“I don’t like this,” Erika murmured as she moved soundlessly by Damien’s side, eyes anxiously examining the building. Barely any of the lamps on the street were working, drowning them in shadows and silence. The distant sounds of cars and music were like an eerie echo from another world. Her energy twisted around her fingertips, tiny snakes waiting to pounce on anyone who dared even breathe in their direction. But no people were passing, not even street dogs or cats looking for scraps. Despite being almost in the middle of the city, the space around the building had been empty for the entire day.
