Chapter One:
I gave Kinzey a stern look. "Do not move a muscle." I warned her as I let go of her hand. We are at the ticket booth wating to pay to get into the football game. Jasper, Kinzey and Kerris's father watned me to bring them. "I will pop your butt if you move anywhere." I threatened my devious two year old.
I fished around in my pocket as best as I could while holding Kerris. "Need some help there?" A voice asked me.
I turned around to see my English teacher, Mr. Harris, standing behind me. I thought about his offer for a moment. "Actually, yes, help would be nice." I finally answered. Kinzey is the one I should be holding, she does not listen well. The problem is that Kerris is clingy.
I pointed over to Kinzey who was standing there. "Could you please pick her up for me? That would help me out a whole lot."
After paying for my ticket I waited for Mr. Harris to pay for his ticket. He came over to me afterwards. "You can set her down now."
"No, no, I am going to carry her to your seat. Where are you going to sit at?" Mr. Harris asked.
"Probably right over there in the front." I started walking towards an open section of bleachers. I started walking towards an open section of bleachers. I sat down in the very front. I like the front best, there is no one to block your view. That is a must when you have two, two year olds.
"So," Mr. Harris started. "Are these two lovely little ladies your sisters?"
I laughed out loud at his question. "No, but sometimes I wish they were. These lovely ladies are my children. I am holding Kerris and you are holding Kinzey."
"How old are they?"
"They are two years old. And your next question is probably, 'who is their father'. Jasper Beckham would be the lucky father of not one, but two little girls."
"I never knew you two wer-"
"We were not, we were just fooling around. We were not as responsible as we should have been. Mainly me though to tell the truth. I never did take those pills how I was supposed to."
"Is Jasper in the picture?"
"He...he tries, but it is a complicated situation. Sometimes when I do or say something that pisses him off he won't come around. When he starts messing around with new girls he does not come around. Sometimes when I am mad I will not let him come visit with them. And sometimes he just does not come see them at all. We have a long way to go in our co-parenting relationship."
"You got that right girl!" My best friend Callie chimed in. I did not even hear her walk up. "Hey there my little kinzeykins." Callie hugged Kinzey. "And hey there to you too my little kerriswheel."
Callie sat down in front of me before turning to reach for Kerris. Kerris giggled and happily ran into her arms. Kinzey frowned and looked back at Mr. Harris. "Me want down, now."
Mr. Harris chuckled before placing Kinzey on the ground. As soon as her feet touched it she hurried towards Kerris and Callie. Kinzey hates for Kerris to do or have anything without her.
"It is hard to believe one of my quietest, shyest students has children. Not a child, but children." Mr. Harris shook his head in disbelief. "You seem
to be a very good mother."
"Thank you." I blushed at his compliment. I do not hear very many compliments anymore. So when I do hear them I cherish it.
"Hey," Callie called to me. "Jasper wants you down there on the field right now. He looks pretty angry about something."
I smiled at Mr. Harris. "Be right back. I gave Kinzey and Kerris the eye. "You two listen to Callie. She will tell me how you were when I get back."
I made my way towards the football field where Jasper was yelling at someone. I quietly approached him. "Hey," I called out. "You wanted me down here?"
"I just want you to know that I do not want my kids around that hoe Callie. I do not even want her touching them. She has slept with half of the team!" Jasper ran his fingers through his hair that he loves so much.
"Including you." I mumbled under my breath. "Callie is my friend, and she will be around my children. I have the say so, I am with them everyday. I would not let her be around them if I felt like she was too wild and a bad influence."
"What did you say?" Jasper turned his anger towards me.
"You heard me." I answered smartly, letting attitude seep into my every word. "I said including you, don't even try to act like you did not sleep with my best friend. She tells me everything, even the stuff I do not want to hear."
"Unfit mother." Japser muttered turning around.
"Wow Jasper," my mouth dropped open in shock. "Did you seriously just call me an unfit mother? I know we both throw low blows at each other, but that is beyond low. Do you really want to go there right now? I will have you know that I am a damn good mother, I do everything for those little girls all by myself, with hardly any help from my parents and zero help from you." I glared right back at Jasper before turning my back on him.
I marched back towards where Mr. Harris and Callie were waiting for me in the bleachers with Kinzey and Kerris. Callie could tell as soon as she saw me that I was fuming.
"What did Jasper want?" Callie asked me. She adjusted both Kerris and Kinzey on her lap.
"He does not want you around Kin and Ker. He said that you sleep with way too many people and are a bad influence on them. I pointed out that he slept with you. Then he called me an unfit mother."
I know that I am not an unfit mother, and I know that Jasper only said it out of anger, but it still hurts. I would never call him and unfit father, though I want to at times. A deadbeat, yeah maybe, but an unfit father? No.
"He just wants Kinzey and Kerris here so that he can showcase them to everyone after they win the game. That is the only f*****g time they are his "pride and joy" and it makes me sick. I am tired of it, if I could get rid of him I would." I shook my head and picked Kinzey up from Callie's lap.
"I am going to take the girls home. It is past their bedtime and Jasper is not going to parade them around like he is the best father in the world."
I gathered the girls and their things and with the help of both Callie and Mr. Harris made my way to my car. I put Kinzey in her carseat and Callie put Kerris in hers.
"Do not let his words get to you." Mr. Harris advised me. He looked inside of my car at Kinzey and Kerris who were giggling about something. "Those two little girls look perfectly happy and healthy and they love you so much and that is all that matters."
"Why did you take them home?" Jasper asked. He caught me on the way to my locker. Now he is cornering me in so I have no other choice but to talk to him.
"I took them home because it was past their bedtime. I forgot that I am an "unfit" mother and should have let them stay up until eleven or twelve at night." I retorted.
I shoved my math and English books into my locker. I turned around to face Jasper. We stared at each other, neither one of us backing down.
"Jalani, girl, you will not beli—," Callie started. She stopped when she saw Jasper. Her smile turned into a frown and she stared at Jasper.
"What the hell are you doing over here? Don't you have some crowd of bimbos to fool?"
"Don't you have some guy on the baseball team to sleep with?" Jasper retorted, turning his gaze away from me. I took the opportunity then to slide underneath his arm.
"Jalani! Come back here Jalani!" Jasper yelled after me. I could hear Jasper's footsteps following me towards my classroom. "Jalani, I am sorry for what I said, it was stupid. You are not an unfit mother."
"Don't you think I know that already?" I asked as I whirled around to face Jasper. "Leave me alone Jasper, I do not care to hear yet another apology from you."
I avoided Jasper as best as I could for the rest of the day. If I saw him coming my way I turned around. If I was about to pass him I turned to the side. I am sure I was making him mad, but I do not care.
At the end of the day I walked out to my car with my other friend Tara. Tara is a high profile model, nobody else at school knows yet. The only reason I found out is because I walked in on her rearranging her wig one day in the bathroom. We instantly became friends after that.
"What are your plans for the evening?" Tara asked me as I threw my backpack in the back of my car.
I shut my door before leaning against my car. "I am thinking about taking Kinz and Kerr to get signed up for gymnastics or ballet. After that maybe I will take them to the park or to get ice cream if I feel like dealing with them after they've had sugar."
"Aww!" Tara exclaimed. "Kinzey and Kerris would be adorable gymnast or ballerinas. Let me know if you get them into one of those, I would love to photograph them in their outfits."
"I will for sure let you know." I smiled at Tara. "Well I better go pick my wildlings up. My sister Janiah is watching them for me."
-
"I cannot believe that I am going to a party. It feels like forever since I have been to one." I looked at myself in the mirror once more. I'm wearing -. I let Callie and Tara convince me into coming out. They added in that I might meet a cute guy.
We walked into the house and I was immediately hit with the scent of smoke and alcohol. Ahh, just like I remembered it.
"I am going to go down a couple of drinks." I notified Tara before heading off. It's been two years since I have drank heavy. I usually only have one or two.
I moved my slightly drunk self to the dance floor. I spotted Callie dancing with Derrick, the captain of the soccer team.
As I was dancing I felt a hand grip my wrist. I looked up in shock to see Jasper. He dragged me to the kitchen. I attempted to free my hand from his iron grip, but I failed miserably.
"What the hell are you doing here?" He asked me, a frown on his gorgeous face.
"Being a teenager, having fun, living life." I replied sassily. "Do any of those answers suit you, your highness?"
"Do not play with me Jalani. I am being serious here. What are you doing here and why are you not with the twins?"
I sighed in exasperation. Is Jasper really trying to pick a fight with me right now? Right here of all places. The one time I decide to have some me time.
"I am here to party." I whined. "I just needed some me time. I am with Kinzey and Kerris the majority of the time when I'm not at school or working." I continued on before he could respond. "Is this when you call me an unfit mother again?"
-
"Don't they look so adorable?" I asked Callie as we watched Tara photograph Jasper, Kinzey, and Kerris together. I asked Jasper would he come to the shoot. I was surprised when he said yes and even more surprised when he showed up.
"Jasper is very handsome, ugh, who am I kidding! Jasper is sexy, he looks like a s*x god out there." Callie blushed. I rolled my eyes at her.
"If you like Jasper that much why don't you ask him out?" I asked her. I would rather her date Jasper than one of the groupies that is always following him around at school.
"Because he is the father of your children."
"Go ahead and ask him out. I do not care if you do." I gave Callie my most reassuring smile. "I would rather have you date him than some dumb girl who thinks she is more important than Kinzey and Kerris. With you, you already know what you are getting into and you are mature enough to handle it."
