Lucia's POV
Two days later
My legs were stiff as I walked slowly down the winding path, trying to figure out what place my mother and Abby took me into.
Being told that it's been not only more than a year but more than two in a coma wasn't the best news anybody would want to hear.
But I was happy that I survived. I wonder what would have happened to my mom had I died.
Though we no longer had our own house, and now we had turned into squatters, I was grateful that I was given a second chance at life.
I began pondering about how I could get my life back. I had about three books which I was writing on certain apps and I didn’t know what had become of them.
'They must have assumed that I died. I hope they didn't mess with my books.' I thought as I trudged slowly along the small footpath I saw behind the house that we were squatting in.
Thank God I saw my laptop, iPad and phone by a reading table just before I took this walk.
I hoped they still worked properly and that the place had an internet.
I was planning on sending emails after the walk.
As the footpath dwindled into the woods, I could have sworn that I heard an almost high-pitched howl!
"Do they have coyotes around here?" I said out loud. I wasn't speaking to anyone but I needed to say that, so I could tell my heart to calm down.
It was beating frantically. I didn't want a situation where I would encounter death by a wild animal just after escaping another death situation.
There was a rattle from the nearby bush and I stopped to observe my surroundings!
It didn't look like I was deep in the woods, besides, my mom told me this was private and gated community land.
My heart beat even faster. I thought it would blast open my chest and run away!
Fear crept inside me and gradually reduced my already compromised pace. I wondered if I would even run if I needed to.
Swiftly turning to my left, I became frozen on the spot when I saw what looked like a gray wolf staring at me with its fangs out.
I backed two steps away blinking, hoping it would just be my imagination. I literally wet my pants when I saw not only one but five others coming out of the nearby thickets, snorts running down their panting mouths.
I felt the warm liquid trickle down my legs as I pondered on how my thoughts turned real in a matter of seconds. I was facing death face to face.
I wondered why karma was after me to be haunted by death in this manner.
I couldn't even scream. Even if I wanted to, my voice wouldn't make it to any human ear because my throat was still very dry.
I hadn't used it in three years. I was told I had an IV for feeding, and it had been directly inserted into my tummy.
I closed my eyes and waited for death. After what felt like forever, death hadn't come, but I abruptly opened my eyes to see a battle between six wolves of all sorts of colors.
'Were they fighting over who gets to eat me?' I thought as fear filled my senses again. I was crippled, I couldn’t even move a muscle. Otherwise, I could have run for my dear life while they were fighting.
There was one big black wolf with a shape of a crescent moon on its forehead that was domineering. It stood on two hind legs and it was so huge that I felt like I was going to faint in front of it.
I saw the five wolves I initially spotted fleeing towards the northern part of the place. They were seriously wounded and had blood on their furs.
I was stunned into silence, the huge wolf-like creature was still standing on two hind legs and growling in a manner that shook the earth under my feet.
It turned around to look at me and, I swear, the remaining hot liquid in my loins found its way down my legs again.
I saw the creature look down at my pants and walked away as if it was disgusted at me. I didn’t even know how long it was until my legs decided to work again. I don’t know why I felt embarrassed that the wolf looked at the piss on my clothes. After all, it was just a wolf. Or was it not?
I managed to drag myself back to the house. “Please remind me never to try and walk ever again! Mother! Aunt Abby! Why did you choose to live among animals? Why here of all places? If such scary animals can just roam around a so-called gated community, what made you even stay here? We have to move ASAP!”
I was almost screaming out my lungs with my already non-existent voice before I stormed to my room to take a shower, change my clothes and throw away the pants I was wearing.
'How embarrassing!' I couldn’t help but shudder at the look that animal gave me.
‘Wait a minute? What animal was that? Was it some sort of mutated wolf, kind of like the hulk of wolves? How was it so huge? It almost looked like a picture I've painted of Lycans in some of my stories. What if? Oh! no!’ I shook my head to throw away my thoughts.
I felt like I had had enough surprises for the past two days. Just yesterday I learned that I had lost almost three years of my life to some accident which I don’t even recall and now, could I possibly be living among werewolves and Lycans? Oh no!
I was literally fuming, yet scared if that was reality!
“You need to calm down and sit down. Let me tell you how it all began,” my mother spoke firmly, for the first time, and I sheepishly sat on top of my bed. It was the first time she used that scolding tone.
