The team arrived at Gorak Shep just after 2:00 PM and there they had a light lunch of more rice and noodles, along with a mix of carrots and green beans, before heading back out on the last leg of their hike to Base Camp. But for her son and the rest of the men, it was just the beginning. Ahead of them was a month of reaching for the sky hiking up a perilous and unforgiving mountain with a quick temper. At least that’s how she looked at it, although the further she had come up, the more the beauty of the Himalayas had gnawed away at her preconceptions.
