Chapter 44: I'll Protect You My Angel

I had Rani in my arms, lying on my chest. I hoping the feeling of the rhythm of my heart beat would help her feel relax. I think it's working cause she's seemed calm. I was stroking her hair to comfort her. Her dark, brown hair is so soft that I could stroke all day.
This feels right having Rani in my arms. She fitted perfectly. Our bodies as one. I wonder if she's dreaming, if so then what is she dreaming about. I had a crazy thought. I have a gift that nobody knows, not even my wife and daughter knows about it. I could go into people's mind and see what they are thinking and dreaming of, but there's a limit to it though. It only works when the person is asleep. So with a crazy thought, I touched her forehead and looked into her mind.
In Rani's dream, she was in the woods and sitting by the lake, her feet in the water, swirling around gently and her back was facing me. She was reading. Whatever she was reading made her smile. It was a small and warm smile. She looked so beautiful when she smile. Rani was wearing a white dress that had red butterflies on it.
I walked up to slowly so I won't startled her and I tap her shoulder gently. She froze for a second, then she turned around slowly and faced me. She was surprised to see me. I don't blame her; I'll be surprised myself if someone creep up to me.
"Alpha Johnson, what are you doing here?" Rani asked shocked.
"To check up on you, of course" I said sincerely. Laughing at her reaction.
"No, I mean how did you get here? In this place?" She asked confused.
"I went into your mind" I said honestly. She won't remember any of this anyway. Rani looked mind blown.
"How did you do that?" Staring at me wide eyed. I just chuckled. She's too adorable.
"That's me to know and you to find out" I winked at her.
"Umm Ok" her face turned a light shade of pink. Looking shy all of a sudden.
"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" I asked softly .
"I'm ok, thanks for asking " she said respectfully. Giving me a warm smile.
"Do you remember what happened to you?" I asked. Watching her closely. Rani tap her finger on her chin, deep in thought.
"I remember it was pouring down with rain and I was chasing after Raiden" my little angel started. I nodded at her. Encouraging her to continue.
"Then I remember that Raiden collapsed and I had to carry her" she continued. I waited patiently fir her to finish. Rani was thinking hard now and then her eyes went wide all of a sudden.
"There was a troll chasing me. It attacked me" she gasped. Her lips trembling and her eyes started to water. I pulled her to my chest and wrap my arms around her.
"Hey hey, it's ok. You're safe now" I cooed. Rubbing her back comforting. She hiccupped and her tears on my shirt. It took her a few minutes to calm down. Once Rani calmed down, she looked up to me. Her eyes all red from crying.
"Sorry about that. I'm not normally this emotional " she said apologetic. I whipped the tears from her face and cupped her face. Stroking her cheek with my thumb. She was shocked by that.
"There's no need to apologise. It's Understandable to be upset. I know it is a lot for you but I promise you that I'll be always be there when you need a shoulder to cry on" I assured her.
"Thank you alpha Johnson. That is sweet of you to say " Rani said softly. Almost like a whisper.
"There's no need to thank me, Rani and I promise you that I'll protect you. You have my word" meaning every word. I would risk my life for her. She seemed speechless.
"Umm ok" getting all embarrassed. Too cute.
"I got to go now" I said remorsefully. Rani nodded with understanding.
"Do me one favour before I go" I asked.
"Ok. What is it?" She said sweetly.
"You need to wake up. A certain person is eager to see you wake up" I said with a teasing tone.
"Who?" She asked. Looking confused.
"Prince Rudra of course. Who else?" I said smoothly. Her mouth made a 'O' shape. I kissed her forehead and left her mind before she could respond.
Once I woke up. I saw that Rani was stiring; she was starting to wake up. I remove my flames and gently move her head from my chest, and rest it on to her pillow. I quickly but gently got out of bed and fix her blanket. I should mindlink prince Rudra. Rani properly want to see him first when she wakes up, even though I wanted her to see me first when she wakes up.
"Prince Rudra" I said. He responded straight away.
"What's wrong? Is Rani ok?" He asked panicking.
"She's fine. I think she's waking up. I thought you ought to know " I reply respectfully. Even though I didn't want him to know.
"Thanks the goddess. I'll be there in a second" he said relief. And literally a second later he was here. Flames was swirling around him then it died down. Well I'll be damned, he literally ment a minutes. He went straight to Rani's side and hold her hand. He was stroking her forehead with his thumb.
"Rani, my love, can you here me?" Prince Rudra asked softly. Rani open her eyes slowly and groaned. She turned her head and saw prince Rudra.
"Rudra, is that you?" She whispered.
"Yes, my love, it's me. How are you feeling?" He asked, concern in his voice.
"Sore all over. What happened, swamp beast?" She hoarsed out. She was trying to sit up. Prince Rudra helped her up.
"You were attacked by a troll but lucky me and alpha Johnson made it in a nick of time" Prince Rudra said delicately.
"I'm so sorry I didn't come to you in time. I would never live with myself if you left me from this world" Prince Rudra said regrettably.
"It's ok, darling, I'm ok now because of you and alpha Johnson. I'm alive becauseof you guys" she cooed. she was stroking his cheek with one hand and squeezing his hand with the other. Rudra hold her hand with both of his. I signed, wishing it was me who's holding her hand. Then Rani went wide eyed to the realisation.
"I remembered now. The troll was going to kill me and that b***h Raiden ran off like a coward and left me to die" she growled, then she looked at me.
"No offence alpha Johnson" she added quickly.
"Non taken, my dear. I'll deal with Raiden, personally. What she did was unforgivable" I said dismissively and reassuring. Rudra glared at me. I'm guessing he doesn't like calling her dear. He is very possessive when it comes to Rani. Rani gave me a small smile.
"I hope she suffer for what she did" Rani said under her breath, with a hint venom in her voice. To be honest, I don't blame her. I'm ashamed of my daughter for leaving my angel on her own with that filthy troll.
"She will be punished, my pretty little demon. I'll make sure of it" he promised her and kissed her forehead.
"I'll head off now and give you guys some privacy. Rest well Rani" I said politely and bowing respectfully to them. They both nod in in knowledgement. However, as I was headed to the door, I looked back and saw that Rudra was hugging Rani but as he was hugging her, Rani looked backed at me. She looked at me like she was searching something, like a missing puzzle piece. I gave her a short nod and a wink which she just blinked at me with a stun look on her face. I left the room after that. Don't worry my perfect little angel, I'll protect no matter what. I promised myself. I'll make sure she knows it.
