’t just a person.” Gabriel crouched next to the body, moving the head to see the wound better. “That was a rogue Vampyr.” “We have to tell dad.” Nico stood, his legs slightly shaking while he did so. “We have to-” “I know, Nico. Trust me, I know. But I don’t get it- Why would they make it so we can hear them scream?” “Maybe they didn’t care.” Nico shrugged, and Gabriel sighed. “Maybe. We gotta go to dad’s office now.” Gabriel turned, and Nico followed. - I stirred as something vibrated nearby. I grabbed my phone, squinting to see the message. What was… Monica? ‘Hey, Kim. Can we talk? can I take you out?’ I frowned, wondering if I should. I messaged her back, that we can hang out but only as friends. I sat up, leaving my phone on the couch as I saw the elevator lighting up. Was Gabriel back so early? It had only been half an hour. I scratched the back of my head, still sleepy. As soon as the elevator doors pinged open, I saw a determined Mrs. Romaro standing there with a clenched jaw. I stood, about to spring into action when she held out her hand immediately. My neck swerved to the side, and I was immediately thrown into darkness. Jewels walked over, looming over my dead body with a raised brow. “I don’t care what my husband says. You’re a danger that needs to be examined.”
