Harley
It was finally Friday, I had spent all this time dreading this day but since Leah was coming with me to my fake wedding that she thinks is totally real, it made me feel like I wasn't completely alone. Now I want the next couple of days to be over as quickly as possible. I finished my packing last night as Archer was so vague about times I didn't want to still be packing and a truck full of angry Lycans turn up at the crack of dawn.
Leah was more excited than I was, but our paths were totally different now. She was only there for a weekend and with the booze she had packed in her case it was going to go by pretty quickly for her, then she gets brought straight back home. I on the other hand am clueless as to what is happening to me after Saturday night.
“I bet they're going to be hot” Leah shouted from her bedroom.
“Who?” I asked wondering what she was talking about.
She appeared in my doorway seconds later with her suitcase wheeling behind her, “The men that are coming to collect your things, I don't know how they all do it but Lycan's are hot, there are some seriously good genes that run through them”
“I wouldn't know I'm about to be a married woman remember” I picked up the last box and walked through the apartment placing it by the front door to make things easier.
Leah followed behind me and stood her case by my things, “You know, for someone who is getting married tomorrow to one of the wealthiest people I know of, you don't seem very happy about the whole thing” she said folding her arms across her chest giving me a strange look like she was already onto me.
Archer was right, I had to up my acting skills if I was to pull this off. As much as I wanted to explain the whole thing to Leah knowing she wouldn't breathe a word. I just didn't want to put her in that situation, she was a journalist, and as soon as people at her company get word of this they are going to be hounding her for any information on the wedding. “I am excited, I'm just really nervous, I'm going to be living in a strange place surrounded by Lycans. I don't know anyone and mine and Archer's relationship is still really new” I explained hoping she bought it.
She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around me hugging me tightly. “It's going to be fine, and if you change your mind, my suitcase is big enough for you to hide in so I can wheel your ass back across the border” I smiled at her humor.
“Thanks, Lee” I gave her a big squeeze then she stood back to look at me.
“Anyway, he's going to be all over you when he sees you in that dress, good choice Harls”
I looked down at my outfit, It was a short white dress with large red roses printed on it, the top was more of a fitted bodice but it was comfortable. I had to try and make a good impression, it was the first time I had ever ventured across the border and I doubt his people would welcome me in my joggers and vest top.
“Have you spoken to your father yet?”
She knew I was avoiding him but didn't know why, “No, I'll speak to him later when we are settled, after all, he is the one giving me away tomorrow” I hoped.
It was a little after 8 Am and as we expected there was a knock at the door. Leah got up from the couch straightening out her dress. “They do love early mornings” I joked as I walked to the door to open it. In front of me stood two men, both very similar looking maybe in their late twenties. Both had shoulder-length brown hair and wore blue overalls. Thinking back to what Leah said earlier about Lycan's being hot I would say I totally agreed with her. I mean they were a kind of scruffy hot but even in loosely fitted overalls I could tell they had a great physique “Hi I'm Mathew and this is Jason, we've been sent by our Alpha to collect items belonging to Luna Harley” One of them spoke as they both bowed slightly.
“That would be me. And it's just Harley” They both smiled and bowed again. “you don't have to do that, come in” I smiled at their politeness. “Everything is here that needs to go,” I pointed to the pile of boxes and bags behind the door.
“Ok Luna, we will get them moved straight away,” Jason said, they both even sounded similar.
“Just Harley” I corrected him but he didn't seem to take much notice as he began moving my things.
Leah walked beside me and nudged me, when I looked at her she wiggled her brows and nodded to one of the men that were bent over. “see, Hot” she mouthed making me laugh and shake my head at her.
I walked to the counter and checked through my handbag making sure I had everything in there that I would need to hand. Purse, charger, makeup bag. I paused hearing a familiar voice, it was my father. He was speaking to one of the men moving our things as they walked back up together, I wasn't sure which one but if I had to take a guess I would probably say Mathew. “I'm going to leave you two alone for a few minutes, I'm going to run down to Paula's and tell her we will be away for the weekend and to keep an eye on things.
“Ok,” I said gratefully, not that I had anything here left to steal but it was still a good idea for her, I really needed a few minutes alone with my father anyway as I didn't know when I would have the chance again.
“There you are, I was worried I had already missed you,” He said as he walked to the kitchen area where I was.
“Nope, not been driven off to my impending doom just yet,” I said sarcastically.
He exhaled loudly, “Harley, I really did try but he was dead set on it being you” I looked up at him and he immediately raised his hands in defeat. “I've not come to argue,” He quickly took the white handkerchief out of his top pocket and waved it in the air.
I couldn't help but laugh at him. “How much do you even know about this guy anyway? Can you say for certain I am going to come out of this thing alive?”
My father had his serious face on which I knew all too well, it was his 'I wasn't sure' face but I am going to make you think all is fine and dandy. “I have no reason to believe you will be harmed, he has always been kind and respectful when I have met with him in the past. His intentions for all of us are sincere, and he needs to make a good impression, so I am damn sure he wouldn't ruin his chance of the throne by hurting his bride” Wow, he really does make things sound believable.
"Fine, I guess your right. You know how mom was about the whole Lycan thing. You can't blame me for having doubts about the whole thing. I was raised to believe they are nasty vile creatures and now you have me shacking up with one"
"I didn't raise you like that, they were your mother's views. I've tried to change that since she has been gone but now you will see for yourself" he spoke calmly.
"I don't share mom's views I thought you knew me better than that Dad" I breathed out remembering the horrible stories she used to tell me as a child. “You are going to be there tomorrow aren't you, I mean to give me away,” I asked him, I know it's not a real wedding but I would still like my father there with me.
“Of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world” he stepped closer and hugged me.
I leaned in closer to his ear while he kept me in his tight embrace and whispered, “Just so you know if I die over there I will come back and haunt you”
“You're not going to die stop being so dramatic” he whispered back.
“You don't know that, I'm going to live with a strange man that I don't even like”
“You think I'm doing all of this just to kill you?”A deep voice came from behind us, I looked around to the door to see Leah and Archer standing in the doorway. “Sorry I was just coming back up to tell you he's here,” Lee said nervously.
Archer's eyes were fixed on me, “I didn't say..” I began to explain.
“I was listening, I know what you said,” I remained silent not knowing how to respond to him. I felt bad, he hadn't actually been mean to me, yet he heard me saying I didn't like him. “Everything's loaded, it's time to hit the road” he motioned his head to follow him and then walked out the door.
Leah looked at me with wide eyes, “Why would you think that?” she asked in a panicked tone. My father excused himself while he walked down to speak to Archer leaving Lee and me alone.
“I don't think that he misheard what I was saying” I tried to explain.
“Well, whatever you said clearly got to him, now we have to drive across the country with a pissed-off Lycan to a place where more pissed-off Lycans are going to be all because you pissed off their Alpha” she began rambling in a panicked tone.
“I didn't mean to piss him off” I grabbed my bag and Lee took hold of her suitcase and we locked up and made our way outside.
Archer was standing by a black car that looked like it had just had a fresh polish. The windows were tinted black giving it a mysterious vibe, it suited him quite well as he leaned against the door talking to my father. He looked different today, not in his usual formal attire, I was too embarrassed by what I said inside to notice how he looked today. He wore blue jeans and a white top that fitted just perfectly so that you could see his muscles bulging out all over.
It was the first time I had seen his bare arms, every inch of them had been tattooed, there looked to be so much detail you could look at them all day. His hair was tied back neatly exposing the perfectly shaved sides, Leah was right, they were hot.
Their voices stilled as Lee and I approached them, both sets of eyes turning to look at me. “I'll see you tomorrow then,” I said to my father breaking the uncomfortable silence. Archer took Lee's suitcase from her and placed it in the boot of his car. She thanked him kindly and he gave her the smallest smile in return, safe to say, he is still pissed.
“You will indeed” my father replied as he leaned in and kissed my forehead. He soon stepped away as Archer came back to the side of the vehicle and opened the door for me. He looked at me and motioned his head to the car telling me to get in. “Bye,” I smiled goodbye to my father and climbed in. Archer closed the door behind me and opened the back door for Lee to get in also.
As I pulled the seatbelt around me I quickly glanced around the car before Archer got into the driver's seat. It was immaculate enough that I could eat my dinner off of the floor, I wondered if he had just bought it maybe. Then I sniffed the air, it smelt god, like Archer in fact, I saw the driver's door open so I quickly looked ahead and watched my father walk a little further down the street to where his car was parked. Even though we weren't that close these days I still wished I wasn't leaving him right now.
Archer pressed a button and the car roared to life, there was no waiting around as soon as his foot hit the pedal we were off on our way to the southern territory.
