My finger hovered over the call button for a moment, but I didn’t hit it. I slid my phone into my pocket and focused on the task at hand instead—finding the stream. It didn’t take me long to put some distance between myself and the house. I breathed in the crisp morning air and admired various flowers sprouting from the ground as I ambled along. Eventually, I heard rushing water in the distance. I followed the sound, and sure enough, I came upon the little stream that I’d caught a glimpse of from the balcony. I sat down on the bank and watched the fast-moving water for a moment. It babbled and burbled and splashed over rocks, and pebbles whisked about in the under wash, reflecting the sun like pieces of glitter. I smiled to myself, as I remembered my secret creek back home.
