“Lucky,” Andrew called loudly, startling her.
“I’m coming!” she called back.
We will resume this talk later.
As always, it is a pleasure communing with you. Now, let’s go kick the s*** out of those b****es.
Lucky rolled her eyes before turning around and walking out of her new bedroom. She could not help a small smile crawling up her face from Star's encouragement, but Dorran's gift was still strong in her mind. He made her bedroom feel like home, giving her another reason to feel good. But… how did he know that she liked the paintings on the walls? And how did he have time to sketch and paint half the bedroom in such a short time? She wanted to know a lot more, but her toughest alpha to conquer is calling her, again.
Andrew did not seem to want her, and yet, he did. He seems cold and distant while not. There were moments when she thought he would be nicer, more open, like during training. He seemed to be friendly one moment and gruff the next. She rarely gets to see a true reaction from him. It had only been a day, but she hoped that tomorrow's shopping trip would give her more about him or, at least, a bond would form between them.
Sadness filled her for a moment, understanding her chosen path. It did not mean that she liked it. This was just a way for her to get out from under her family while making sure that she survived the shift. She hoped that the four alphas would understand that she wanted them to come to love her and not use the marking to make them love her. She wanted to work on it by getting to know them and doing things for each other. They seemed to contemplate how to make her love them, which only makes her disheartened by the truth. They will never truly love her the way she wanted to be loved. And that is why she will always have Star as her main source of love.
“Is something wrong?” Andrew asked, sounding concerned.
“No,” Lucky said as she pushed those feelings away to put on a smile. “I was just lost in sad thoughts is all. Everything is good in there other than needing furniture, but I do have a bed and everything.”
“Good,” Andrew nodded firmly. “Like I said, we can go out tomorrow to get your new home furnished. Dad said that Luna Ava is coming in the afternoon, which may mean morning or night depending on her mood.”
“What’s she like?” Lucky asked as they walked out of her new home and she locked the door with the key that Dorran had given her.
"Snotty, a bigger version of Misty but tamed down,” Andrew listed off-handedly. “But when she is tasked with a job, she will make sure it is done accordingly. Just do not expect her to congratulate you on a job well done. It is one of the many…”
“Andrew!” Rachel squealed as she rushed down the hallway to him.
They turned to see Misty's friend half running down the hall in her high heels that matched her grey dress. It was low-cut on her chest so that Lucky was sure her boobs would bounce out of it. Then, she went to leap into his arms, which made her turn her head hoping to not see anything between her legs. That dress was way too short on her body, but he stepped to the side. A frown appeared on her face showing that she was not happy before she recovered, letting a playful smile reform. She wanted to smile at the easy way Andrew managed to evade Rachel's attempt to hug him.
“You always love to play hard to get," she laughed and gave his chest a play smack.
“No,” Andrew intoned with disgust in his voice. He removed her hands from him that had found their way to his chest and arm, making it clear that he did not want her to touch him. “I have told you before, Ms. Winston, I do not want your attention or anything else associated with you.”
“You’re such a kidder!” Rachel squealed. She went to playfully slap his arm, but Lucky grabbed her wrist before she could do it. “Hey! What the hell are you doing, newbie!?”
“Stopping you from attempting to s****l assault or assault Alpha Andrew Titan,” Lucky retorted sharply. “I don’t think his father would appreciate it when I report to him about this interaction. He said no and he meant no…”
“He’s just playing,” she huffed, turning her head to him.
“Really?” Lucky drawled as she turned her head to him, waiting for a reply.
“I am not playing and I’d wish you would get it through your head that I have never had any intentions towards someone like you!”
“Andrew,” Rachel gasped softly, looking hurt.
He stormed off, leaving the two women in the hallway.
Lucky wished that he had not done that. She did not want to be alone with this woman while Star was chanting for her to kick that woman’s a**. It offset her nerves that flipped between fear, nervousness, and satisfaction. She loved that she could get him to state, in a clear voice, that he did not want Rachel, while she felt secure about his loyalties. He looked quite uncomfortable around her, too, which tempted her to let him squirm a bit. In the end, she wanted to do the right thing, but that right thing has her waiting for the retaliation from this woman.
“You!” Rachel growled. She turned to Lucky with her eyes glowering and her lips in a thin line before speaking, again. “You did this. First, Rick, then Dorran, and now, Andrew. You must be really good in bed if they are willing to walk away from love.”
“Please!” Lucky groaned derisively as she tried to hide the hurt this woman gave her. She had to let her wolf give her the backbone to do this, but then, she got an idea. “He cringed the minute you called his name.”
Go get Edge’s wolf.
Liken? Why?
You’ll see. Just tell him we’re in trouble.
“He was just... startled!” Rachel defended herself.
“Is your nose not working?” Lucky scoffed, looking at her incredulously. “He was producing some major unwanted vibes towards you. He was even slinking behind me. And from what I understand from both Dorran and him, they do not like you, Misty, or Cara. They just don’t want to hurt your feelings.”
“That is not true,” she shrieked, sounding hurt by her words.
“It is not only true,” Lucky laughed, “but Andrew was on his way down to the foyer when Dorran and I ran into him. His brother gave him the warning and an offer to come with us. He leaped onto it.”
“Take it back,” Rachel continued to growl, but this time, she was vibrating in her anger. Her face contorted, and her eyes were glaring at her like she was pinpointing the exact spot she wanted to hit. “He wants me.”
“I’m not taking back the truth,” Lucky said, sighing heavily. She feels a bit guilty for prodding Rachel, who sincerely believes Andrew wanted her. “Listen, you need to stop deluding yourself about Andrew liking or loving you. He doesn’t. It just makes you look path…”
Rachel punched her, sending her flying through the air. She landed on her side with a thump that rattled her teeth, sending pain radiating through her head and her hip. Her ribs felt the blow, too, knocking an oaf out of her. She struggled to catch her breath that got knocked out of her, too. She knew, then, that woman packed a punch to knock her into the next world. It, also, made her regret that she made her mad, wondering why she had done it in the first place. It was not like Andrew really wanted her. He only wanted the title associated with her.
Darkness filled her sight that threatened to make her go unconscious as she laid there for a moment in peace. She was not giving up or going to roll over to let this woman hurt her. And this was not the first time that someone had hit her like that. She knew exactly how to make her pay for being an i***t and put her in her place. It did not mean that she liked the idea, especially when she had to climb through the hazy fog filling her mind. She had to stay conscious long enough to stop Edge from killing that woman when he arrived. However, she never mastered moving away from the next blow that comes after that, which made this plan not the best one.
Rachel leaped on Lucky and started punching her in the face while growling and muttering her anger. It made her regret ticking her off and wish for a better plan that would not let her be a punching bag. Maybe she was a pinata? Her mind was a little too fuzzy to think about what she felt like other than struggling to stay conscious after the first two punches. By the time she gave her a third punch, she was ripped off and a roar sounded through the hallway.
Lucky knew who made that roar. She did not need to be conscious to recognize it when shivers of fear slithered down her spine. There was only one man that had made her feel both pleasure and fear when making it. Edge had come to save her from Rachel's anger.
She moaned as she tried to roll over onto her hands and knees, feeling the pressure building in her nose that said it was broken. A woman’s scream pierced through the fogginess of her mind and sent an alarm through her. She wanted to help whoever was being harmed, but she struggled to make sense of everything. Her vision was no better with darkness or white clouds filling it at intervals, making her widen and narrow her eyes. She wanted to rub them to clear it out so she could see what was going on. It was hard when there was a thumping pain everywhere in her body. Her limbs felt heavy, too, like she could barely move them or put weight on them to make herself come to all fours. She felt like she had been stuffed into a dryer with it turned on for her to spin around and around and be slammed into metal. Everything was spinning, too, which made her think she really was being put in a dryer.
She could barely hear her wolf laughing at whatever was going on. It did not make sense why she was not healing her, at first. She promised to be there for her, but she was not doing anything to help her. Then, Star started healing her. It, at least, cleared some of the fog from her head to let her think about what was happening around her, and let her remember the plan.
“Edge,” Lucky called groggily as she made it to hands and knees. She breathed in, trying to boost her voice, hoping that he heard her through his haze. “Edge!”
“Lucky!” Andrew shouted, sounding startled as he rushed to her.
“Andrew, get me to your father,” she slurred with her hand extended out to him.
He grabbed it and helped her to her feet, but everything swayed in her vision. She could not focus on anything, especially not that god-looking man that had Rachel by the throat. His head was turned their way, showing that his nose was scrunched up. His eyes were red. And his fangs were bared and ready to take a bite out of that woman whose face was discolored. The hardness made him look more like a sexy demon that sent her lust spiraling out of control. His raised hand bore his black, one-inch claws that were ready to slice through her. She almost panted with her lust if her injuries did not make her head lose focus, again.
She limped towards him struggling to focus on what she had to do.
“Edge,” Lucky called shakily as she struggled to push calm onto him. “Edge, please. I need help.”
He flicked his eyes over her body checking for the injuries done to her. He probably spotted the bruise forming on her chin and around her eyes from the punches. There was blood on her shirt and face, too, that had stopped already thanks to her wolf. She was sure that she looked like a mess. Then, he looked at his son, who had his arm wrapped around her waist and his other hand holding her hand. She was leaning most of her weight on him while waiting for his father to make the decision. She hoped it was the right one where no bloodshed would happen.
“Lucky!” Dorran called, shocked.
Ahh! Lover painter has come, too.
“I’m fine,” she tried to assure him, but her words were still slurred with her conscious trying to make her sleep. “It’s alright.”
“Lucky?!” Rick gasped, looking at her, stunned to see her so weak. “Did Rachel do this to you?”
“Rachel!” Misty and Cara cried together.
Great! The band is all here. What shall we do next? Sick Liken on the two b****es?
You are becoming power-hungry. No. We will settle this. I just wanted to prove a point about them and me.
“Edge, please!” Lucky called to him and grabbed his arm, making him look at her fully. She pushed the calm into him the best she could with her head being fuzzy. She did not even know if she conveyed the right message to Star. “Please, just let her go for now. You’re going to kill her.”
“Please, Alpha,” Misty begged with her eyes wide. “Rick, get him to stop.”
“She hurt Lucky,” he growled with his arms crossed. He looked like he approved of what his father was about to do to her. “You know the penalty for our Luna being assaulted whether inducted or not.”
“We were having a heated discussion that got out of hand,” Lucky stated, as sharply as she could. She was still surprised that she hadn’t succumbed to the darkness that keeps trying to crowd her vision and the fog that wants to coat her mind. “My wolf alerted you because she knew I wanted to make a good impression as a Luna with our visitors and wouldn't fight back. Things just got out of hand. That was all it was. Please, Edge, I can’t hold on much longer to sooth your anger.”
A gasp sounded from someone, but she was only focused on him. Her body swayed even with Andrew’s hands tightening on her to keep her in place. Her eyes begged him to stop with her heavy breaths heaving her chest as she watched his eyes slowly soften. His hand eased its grip on Rachel and lowered her, slowly, too. She wanted to release her tension, but she could not let herself do that just yet. She had to make sure that he was truly alright before she could let go of everything- conscious and her soothing aura.
“Lucky,” Edge said with a grumbly growled voice that sounded soft to her ears. His hand that came to her face still had his nails, so he curled his fingers to touch her. She did not flinch or move as he slid his fingers down her face in a soft caress. “I…”
“It’s alright,” she nodded. “You didn’t hurt me.
With that, she released her tension and let herself succumb to the darkness crowding her vision. She needed to get rid of the pain that still thumped in her head, but the last thing she saw was Edge’s eyes slowly turning back to their normal color. Muffled voices were next to the last thing she heard as her body slumped between Andrew’s and Edge’s bodies. There was blissful darkness that let her feel no pain nor hear the worried voices of the alphas or the shrieks of the women going for Rachel. She went into a peaceful healing sleep that let her recover from her concussion and broken nose.
