the beginning
Luna snuggled into her soft duvet as the crimson and gold light of the morning sky filled her bedroom. She remained hidden under the covers as rain could be heard fighting against the window.
Another rainy day.
"For heavens sake, Luna." Her mum enters with a scowl written across her face.
Seven alarms, five wake up calls and Luna still managed to sleep on like a child. Her multi-coloured duvet hid her from the outside world - especially the hundreds of sheets that were scattered around her room. Useless revision notes that she failed to read for her mock exam.
Her mother crosses her arms, the last remaining piece of patience she held for her only daughter had died out a long time ago. Hastily, she pulls the duvet off of her exhausted daughter - her bed was just as big of a mess as her room was, she was surrounded by textbooks, half eaten pizza and empty water bottles.
"Mummy, it's Saturday," Luna cried, tugging the duvet back from her mother. She was the living proof that a five year old can be stuck inside a seventeen year olds body.
"Lu, it's Wednesday." Her mother facepalmed. It would only be her daughter to miss the biggest exam of her school-year because of her inability to grow common sense. Luna suddenly jolts up - realisation slapping her awake.
"Bloody hell, why didn't you wake me up?!" Luna shouted at her mother while running over to her closet and picking out her school uniform.
"Lord, give me strength," Her mother muttered, staring up at the ceiling.
"I have my mock entry exam for Harvard today," Luna says. She quickly puts on her school uniform - a black skirt and cardigan embroidered with her school's crest on it. Running over to her vanity, she puts her pale-white hair into a fishtail braid.
"I still don't understand why you want to go there, you were never interested in med school before, especially one that's an entire ocean away!" Her mother says while beginning to make her daughters bed. "What happened to writing?"
"I guess, I lost my inspiration and found if I went to Harvard like dad - I'd be able to be as happy as he is running the clinic." Luna smiles while tying her braid together with a black bow. Her mother's expression deepens.
If only, Luna was aware that even if she got into Harvard; they would never be able to afford it.
"Lu, your father is happy because he studied hard and did what he wanted to do in life. You can choose your own path, y' know." Her mother smiles, placing the last pillow on top of her daughters bed. She turns around to see if Luna is listening but she had already left.
"She never changes," She rolls her eyes.

"Bloody hell!" Luna taps her foot impatiently on the concrete platform. Her train was nearly as late as she was.
She was grateful that her house was only an estate away from the train station; or the rainy weather would have caught her.
Luna takes a small sip of her earl grey tea before taking her phone out. Her eyes roll as she opens it to find only one notification which was from her phone company telling her she had ran out of mobile data. She switches it off, sighing at her lack of popularity. Luna attempts to put her phone back into her black, blazer pocket but instead of resting inside her pocket, her phone falls onto the concrete platform; cracking the front screen and smashing any positivity Luna held.
"You're got to be kidding me." She reaches down to pick it up but forgets her boiling hot cup of earl grey tea sitting on her lap.
"Crap!" She shrieks as her tea spills onto her white blouse; staining it and burning through to her skin. She rolled her eyes, mentally facepalming herself at her usual clumsiness.
Today was not her day at all.
