5 Sarah woke up to sunlight pouring through her bedroom window. Outside, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. She flipped the heavy wool blanket aside and rolled out of her cot. The floor was cool to her feet and the room was nippy as she headed toward the community bathroom to brush her teeth and take a shower. Lord knows when I’ll see another opportunity for hot water. Twenty minutes later she was back in her room digging into her backpack to pull out a pair of thermals and a fresh pair of socks. In the room next door, she heard the Irishman, Sully, moving around. Outside, the hall was filled with the voices of people murmuring as they got around. She glanced at her watch. 6:35 AM. Breakfast was at seven. After they ate, they’d be off on the first leg of their long trek to Base Camp. Today
