Lucky turned her head to look at her perfect mother in the front seat. The same mother, who had marched into her room that afternoon on the day in question, and slapped her. Her slender face is covered with makeup to give her a bit of flare while being conservative for her age. Her flawlessly done brown hair lies down her back with a shine to it. Any other time, it was a dull color that she was covered over with hair cosmetics that cost a fortune, including dying it. Her turquoise green blouse buttons just to her collarbone to the match skirt. It is wrinkle free, of course, after traveling this long. And it hides the plumpness of her body. It, too, held the same perfectness that drove her crazy, but it was all fake.
Her boobs are fake, too, she thought as she remembered the implants she had gotten last year. It was all to make her look “womanlier”. Her mother had told her that, but there was a different truth behind that and her cheery disposition.
She was happy about sending her daughter to her doom for "betraying" the family. The statement was loud and clear in her mother’s light green eyes, especially when they flashed and brightened with her evil idea. There was no mistaking the evilness that lingered there or the glint when she looked back at her daughter. She was ecstatic about what was to come next for her.
“Yeah, and I become a s*x slave,” Lucky grumbled miserably in the back seat of the car.
“You did this to yourself,” her father grounded out angrily, making his lean frame hunch forward.
She looked at him, noticing the grey threading through his dark blonde hair. It seemed like he had gotten older from this three-day trip. She would like to say that it was guilt wracking him, but she doubts that. There was hardness in his brown eyes and a firmness on his tanned, lean face that showed no sympathy towards her. The grip on the steering wheel was about the only thing that said he was ticked off, but still, he did correct her, which hurt.
Tears were gathering in her eyes, turning her pale face rosy. She looked down at her fingers pinching a piece of her grey dress together and rubbing it. It was the only way she could get her frustration out of her before meeting the alpha of the Dark Amber Pack. She was glad her blonde hair was parted to one side, making it hide one side of her face. She did not want anyone to see the misery written on her to where it turned her cheeks rosy. She hoped the pink tips in her hair would make people believe they are seeing things. Her heart thudded at what she knew was the truth. It makes her despair worsen.
There are no more words that want to get around the lump in her throat when she feels so hopeless. A shuddering breath tightened her chest and squeezed her heart. It felt like it was squeezing her frame that made her want to pant to get air in her. She does not want this. She does not want any of those men touching her body or having their way with her. It does not matter how they gloss it up or what they say to her. She was nothing but a means to an end; a way to produce heirs for that alpha’s pack.
“You will be treated well,” Ross stated firmly from beside her. “You just need to watch your back.”
She turned to look at him, seeing his hardened eyes and his buff body tense. He looked ready for anything, but she could not blame him for that. She did try to run away.
Lucky wanted a directional arrow to show her the way out of this. She had tried to escape quite a few times and only one of them was somewhat successful. If she hadn’t sneezed, then she would not have gotten caught in the trash dumps. That was why it took so long to get to this pack, but now, they were almost to her prison. She would feel less icky and more like a person, if they turned around from this awful place.
She turned her head to the window, seeing people looking at them from outside their homes. Curiosity marked their faces. She understood, though. They were the only convoy traveling on this road that had barely a sign up for any reason. Who wouldn’t want to know who was in the line of cars heading to an unknown destination? She does not want to be seen by them, though. They may know why this long train was heading to the packhouse, which makes her feel worse.
“Do you remember what the alpha told you about Alpha Edge Titan?” Ross asked blandly.
“Yes,” Lucky nodded as she slowly turned her head back.
She wanted to yank her hair away from her face, but it would mess up the hairdo. Her mother would have a fit that would be an endless beratement of how awful she was as a daughter. She does not need that right now. Besides, the lone braid matched the style of her dress that she was allowed to pick out for this visit. Everything else had been chosen for her, which made her furious, especially as lingerie was given to her. Then, there was the light grey gem butterfly barrette holding one side of her hair back.
That was a welcoming gift from the alpha. It astonished her that he would know her choice of outfit and her favorite insect. She could not take her eyes off it even when her twin sister had waltzed into her room and screamed about it. She found herself memorized by its simple design of metal upon metal and the glittery jewels. It was not like her family ever got her something this beautifully done, but all of the awe was washed away when Lucy told her that he had been given information about her. She said it with a sneer and a glint in her eyes that made Lucky sure something nasty was said about her. She was sure that it was mostly about her attributes while painting her personality as horrible. Or maybe he sent it to look less like her twin, which was what she hoped was true.
“Are you going to recite it or just sit there moody?” Ross asked sharply.
“Fine!” Lucky snapped, turning her head fully towards him with her eyes narrowed.
Her anger started to rise at the way he was acting like an a****** to her.
“Alpha Edge Titan is like a Sherriff to the surrounding packs. All of his mates have died, leaving three sons that are half brothers to each other. Their mates died as well. He is surly, grumpy, and wants his way a lot, so I do not look him in the eyes or even talk back at all. If I do, then I can expect bad treatment from imprisonment, whippings, or being put in my place in a grotesque way. He may even pit me against a stronger opponent to ensure that I get the s*** kicked out of me, too.
“He is scarred, so I do not mention it or try to rise above the status that he provides to me. And if I want something, then I need to ask him from this point forward…”
She continued listing the man’s many bad qualities that she was told about. It all made her scared to know that she was being forced to live with an insane man. She could understand his grief and his son’s grief, but this was ridiculous. All four men wanted her as a s*x slave!? She was going to die before she saw nineteen. She dreads the thought of what will happen to her. The alpha was too notorious for his coldness to give her any comfort, but that was why her mother was so happy. She will live in misery while Lucy lives in blissful happiness.
“Did I miss anything, Beta Ross?” Lucky snapped as she glared at him and him at her.
“No, but your attitude needs checking, newborn,” he growled. “I am just trying to help you.”
“Don’t bother,” Mom said dismissively with an air of happiness. “Any help given to her is wasted. She learns by falling on her face like when she drank…”
“For the last time,” Lucky shouted angrily, “I was drunk and led into that room. The drink was given to me by someone.”
A huff sounded from Mom, but she knew the truth. Even the beta, who gave her a small smile, knew that she was telling the truth. The alpha of the Crescent Pack knew she was telling the truth as he admitted it when her family was not there. The fact remains that he had to sooth his mate’s anger by sending her to someplace miserable. It was her punishment.
Now, she has a wolf that was hellbent on breaking free and tearing her family apart. It wanted to shift sooner than the full moon, but it couldn't do it. Like all newborn wolves, the first full moon is when they shift, unlike natural born wolves. They shift anywhere from twelve to twenty-one depending on the wolf and their situation. She, unfortunately, has one that was eager to help her grow from a quiet girl to a loud one that defends herself.
Normally, she would have said nothing when demeaned by her mother. She would have taken it then later cried in her room while giving herself a pep talk. Since gaining her wolf, she has felt different than she ever thought she would, even when she dreamed of running away. It was like she became empowered to take on the world while giving care at the same time. This feeling had her wanting more love and more control in her life. She wanted all the name-calling and degrading from her peers and her family to stop. That was another reason she was being sent to that pack. She almost leaped onto her sister for telling people that she was a happiness stealer, and that she was jealous of her own twin. It could not be further from the truth. It is why her anger got the better of her. She just wanted to be seen as her own person and not a copycat image of her twin.
“You shouldn’t have been drunk in the first place,” Mom hissed angrily, turning her head to show her hardened face. It made her look like an evil witch, in Lucky’s opinion. “You should have been with your sister…”
“I was trying to get to know the pack,” she growled, feeling her wolf starting to edge forward.
“Lucky,” Ross warned her. “Do not make me have to sedate you, again. We are nearly there.”
“Fine!” she snapped and threw herself onto the black velvet seat with her arms crossed over her chest. “All of you need to shut up about that d***ed night!”
“No one will say anything more,” Ross said firmly. “Right, Mr. and Mrs. Green?”
“Yes,” Dad snapped, starting to ease his tense shoulders. “I don’t want to hear any more about either of you.”
That turned Mom’s head towards her husband and she gawked at him. He sounded mad, which was not something new to Lucky, but it was to her. She wanted to smirk about that, but the iron gates were coming too close. They have pointed tips on them that barricaded the pine trees and the small hills inside. Her eyes softened in fear at the grey cement posts that were a meter apart holding the fence together. The wooden, reddish-brown guard shack appeared in her vision, too, which added to her panic that pounded her heart.
In a few more minutes, she will be in the custody of the alpha. But where is the town they were supposed to travel through to get to it?
She wondered if all those spaced apart houses were the town, but that was not what a few of the nice omegas told her. They were the ones that were good to her and saw how horrible her family was to her. Plus, it would be odd since there were no businesses and each of them were several yards apart. A town would be much closer together than that to support each other's needs, whether it would be work or groceries.
She shrugged it off as a godsent and a curse. At least, no one would know what the alpha's new s*x toy would look like, she thought.
