Beta Finn walked quickly through the doors and down the hallways. Lucky only saw a fraction of the décor that decorated the walls. There were paintings in gold or silver frames or stands containing knicknacks that looked too expensive. Each hallway had its own style and looked from half blue and white to half red and gold. There were some parts that looked like they had a mural painted on it which she wanted to inspect. The beta would not slow down to allow her to see one ounce of the artwork to know where she was. It ticked her off, until they got to a double brown door that had black knobs.
This area seemed to have an ominous presence about it that made her want to turn tail and run. Her wolf tells her that it was the alpha’s aura that made it feel like she was heading to her doom. She could have sworn it was about seeing her fate looming before her. And what was worse is, Star said that he was not in a good mood. It only caused her mouth to go drier. She wanted to swallow down the lump that reformed in her throat, making her wish she had not come here. Her heart was thumping in her chest and sweat was starting to coat her, again. She had to move her fingers around to try to dry them. It would not be good to have clammy hands if she was forced to have s*x.
“You will stay,” Finn told Ross as his hand went to the knob.
Her head jerked towards them, wishing to not be alone with the man on the other side of the door.
“I was told that I have to be with her in place of her parents,” he objected, confused.
“Alpha Edge wants a private word with her before anything,” Finn explained. He sounded snobby about it, which added to her irritation towards this man. “Not that it is any of your business. She is eighteen, correct?”
“Yes,” Ross answered with a firm nod of his head.
“Then, she is able to do everything by herself,” Finn snorted at him with a roll of his eyes.
She refrained from gawking at this man who declared she was of the right age to do what she wanted. She wanted to thank him, but she felt too frozen to do so. No one, not even her parents, has declared her an adult. Her lips only parted while sucking in air, feeling her heart thud a bit at the way he was taking up for her. She was elated that she had a chance to be free here to do as she wanted or to be who she is.
Her eyes darted back and forth, seeing the hardness on their faces that said neither wanted to budge from their stance. She knows that he did not defend her to make her feel better. It was to stop an argument before it started. She cannot let her hopes get up when she does not know this man or anyone here. The alpha was somewhat of an enigma to her. She cannot let herself believe that he would care enough about her to be her protector.
“I will be fine, Beta Ross,” Lucky said in a small voice. “I am sure that he just wants to ask me about myself.”
“You see,” Finn said in an “I told you so” tone. “She is not afraid to go in by herself.”
“Her wolf leads her into trouble,” Ross countered.
“She needs to learn what the alpha does and does not like,” Finn pointed out, which made Ross’ shoulders sag.
He looked at her sadly for a moment before giving a nod. She gave him a small reassuring smile that she would be alright. She did not feel it, though. Her heart was pounding, and the pressure of the alpha’s aura was worse when Finn opened the door. It made her stall there for a moment, looking into the semidarkness, feeling the foreboding that washed over her. She wanted to stay on this side of the door where it was safe from large, human-eating wolves. She knew that she had to go through it, though, or risk insulting Alpha Edge.
Breath deep, she told herself as she forced herself to move. She wished that she had not breathed in at all. The smell of cigars hit her pointed nose along with fish water that made it twitch. She wanted to plug it, or at least, tell Star to go back to sleep. Her sense of smell would not be as prominent like now. She does not even know what she is going to do after the full moon when her shift takes place. Then, she would have heightened senses that would drive her nuts as she tried to control it.
She entered the office fully keeping her eyes straight ahead of her, trying to look poise. She could barely see the man in the high-backed, brown wooden chair. He did not even look up as she entered and walked towards him. It was not like she could see him from this distance, even with the lone window that was shining the sun on him. It was supposed to make him look like a god or something, she was sure, which she wanted to snort about.
How was the sun shining?
Lucky refrained from snorting and decided to look around instead of guessing this man’s appearance. Plus, it would help distract her from the alpha aura pressing down on her that irritates Star. She turned her attention to the brown bookshelves that were lined behind him to forget about her curiosity. It goes from the window to the door with the rest of the wall a bland dark blue. There was nothing there to decorate it and, oddly, she noticed that the floor’s color was the same, except for where the sun beamed in. It made it look made of glass and lighter. That was when she noticed the white poles that seemed to be embedded into the floor with the glassy tiles covering part of the base. Cracks and fissures are in those tiles, unlike the top of the pole fitted into the white ceiling. Each one was placed at the flattened portion of this office before it makes a sharp curve upward. It forms a dome shape in the middle where, all the way to the top of the dome, it holds a circular light fixture. It made it look like the sun was beaming down and not reaching the darkness.
Her mouth parted in awe over the way it was designed even as she moved further inside. There was another bookshelf off to the right side of her behind those poles, with her left having a round brown table. She was sure there was more that would intrigue her, but she could tell that she was getting closer to the alpha. The aura was getting heavier and began to push on her more with anger at the epicenter of it. She had to push it off her to just be able to focus on what she had to do.
She turned her head back to the alpha, noticing that he was looking at her now. The first thing she noticed about Alpha Edge was his magnetic blue eyes. They are darkened that unfurled something inside her. It made her want to rush to him and play with that piece of hair poking from his black buttoned shirt. She wanted to run her hands through his brown hair, then his beard. It almost looked like a mountain side with its floppiness that had her thinking about mountain men. She could have sworn it was white a moment ago, but she was too far away to see it clearly.
Lucky tried not to let her disturbing feelings and thoughts get to her, but it was impossible. There were no scars on his tanned, angular face that formed a grimace, like she was told. It, too, seemed to affect her, making her want a smile to perch on his pale lips instead of a frown.
Would he look more handsome like that or sexy?
She had never felt this stirring before from just one look at a man. He caused her to be aroused, which shocked her more. She felt like she was ready to give her body to him. She had had s*x before, yes, but none of those men made her want them immediately upon sight. Her panties even felt damp with her stomach tightening because of what she was feeling inside. Her mind buzzed with the need to rush to him and wrap her arms around his neck. She was trying to fight it, and the image of his muscular arms around her waist holding her close. She did not want to think about his broad chest or to follow her urges like licking her lips to tantalize him. This is nuts, she thought hastily, as panic wanted to well inside her. Even the beta did not elicit these feelings.
Lucky breathed in as deeply and silently as possible, trying to tone down her chaotic feelings. She kept her face in its frown. She was trying not to move it an inch, so they did not know his presence disturbed her. It would not help her get out of this deal or sooth her nerves from his aura, anyway.
Does he feel the same way?
No, it was her wolf that was high on the alpha’s pheromones wanting to receive his pleasure. Other she-wolves felt the same as her now, but it was the wolf that made them surge for the alpha. A part of her was not sure that was true until now. She cannot do anything to him, she knows, or she will regret it. Even her wolf did not want to be used as a s*x toy.
Star pulled back, putting up a block between them to keep their natural instincts from making a fool of themselves. She did not know if she could take much more of it without doing something stupid. It tampered down her arousal a bit, but she could still hear her wolf's growls in her head. It eased the tension in her shoulders and let her feel less angered about what an aroused state would make her do.
“Watch it!” Finn called sharply.
“Huh!”
Lucky froze in her steps and looked at him. Finn’s hand was extended out, like he could stop her from taking another step. Who was she kidding? He could do just that. He was muscular, tall, and very foreboding with his grimace, but she looked down to see what was so important that he had to snap at her.
She was about to step on thick glass where fish were swimming under it. He has a fish tank built into the floor, she thought in astonishment. She took a step back, looking at it with wide eyes that sparkled. She did not want her high heels to step on them and break them. Those beautifully colored fish looked tropical and large in the blue water.
“Thank you, Beta Finn,” she said, breathing heavily. “That would have been a cruel thing for me to do.”
It made his brows jerk up, shocked to hear the sincerity in her voice. She did not know why that was shocking to him. They were not hers and deserve life just as much as she does, but it was more. She felt drawn to them like they were hers, too. The orange one that resembled a catfish kept coming at the glass and looked at her like he was curious. She saw a vibrant blue one with goldish looking spots on it and a fin on top that circled underneath that one. It was waiting, she was sure, but she just kept staring at them. A smile lit her lips. Her mind was blank, and all the anxiety and fear just vanished from her. Even the fight against the alpha’s aura was in the back of her mind. She just looked at the two fish so entranced while the other smaller ones traveled past them. It softened her features and drew a peace inside her that she did not know she needed. It was not until a sharp cough jerked her head up to the alpha and ended it all.
She came back to reality where she realized that she was in the alpha’s office. And the alpha was waiting to talk to her with a bored look on his face that bordered on amusement. She was sure he was not laughing at her but imagining what she would be like while he mated her. Her face paled when she realized that she had gotten down on all fours and nearly had her face to the glass. She blushed at what they must think now that they saw her like that. She frowned, feeling disgusted with herself for allowing something like that to give him an image in his head. It was not like she had not seen fish before. There was a pet store near her home that she walked past sometimes when she was sent for supplies. This just added to her list of weird that she had made when she became a wolf.
She moved as quickly as her dress would allow her to get to the chair facing the alpha. She had to pull up the skirt a little to be able to get to her feet, hoping it did not enhance his imagination. It did not help her feel any better about how she looked or the smirk on the alpha’s face. She wanted to punch it, feeling her anger starting to flare, which made her breath in to clear it. It did not work this time as the image of what it must have looked like kept steady in her mind. Along with that, she thought about what these men might be thinking. She was sure that it was s*x, her, and the three of them together. That made her want to throw a punch even more so than before. Her wolf was encouraging her to do both, too.
Star was confusing her, which only made her want to shake her head, hoping it would stop soon.
“I’m sorry, Alpha Edge,” Lucky said with a smile that she hoped to be pleasant. “Everything is just so beautiful here that it captures my attention.”
“Then, have your attention captured on me for a few minutes,” he barked at her.
She jumped in place and moved quickly to sit in front of his brown desk. There were papers spread across it with the normal that anyone would have to do their work. It almost looked neat, but she itched to straighten it. She has a neat side that made her borderline OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). She would only be able to look at it for so long before she decided to straighten it. Her fingers even twitched, but she grabbed the brown wooden chair on her left and sat down to distract herself.
“Well, Ms. Green, you finally made it,” Alpha Edge said tauntingly. She wanted to retort but her mind was blank. This man had unnerved her to be tongue tied, which is not good. She wanted that feisty woman back that held her ground and made her feel confident, again. “I guess better late than never. Everything has been arranged for you. If there is anything extra that you would like, please do not hesitate to ask. And thank you for wearing the butterfly barrette in your hair. It helped me distinguish between you and your sister.”
His deep voice almost sounded like that of a god, but it echoed in this cavernous room, sending shivers down her spine. She knew this place was designed to make someone squirm, but this was ridiculous! She was not fearful of him right now. In fact, her body feels like it was lit with something that stimulates every part of her. She wanted to lean towards him and listen to that voice that holds so much authority and power. It was crazy that he would make her feel this out of control when Alpha Cullen could not do that to her. She was sure that she was going to lose her body to him the minute he decided to take it. Her mind, however, would not allow her to go any further than sit upright with her ankles crossed.
“Of course,” Lucky answered hoarsely, feeling her mouth dry. This man is influencing her in a way that she does not like at all. She did not want to feel mesmerized by him or to feel for him at all. She had to grip onto her anger and use it to state perfectly clear how she felt about the deal. “I do not wish to be your s*x slave.”
There, she thought, feeling relieved that she had expressed herself. She forced it out of her hoping to clearly say what she believed was right in her heart. It made her feel a lot better, but in the next second, she started to tremble. Alpha Edge’s aura turned heavier suddenly. She looked at him, trying to keep her composure through her fast-beating heart. There was anger in it while his face remained impassive for a long moment. She did not know if she would be able to tolerate his aura's strength much longer. Her wolf was even growling in her head, feeling its menacing presence around them. Star wanted to fight while she wanted to apologize and crawl in a hole. This feels so uncomfortable like she has just entered a house haunted by demons.
Then, he turned his head slowly to look at Beta Finn. That was when his lips pursed like he wanted a kiss. Her mind buzzed with thoughts of kissing him. Her tongue was itching to lick her lips to draw attention to herself. Her hungry eyes were glued to them, wanting to devour them in an instance. She had to look away, but she turned to the beta. It drew a different kind of tension in her body. It was one of fear, so she looked away, again, coming to the alpha. She felt d***ed at this point. One side wanted her to go to Alpha Edge and the other side did not.
Lucky had to look away, or she was going to commit a sin. She decided to turn her head to Beta Finn, again. All her wayward thoughts stopped when she saw the wide-eyed look on Beta Finn’s face. It startled her to see so much of it there. Higher-ranked wolves do not scare easily. She did not know what to do seeing him like that and smelling his fear on the air.
“Who…? Who told you that you would be a s*x slave?” the beta asked shakily.
“My sister, the Luna, and my mother,” Lucky answered just as shakily.
Her eyes switched to looking at the alpha’s grimace marring his features as he continued to get angrier. It looked like he would not pull back his aura from her. She could not take what she was feeling from him anymore. She was sure that she had done nothing wrong other than to answer his question honestly. However, the next thing that popped out of her mouth surely would get her in trouble.
“Could you please tone down your aura? My wolf is half wanting to f*** you and half wanting to fight you. Then, there is me. It feels like I am being pressured to decide what I want to do.”
“I apologize about that,” Alpha Edge said. He was not even shocked by her words or telling her to watch her mouth. And he apologized, which had her mouth nearly parting at that as she felt the weight of his aura leave her. Alphas are not good at apologies. She noticed that from Cullen. “It seems that you were misled, as was I about some things regarding the reason you are here. Apparently, people wanted to frighten you as well as draw you here…”
“Alpha, I swear…” Finn began before he stopped, then gritted his teeth like he was in pain.
He dropped to his knees and squeezed his eyes shut, making her gasp at the sight of this. She jerked out of her chair feeling alarmed that this alpha might come after her next. He was not even using his hands, just his mind to make his pack members drop like that. She was sure that it was the mind-link thingy that she was told about. She was not a part of a pack yet, so she did not know how to use it. The only thing she knew was that the eyes darken when it was used. This, however, does not look like that. This looked like mental torture was going on.
Then, the beta’s neck snapped around from the weight of his aura killing him.
