Killing the Kadys
*Third person POV*
The Kady family was an ordinary American family. They lived up to their name sake, simple and happy. They were not well off or destitute, just a happy medium that suited them just fine.
When their little girl came along, she only brought more joy and happiness into their lives. They were complete, happy and content. The Kady family attended a wedding of a family friend, taking along their pride and joy. She danced and played with the other children, always the social butterfly. Everyone awed at her natural blonde curly hair and big blue eyes that no one could say no to.
Eventually she became tired, curling up on her daddy's lap and letting her heavy eye lids fall closed. The Kadys excused themselves and returned to their hotel room to let their princess rest. Of course once she was back in their room, her eyes were open and alert, demanding a bedtime story. Her mother laughed and curled up next to her in bed, ready to appease her little angel.
As she read, there was a knock at the door, her husband offering to open it in her place. She smiled, and continued to read until there was a loud bang and then a thud. Her husband lay on the floor, a hole in his head and blood seeping into the carpet. His eyes were no longer their lively self and his chest was still.
Bang! The little girl could no longer help but be scared, the sound was loud and scary and it made her jump. Her eyes misted over as she looked at her father, unmoving on the floor. When she looked to her mother, he body was slumped in a strange position and the bed was turning wet and red. Her little plump red bottom lip trembled uncontrollably and with every blink, the tears fell from her eyes down her rosy cheeks.
Don Lorenzo Polozzi stepped in to the room, ignoring the body that now lay at his feet. He had been captivated all night by an angel running around, her blonde curls bouncing as she danced and played. Lorenzo had been deadly bored at his distant relatives wedding, wishing instead he had stayed at home playing with one of his pets. But then, she came in the room. He could tell by her perfect features that she would grow up to be beautiful. Not that she wasn't already, but this was in a different way.
The darkness within him stirred to life as he watched her all night, the darkness spreading and taking over him. He could not let such a creature exist and she not be his. He could not live with knowing that she was out their, flashing that heart stopping smile to anyone and everyone. No. He could not allow that.
He watched her go back to her parents, they were pathetic. The two looked weak and incapable of protecting such a precious vulnerable creature. That is when he decided he would take her off their hands.
Lorenzo knew he couldn't keep her and raise her. He didn't have a fatherly bone in his body, and even if he did, he was sure that he would give into his temptation to make her his sooner rather than later. Hurting little kids was where he drew the line, so he knew he had to get her away somewhere for safe keeping.
As Lorenzo took in the small vulnerable creature, sat in a pool of her mother's blood, he could not look away. Those eyes, large and doe like, crystal blue. They stared at him, through him and into his black and decrepit soul. Her lip trembled uncontrollably, making his breath hitch. She was perfect. Gorgeous, vulnerable, open. But he couldn't. Instead he tried to soother her. "It's okay little girl." he said in his usually baritone voice that seemed to scare her even more. "I know exactly what to do with you."
He walked out of the room, leaving his men to take care of the scene left behind. He did not care that the blood that had soaked into the girls pretty dress was now soaking through his thousand dollar suit jacket. He didn't care that the girl was still crying uncontrollably in his arms, wiping tears and snot on his lapel. All he cared about was her, and that was dangerous. Lorenzo prided himself in having no weaknesses, but he knew right then that she was a weakness to him. Even with her eyes puffy and red, her cheeks splotchy, she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He had to lock her away.
He racked his mind, thinking of a place that would keep her safe, not just from the world but him himself. And that is when it hit him. The Dolofonos orphanage, there she would be safe. There, they would make her strong. He signalled to his driver and they set off to their destination.
Lorenzo had used the Dolofonos orphanage many times. They were not your usual orphanage. They trained the children there to become the best assassins in the world. They were loyal and lethal, and for the right donation, one of them would serve you until their dying breath. Unfortunately, in Lorenzo's line of work, that tended to happen sooner rather than later. The money he paid for them though was like a drop in the ocean for Lorenzo, so he could easily buy another. You may think that he was cold and heartless for not caring that they died, but he was a man surrounded by death all the time, everyday. It did not fays him one bit.
As they drove, Lorenzo could not help but stroke the little girls back, soothing her, whispering to her. Her strong hold on his shirt never faltered, as her face remained now hidden against his chest. He started to think about keeping her, raising her as his own. He had plenty of room, and plenty of money to buy the best of everything for her, the best clothes, the best tutors, she would want for nothing. But then an image of her running and playing around the dance floor came to his mind and he knew he had to get rid of her.
They pulled up outside the old stone building with its black metal gates that opened as he exited the car, still with the little girl clutching his chest. She may be small but she had a vice like grip that made Lorenzo smile. Madam and Sir came to the gates greeting him with their usual respectful nod. "Are you in need of another of our recruits so soon?" Sir asked.
"I am actually here to drop one off this time." he said as he headed to Madam. He tried to hand the girl over but she was wrapped rightly around him like a boa constrictor. "Let go!" he yelled in his menacing tone. The little girl immediately let her hands loosen and went willingly to Madam.
Madam looked at the girl, she was beautiful, that would work for her. But she seemed clingy and needy, they would have to beat that out of her straight away. "Very well Don Polozzi." she nodded and turned.
As Madam tried to walk away with the child she was stopped by a strong hand wrapping around her arm. She turned, giving Lorenzo a confused look. "No one takes her but me. Understand?" Madam's face scrunched up at that. With the right training this girl could be worth a small fortune. "I will pay double whatever you would charge anyone else." he growled, knowing that that was all the witch cared about.
Madam's face softened and she nodded, heading away with the girl. She peeked up over Madam's shoulder, taking one last look at the big scary man. He was the biggest man she had ever seen. He was scary, especially when he shouted, but he had a picture of a snake on his neck. She had stared at it all the way to the orphanage, having a fascination with snakes, she had wanted to reach out and touch it, but was too afraid.
She was tired and it was well past her bedtime now. "Where were mummy and daddy? Why had the scary man took me away from them?" she thought to herself. She knew that they were hurt. Her mother always told her that when you get a cut, it needs to be kissed better. But she had not had the chance to kiss their cuts better.
The scary lady took her to a large bathroom with showers running along one side. Madam pushed the button and held the girl under the cold stream of water. The girl struggled to try and get out of the cold, she didn't like it, but she couldn't. Instead she stared at the water, circling around the drain. It was red, just like her dress was at the bottom.
"Come on now girl." Madam shouted, pulling the girl from her head. "You will be known as K from now on." the girl didn't want to be K, she wanted to be herself. She didn't like the scary lady, not one bit.
As she began to cry again, tiredness and confusion wrecking her body, Madam turned her around and smacked her on her behind, hard. The girl stopped crying, shocked at what had happen. Her mother never spanked her. She was a good girl. She hardly even got shouted at at home. "You will have to learn to grow up fast K or learn how to live with a very sore behind." the girl wanted to cry again, but didn't. "This is where you will live from now on, so you better get used to it." The woman huffed as she pulled her down the corridor.
The girl did not want to live there, she wanted to go home to her mummy and daddy. She was pulled to a large room, with twelve beds. On each bed, except one, was a sleeping girl. As soon as the door opened the girls got up and stood straight, heads held high. You would not know they had just been asleep. "Get back to bed." the woman sighed. She pulled the girl to the empty bed and yanked the clothed from her body, thrusting a plain black t-shirt at her to put on. "This is your bed. If you want to keep it, you better learn and fast!" with that, Madam stormed from the room, closing the door behind here.
The girl crawled into bed, the room was dark and scary. The bed hard and cold. "Where are my mummy and daddy? Why did they leave me?" the girl thought to herself as she pulled the covers tight around her, wishing to wake up in the morning and find that this was all a bad dream.
