Kegan groaned rolling out from under the bunk beds, one of her favorite spots to sleep, when the guards starting banging on their door.
"Wake up and hit the showers!"
With a heavy sigh she opened her dresser drawer and pulled out an identical bland gray dress she wore yesterday and every day before that.
Luke and Jasper were already awake but they still sat there even as the door opened. "Hurry up." She whined standing by the door.
"You have an hour."
"People are going to take up all the showers. I don't like sharing."
Jasper was the first to get up followed by Luke and they both grabbed their clothes before following Kegan out the door.
Surprisingly, there weren't as many people as there usually were when they showered. The warden only allowed them to shower every two-three says. If they were lucky.
She went over to the women's showers that were merely feet away from the men's. They didn't split up women and men here, it was too small.
She rolled her eyes at the shorts they gave women to wear and the flimsy sports bra after taking her dress off. Apparently women's under clothing could be a potential weapon.
"Ooo Jasper," She winked from across him. "You're looking even yummier than last time."
He ignored the comment she made every time they showered but she didn't miss the way his lips twitched up.
Luke's eyes lingered a bit longer than they usually did on her body when she shed herself naked. Turning her back to the several people there she turned the water on.
"You don't just have to stare Lukey. You're always welcome to join." She gazed at him over her shoulder innocently as his jaw set.
After lathering herself with the soap, God knows how many people used, she turned herself so she was facing them again.
The whole time she ignored the people who yelled at her to stop humming. They did it every time, yet, she never stopped.
"Come to join me for once?" She grinned up at Jasper when he walked over to her shower. He stared down at her blankly as he went to reach for the soap.
"Ah ah," She tsked grabbing his hand. "Who said I was done with that?"
He tried taking it away but she held it behind her back. "Kegan." He sighed.
"I'll give you the soap, if you give me a kiss."
He blinked dully. "No."
She smiled. "Do you hate me that much?"
His hand twitched at his side. "Give me the soap Kegan."
"This sounds so familiar." She rested a hand on her hip. "Difference is, I won't be getting you a new soap bar." It wasn't about the soap.
His hand twitched. "Kegan, give me the soap."
"What are you going to do if I don't? You can have it in one second Jasper. Just one little kiss."
She breathed out a gasp when her back hit the wall harshly. "What're you going to do Jasper?"
Nobody allowed him to answer before one of the guards blew his whistle running over. "Step away!"
"I'm not going to hurt her."
She grinned up at him. "Come on Jasper. Just like old times."
"Step away!"
"I'm not going to hurt her."
"Don't tell me you've gone soft? You don't even wanna hurt me a little?" She pouted mockingly. He applied pressure to her chest.
The guard raised his weapon in the air. "Step away or I'm going to have to use this."
"I'm not going to hurt her." He growled glaring down at the guard.
"Don't lie to the man. He's done nothing wrong. You on the other hand.." She trailed off with a taunting smile.
"You want me to hurt to you?"
"Jasper," She cooed. "You want to hurt me."
His hand yearned to wrap itself around her neck and drain the life out of her but he stepped back instead. He grabbed his towel before storming off.
"Do you need to be taken to the infirmary?"
Kegan scowled at the guard. "You people are always ruining a good moment."
She quickly finished washing herself and wrapped the towel around herself. She walked over to the counters and looked at herself in the sad excuse of a mirror. It was simply foil that was glossed over and put in a plastic case. They, of course, weren't trusted with glass.
"Your right side is crooked."
Kegan sighed and took the pigtail out. She held the pony tail holder up for him and he grabbed it.
Luke took her other pig tail out and ran his fingers through her hair.
"If you keep doing that he's going to hurt you one day."
"He already has."
It was silent the rest of the time up until he finished her pigtails. She turned around so her covered chest was touching his bare one.
"You know I love you, right?"
Luke stared at the wrinkled reflection of them. Kegan sighed quietly and kissed his jaw before walking off towards the open stalls to change.
Dropping her towel she put her undergarments and dress on. She was well aware that Luke was watching her.
"Come on, Lukey. Hurry up."
With a light sigh of his own he dressed in the baggy gray pants and gray t-shirt. They were directed back to their room by one of the guards who then locked their door.
Kegan climbed up to Luke's bed on the top bunk and hung upside down like she always did. She grinned at Jasper.
"Our games always seem more fun each time we play them."
He didn't move, he didn't even look at her.
"We even had an audience this time."
He opened his closed eyes and gave her a deadly look.
"I'm going to kill you one day."
"Oh Jasper," She sighed. "You can't kill someone twice."
She even blinked surprised by how fast he sat up and grabbed her throat. "What I did to you was nowhere near death."
There's only been a certain period of time in her life that she's been afraid of either one of them. Never when she was in this state.
Right now, seeing the truth in his eyes, he made her scared. "That was torture, I made you want to die but you didn't. Do not think I won't kill you if I want to."
She gazed into his icy blue eyes, the same ones his brother had and nodded slowly.
"You'd only be here longer."
"Do you not understand why you're here?"
"I know why I'm here."
"You're here because you're crazy."
"What's so wrong with that? Crazy is fun, new."
"You're not leaving here because you're crazy, insane even."
Jasper finally moved his hand and she c****d her head to the side. "I will get out of here one day. People leave all the time."
"When they think you're not insane. That's when you go to a real prison where you don't have the excuse you're mentally ill."
Kegan lifted herself back up so she was sitting up right. "Sorry." She mumbled when her head hit Luke's chest. He rested against the wall and examined her.
Kegan never apologized. She was never sorry.
She climbed down the ladder and sat at the plastic desk they were given. On top, rested the only thing she really treasured in there. A doll.
It was missing an eye, had a broken giggle, and was dirty but it was something she's had for the two years she's been there. Frank gave it to her the first day she was here.
She remembered the first time she was allowed a roommate. She got two.
Luke and Jasper.
She didn't know till a month later but Luke was mad when he first saw her. He ripped her doll into pieces the first time they fought. Frank was nice enough to have it put back together. She didn't talk to him for a full week. It was pretty hard since they shared a room 24/7.
The twins have only been there a few months, nothing compared to her.
"Milly thinks you're lying."
Jasper gazed at the destroyed doll. "Ask Milly why she's been here her whole life."
"It's because she's broken, you can't send broken people away to society."
"What makes you think you're leaving any time soon?"
Kegan ignored him and brushed Milly's hair with her fingers.
After hours of staring at the wall, playing cards, and talking of pointless things they were finally let out to eat and use the bathroom.
"Will you take me to the bathroom?" She asked Luke.
"Go by yourself."
"Luke," She frowned. "I don't like going by myself."
"I don't care."
He waited in line for his food and she tugged on his baggy shirt. "Please."
"Leave me alone Kegan."
"Take me to the bathroom Luke."
"No."
Her eyes grew dilated before she let out a scream. Luke only walked forward and waited for his food. People looked at her annoyed but it was nothing unusual.
She pressed her body against the wall and curled herself in a ball while screaming. Jasper's hand twitched at his side hearing her cries.
He abruptly pushed his tray away from him and stalked over to her. He ignored when she scratched his arm and dragged her to the stalls.
"Go to the damn bathroom and shut the hell up."
She stopped screaming but her heavy breathing and occasional huffs didn't look like they were going to stop anytime soon.
He grabbed her jaw tightly and forced her to look at him. Her eyes were still dilated with a crazed look.
"I am not going to tell you again, go to the bathroom."
She pushed him away with a huff and stormed into one of the stalls. He waited impatiently for her to come out but when she didn't he walked in.
"Kegan." He glared at the girl sitting on the table to wash your hands. "Go to the bathroom."
She stared at the running water blankly. "Why?"
"I'm hungry."
She looked up with glossy eyes. "You never tell me stop, why did you now?"
He took a deep breath and stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Go to the bathroom."
"What was different this time?"
He didn't answer her for the longest time. "I like it."
"What are you talking about Jasper?"
"Your screams, I enjoy you in pain. Seeing you hurt."
"What was different?" She got off the counter and walked over to him. "What made you stop me for once?"
"You let everyone hear."
"You're a selfish bastard."
He grabbed her hair and pulled it down so she was looking up at him. "I've never killed you for this, the look you give me every time you're in pain. I crave to see you like this, to cause you this kind of pain."
"I hate you."
"Oh sweetheart," He sighed. "I wish you meant that. I truly do."
"I do."
"I would've killed you if you did. I want to see that last desperate breath you give off trying to save your life. I want to see you hurt and cry."
"You've seen it all before."
"I want to be there when you know you can't do anything to save yourself."
"You really are a selfish bastard."
"If I was really so selfish would I want my own brother to be the cause of your death?"
