Every container had a purpose. The ones in the back facing the pastures were used as barns for the herds. Some were built into apartments, others were for storing food and suppliesWe knew that going to the grocery stores would be out of the question. We also needed to secure all our animals in case of rustlers. When chaos reins, the worst comes out in people.
Our phones are still getting signals. They have been ringing off the hook. The people that are in Dads field of responsibility, like family members, have all been informed of what they need to do. Dad has told each and everyone that he will never accept people empty-handed. He has been trying so hard to get everyone on board with prepping. Even just a few months of supplies to weather the storms in life.
Most of the family members have been part of the homestead since dad bought the property. They helped build or buy things that would benefit the property. But there are always the ones that feel they deserve what you have because you are family.
We are also part of an organization of preppers. This was created so people within the organization can barter with other preppers or have a safe stopping point on their way to their homestead. In a world gone crazy with war, trust does not come easily.
4 hours after the attacks started, the family started arriving. Each family has a designated container that the family bought and decorated to their specifications. The main house was Dad and Mom's. My brothers and I usually stayed in the main house but also had a container apartment for when or if we decided to marry and have kids. Dad said it was for privacy. Every family needed to form their own bonds.
My Aunt Matilda and her family showed up along with people not related to us, and my dad was getting annoyed by her attitude. He met them at the gate without opening it to them. Aunt Matilda look confused on why dad wouldn't allow them in.
"What the hell are you doing?" dad questioned his younger sister. "Who the hell are all these people?"
"Brian, you know Chris and the kids. Those are all our neighbors and friends." She gave him a sheepish smile. "You're always going on about saving everyone, so we brought all our loved ones."
"WHAT? I specifically told you and Chris the invitation was for you and your family. You then told me I was out of my f*****g mind when i told you about the container apartments. That there was no way in hell you would ever condescend into living in a box." He shook his head. "where are your supplies? Where are their supplies. what are you going to eat? how are you going to eat?"
"Brian she is your sister and we kind of panicked and just loaded people into cars."
Chris said with a twisted smile. "We thought that we could stay in the main house and you could move into..."
"Go Home! GO THE f**k HOME!!! dad screamed at the group.
"Brian I'm your sister these are you nieces and nephews you have to take us in" Matilda said with tears streaking down her face.
"No I don't, I have given you a chance multiple times to be a part of this. You chose not to. I don't know these people and they are not welcome." just then you could hear a gun c**k, then multiple guns c****d simultaneously. "Did you just c**k a gun and point it at me?"
"We were promised sanctuary and you are turning us away, if we have to we will take it by force." some Stanger said
"Bill I got this, put that away." Chris said
"f**k that, he said to go home. Chris you f*****g promised a safe haven. what the f**k man." Bill said
Just then a fire shot out and everyone hit the ground. Dad ran to the gate and was through before anyone realized what was happening. Uncle Thomas was shutting the gate as people started running towards it. To no avail, because it was shut tight. Aunt Matilda was screaming "open the f*****g gate and let us in" but was met with complete silence.
A sobbing voice was heard from inside. "Baby go home and prepare. How could you put us in this position"
"MOM, MOM OPEN THE GATE." Matilda screamed again. "How can you do this to me and your grandkids." Matilda is standing at the closure trying to pry it open.
"I didn't do anything to you or the kids." sniffles and sobs could be heard from the inside "I haven't even seen you in 7 years, you said I embarrassed you and Chris and to stop visiting. So I have. Stop making a scene and go home you are embarrassing yourself."
"You b***h, how dare you. You can't stand the fact I won and married a good man. You can't stand your own failures in life so you have to punish me. How dare you people look down on me and mine. I will own this f*****g place in the end."
"Matilda I would like to see you try, you see I own every inch of this property outright. I have paid the taxes on it for the next 20 years. Besides that, you will have to get in first." Brian said as he consoles his mother, holding her close to his heart, he whispered,"You never did this. You didn't create that. She is bitter and angry because you were always right. He wasn't the best partner for her. He is just as selfish as she is. I caught them arguing in town last June, there was another young lady standing next to him. She refuses to disclose all the details but I heard him say "she isn't a replacement, she's just a toy I play with" I thought Matilda was going to blow a gasket."
"Brian baby, I'm so proud of what you have become and done for the family. You have always dreamed big you never let anyone hold you down or tell you it was impossible. You have kept your family together. Showing support and understanding working with your wife and children you are building a legacy. I wish I had been able to give you and your siblings more of my time."
Mary my grandmother continued crying holding onto my dad.
David my youngest brother ran up to dad and gran, " are you ok dad?"
"Yes, I'm fine gran is upset but understands. Who fired the shot?" dad asked
"Uncle Jason did, he said another guy in the black SUV got out with a c****d gun and was lowering it to aim at you. It was just like when we practiced. They all hit the ground so fast." He walked up and put his arms around both dad and gran. "that was amazing you moved so fast."
"I know sometimes it seemed pointless but all the training was for a purpose. Your uncle Frank is on his way with the guys. Go ask mom if everything is ready for them." dad just smiled sadly and escorted gran to the house for some rest.
