Edge walked Lucky back to the packhouse feeling grateful that he had waited for her. She was sure it was only because he wanted to know what the Elders had said about her. But like last time, Star had her fail the tests given to her and even blocked them from reading her. Their only words were strong she-wolf or stubborn, which she could not resist chuckling about, especially when sour looks came over their faces. Her wolf does not want anyone to know about her, yet. Even Elder Mitius and his wolf, Ward, understood that. She does not understand her wolf's reluctance to let them know what she is, but she trusts her.
Now, she was walking through the garden, again, but this time, they were in amicable silence. He led her all the way to a dark brown door that led into a stairwell. The special feeling that had surrounded her left the minute she entered the creepy, dark area. Her heart raced and her eyes darted around looking for some unknown villain to jump out at her. A ghost or two flitted through her mind. Beads of sweat started to prick her skin no different than in the Elder's temple. It did not matter how much light there was shining in the brown hallway to this little area. She could feel her fear starting to escalate.
She has a fear of the dark that made her edge closer to the alpha, feeling the chill hit her. It sent Edge into action and wrapped an arm around her to make her feel better. Her wolf came forward, too, and shined in her eyes. Star sent soothing waves to help her, too, but it did not take away from seeing the darkness on the stairs that almost blotted out the steps. She wanted to shake her fear off. She wanted to be braver, but she could not only grip the flowers to her chest, like they could protect her. That was why she leaves the bathroom light on or a nightlight to help her sleep.
“Ms. Green,” Andrew called firmly.
She nearly jumped at the sound of his bass voice, which instilled fear and hope in her. Her head jerked to the sound of his voice, too, feeling its rumbles play along her skin. It did not stop her from tightening her hand more on her flowers or her heart from beating rapidly. Her breathes even come out heavy and long in her struggle to calm down. She cannot let fear grip ahold of her so soon after her wolf was healed. Star would try to protect her when there was nothing to be protected from.
She looked at Andrew, for a moment, leaning against the doorframe in the entryway, drinking him in. It was like she could not believe what she saw standing before her. He looked good in jeans and a t-shirt, showing that he knows how to dress regularly. It made her body tighten in response to this sexy-looking man. His eyes are darkened and red while he stands partially in the light and partially in shadow. Her mouth pooled with drool moistening her dry lips that jerked her to reality. She was almost gawking at him with her mouth only parted, ready to let it spill down her chin. It made her feel better that she came to just in time to keep her from looking like an i***t. That is when she noticed that something wet started dampening her panties more than what Edge had been doing to her so far.
She trembled a bit, causing Edge to tighten his arm around her waist like he would protect her. She wanted to believe he could do that from the demons that haunt her in this darkness. Although he looked like a demon sometimes, who had a hint of godliness about him, like now.
“Yes,” Lucky said a little shakily.
“Are you alright?” Andrew asked with his brow scrunched.
“Yes, yes,” she nodded quickly. “I just…” She debated, briefly, whether she should tell the truth, but then, she realized that she had to do so. They are technically dating, and they would need to know to care for her like male wolves are supposed to do. “I have a fear of the dark."
“Oh,” Edge said, sounding concerned with his brows raised while looking over her
“And I startled you,” Andrew said at the same time. He walked forward and grabbed her hand, gently, pulling her from Edge’s embrace and taking her to the hallway. The doors are black or white with the lights shining on them brightly, which eased some of her fear. “There. Is that better?”
“Yes, thank you,” Lucky said softly as she turned her head bashfully.
She could not help it when these feelings kept surging in her over these men. It did not ease the tension in her when they could elicit her s****l desires to surge forth and that special feeling would hit her straight in her heart. She does not know what to call it other than a budding love. The warmth that seemed to want to coat it made her feel like she was going to explode when they did things like this. Her mind seemed to become mulch and her mouth went dry, preventing her from speaking a decent word to them. It was like they knew where to hit her to make her become a bumbling fool.
Other male wolves cannot do that to her, which made her search for a distraction. She did not need her baser self loose to do what Star fills her head with or dwell on those feelings. It would lead to a heartache eventually.
Her eyes went to his hands, making her want to roll her eyes at the dirty thoughts, except he had flowers in them.
“Are those for me?”
“Yes,” Andrew answered and thrusted them to her.
His Adam’s apple bobbed, showing that he was nervous. She wanted to laugh about it. The big, bad alpha was worried about giving her flowers. She has no rank, no title, and is a pup in their world, and he was afraid to give her flowers. That amused her until Star encouraged her to lick him all the way to his neck. Her gaze went there immediately. She knew that she was just taking away the last remnants of her fear, but she felt too aroused around him. She did not want to go that far with these men when she needed to get to know them, first. Her wolf was just pushing her to mate them for her own personal pleasure.
She took the flowers from him, feeling her tension almost mirroring his. She placed a hand on his arm hoping to instill some calm like she had Alpha Edge last night. It did not work when everything was too much for her, from the s****l tension fueling her to her chaotic emotions. A throb decided to start right between her legs, making her want to act on her impulses, but she could not do it. She needed to be calm when doing this. Plus, she was not willing to risk her wolf with this little bit of exertion. She had just got her back, but she forged on taking a deep breath in.
That was the worst mistake ever, Lucky thought, as she got a lung full of his sweet grassy scent. It mingled in with his arousal, which almost shocked her. She had not been able to smell anyone until now, which says that her wolf was getting closer to the shift.
“Thank you,” Lucky stammered as she removed her hand quickly from his arm.
“You’re welcome,” Andrew breathed, then he cleared his throat. “I can tell that your wolf is healed.” He leaned closer to her and sniffed, almost releasing his wolf’s purr when he exhaled. “You have been to see Elder Mitius. He is good at helping those like you… I mean those who spent their wolf’s energy.”
Lucky giggled and looked at him bashfully hoping he saw it as a flirt. She has struggled to show interest in any guy. It was not easy when she had only dated men in secret, but they were the ones that saw right through her sister’s act. They saw through her mother’s act, too, and the bruises that she would often obtain from their mistreatment. She was lucky to live on a few occasions when she “tripped” down the stairs. Now, she does not have to worry about it. Her mother and her sister will never harm her again, and it was thanks to her wolf for giving her strength.
“Yes, she is very ecstatic to be back at my side… er… in my head,” Lucky struggled to say.
“To be back,” Andrew said, with a chuckle.
“Yes,” she said with a snap of her fingers and a broad smile.
He looked like he was enjoying the wordplay they were doing, which she found a plus in his favor. Then, he sobered, suddenly, drawing back his frown, and it made her wonder what she had done to erase it. He looked handsome and carefree like that. And now, he looked like his somber self with a hint of anger in his eyes. It made her weary that he could change so suddenly for no reason whatsoever. Actually, he acted like his father.
“Well, if your greetings are done,” Edge said with a hint of jealousy tainting his rough voice. “Son, you will begin training Lucky tomorrow. I want her to be able to defend herself should the enemy overpower her guards.”
“Of course, Father,” Andrew said firmly.
“And I will see you at dinner, Lucky,” he said softly as he walked past them looking almost dejected.
He did not give her a hug or a peck on the cheek. It made her feel like he had punched her gut. She thought the walk with him had created something between them that was a little more than friends. She still did not know how she would feel about an older man and her, but in the garden, he had proved it was no problem. It was all one exaggerated feeling of taboo in her mind that she perpetuated because... She was not sure why. She needed to figure out what her true problem was with older men. She felt bad for him, though.
The switch off between partners was something that she knew she would have to get used to, but she did not think about the man's feelings. One or the other will feel left out or jealous when it comes to the other’s turn with her. Right now, there are no scheduled turns for these men to spend time with her. She was just going with the flow of today. It will not do when she needs to make them understand that she is not a toy that gets passed around. Tomorrow, she would have to set something down for each of them, she hoped.
“I was wondering if you would like to get your hair cut,” Andrew said while ignoring his father’s departure. “I noticed last night that the wolfsbane had burned strands of it, and I thought…”
“I would love that very much,” Lucky interrupted loudly.
A big smile stretched across her face, hoping that this would give them time to get to know each other. He may talk about what was bothering him, too. It was some place to start their relationship, she told herself with a bit of hope. If he was upset about betraying his mate, then she would try to make it easy for him. She would have to do it if she wanted to get to know him better and see if he would treat her right.
“This way, then,” Andrew said, and extended his arm like his father had done to her.
Is this how they were raised?
She could not help seeing the familiar way he treated her compared to his father. And he even bore a stronger resemblance to him that made her look at him, again, to make sure he was Andrew. She could not help it when she took his arm, getting the same vibes that Edge had made her feel. His aura, though, is different- less dark. It did not unsettle her wolf as much as the alpha had done when meeting him.
They started walking in the direction of the front door, which was a long walk from the back of the packhouse. She did not mind, though. The only thing she did mind was the struggle to find something to talk about so it would not feel awkward between them. Everything that came to mind was crossed out immediately. She wanted to start by talking to him about his mate, but that could make him angry or sad. There were books and movies that sounded dull and boring to discuss after he had helped her last night. It seemed like nothing she drummed up in her head to say sounded right. She could, at least, feel grateful that her arousal was dampening from awkwardness between them. It was the only thing that made her happy about the silence, but she started to feel nervous around him.
What if this is how their life would be? She tries to talk to him, and everything sounded way too stupid in her head. Is this what it would be- companionable silence? Why is she even still contemplating dating these men and becoming a Luna?
Still, she found no answer in her mind. It was a total blank, where her body had already decided for her.
Lucky heard footsteps coming towards them and felt Andrew stiffen. She looked at Dorran and Rick heading their way with determined looks on their faces. They are marching to her with flowers in their hands and elbowing each other like it was a race. They were cheating if it was. She nearly laughed at their childishness as one “bumped” into the other. They were trying to throw each other’s pace off, but it did not work. Her lips curled inwards to try to stop her laughter making her face turn red. She did not want to hurt them, no matter how funny it looked to her.
“Ms. Green,” the brothers said together as Andrew sighed heavily. She was sure that he shook his head, but she kept focused on them and trying not to laugh. “We wanted to give you flowers.”
They glared at each other for a moment and that made her struggle not to laugh difficult. She took them, though, with what could be construed as a bashful thank you. That was not the truth of it. They jerked their heads back, giving her their full attention to her. A smile perched on Rick’s face while Dorran remained stoic with a hint of deviousness in his eyes. It made her self-conscious. She was used to her sister getting all the attention, not her. Her face turned a dark rosy color because of their looks and the way they were making her feel.
Lucky wanted to cheer on her natural ability to feel awkward or embarrassed by selected things. It only helped her to flirt with them instead of going off her list of things to do to make them feel special. And it was another bonus on the man’s side that made it easy to flirt naturally.
“I can take them, Ms. Green,” Easter said, startling her.
“Sorry,” Lucky mumbled with her blush deepening. “You are just so quiet.”
“It’s alright,” she chuckled as she took them. “I’ll put them in your room.”
“Our father would not let us near you while you were unconscious,” Dorran spoke up. He did it to distract her as she released the flowers absent-mindedly to the omega. “Or they would have been at your bedside when you woke.”
“He insisted that you sleep in his bed, too,” Rick chimed in.
“It is alright,” she said softly. “It is a part of the contract that I date each of you, including your father. I know what I have gotten into.”
A grimace formed on Dorran’s face while Rick tightened his smile like he did not like that. Andrew, she noticed, was stoic, showing nothing of his feelings, which made her curious about his thoughts. Is he disappointed about his father trying to keep the alpha post? She wanted to think about it some more except someone cleared their throat.
“I was wondering…” Rick began, looking a little nervous, which perked Andrew’s brow. “If… Is it true that Father took you on a walk?”
“Yes… to see the Elders,” Lucky said, almost laughing at the way he was earnest to know the answer.
“Ummm… Then, I was wondering if you would like to sit with me at dinner?” he mumbled.
It looked like he was being forced to do this and that hurt. She wanted him to want her. She did not want him to feel like he was forced to be with her. Her face tightened for a moment to hide the pain she felt inside. It was crazy that she would feel this way when they barely knew them. She can understand that they may not like to be forced into accepting a chosen mate, but their feelings towards each other should be neutral. There should not be pain in her because of their attitude towards her or words. It made her curious about why she felt this way, as if there was a true bond between them.
This just reminded her that she was an unwanted prize that they must accept for their title’s sake. Will he be good to her if she chooses him as a mate? This was almost like how her family treated her- unwanted and abusable. She did not know if she could trust him to not see her that way, but he would most likely use her as a s*x toy. Could she handle that if it was true?
“I would love to,” Lucky agreed, forcing her voice to sound enthusiastic. She could not let her melancholy affect her, until she got to know him better. “It will give us a chance to get to know each other.”
“Good,” Rick said and rubbed his hands together. “I will pick you up at your room at six-forty-five.”
“We may be a little late, Brother,” Andrew cautioned him. “I am taking her to get her hair fixed from the incident last night.”
“Marbella’s?” Dorran asked curiously.
“The only one I would trust with my hair,” he chuckled.
“Then, may I have a word with her alone?” his brother asked stoically. “You are both going to have your time with her today and I will not have a chance."
“Please, hurry,” Andrew stated firmly. “I do not want us to be late for dinner. Father monopolized a lot of her time already."
“We know,” Rick drawled, wearing a frown. He walked up to his brother, putting a hand on his back, and began directing him down the hall. “Dorran can take her to the front, and I’ll walk you to your car.”
“And she starts training with me tomorrow to combat whoever may attack her,” Andrew announced.
