NOEL
After that day, living at their home felt so strange and it made me tense almost every day.
We had a little school which would finally be over today, so I couldn't help but rush off to school to push the thoughts away. I still couldn’t believe they were my mates, that night had happened.
I was glad that they were also avoiding me. Yes, for some unknown reason, the triplets stopped trying to bother me. It seemed like they were trying to control the hunger they felt around me and they still hadn’t recovered from what happened between us that very night.
The day seemed nearly ordinary. I found myself alone in the cafeteria, deep in my thoughts, when suddenly a shadow loomed over me, making me turn at once.
"Excuse me, is this seat available?" I looked up to see a boy who I had never encountered before. He wore a shy yet bright smile, and his eyes were filled with a warmth that was quite refreshing in this environment. Was he interested in sitting next to an Omega, unlike the others around here? I shook my head, attempting to sound nonchalant despite my surprise.
"Uh, no, please, take a seat."
"Hi, I'm Nicholas," he introduced himself as he took a seat across from me. "I just transferred here and I am still trying to get a feel for the place."
Oh, this would be the only reason any student would want to sit with me. I nodded with a smile. "I understand how overwhelming it can be."
"Yeah, I'm already sensing that." He replied with a soft smile before asking, "What's your name?"
"Noel." His face lit up with a grin. "Well, nice to meet you, Noel. We can be friends right?”
“Of course,” I replied briefly.
“Great, so tell your secret to survive here, if you don't mind me asking? You seem a bit more free and kind than most people around here."
I let out a small laugh, looking around to make sure that there was no one around to hear what I was about to say. "Well... um, I will let you know that the students we have here are mostly sadists. You should try to avoid some of them and stay as low as possible, so you don’t become their enemies or their targets. Just keep a low profile, and you'll be fine. You know what it is like to be a normal student."
He nodded, inspecting the cafeteria with his eyes. "Doesn't seem that scary, though."
I couldn't tell him that appearances could be very deceiving. "I’m curious to know which school you got transferred from. I hope you don’t mind me asking?"
He nodded, digging into his food. “I don’t mind, we are friends after all.”
I nodded my head.
"So it’s just a town over. We relocated because my mom got a new job." He continued to look around the packed cafeteria, which was a bit confined. "I guess it will take some time before I make friends here."
"You'll fit in soon, I'm sure of it. But you should remember that people around here can be a little rough. It's not so bad once you can avoid them."
Nicholas smiled, and that’s when the familiar voices drifted in. I didn’t even need to turn around to know who they were. The three of them stood right behind us, and my heart jumped. River was the first to announce himself, by slapping his hand down on the table with a deafening smack that made both of us almost jump in fright.
"And who is this new face? Doesn’t seem like one I have seen before?" He asked, going to Nikolas’s front. Nicholas looked scared, one could tell from his shaky legs.
I should have known this was coming. His eyes flicked between the two of us before he continued.
"Looks like you are tired of us and want a new buddy, right?” River asked with a growl. He was acting so jealous while Roman and Rain were right behind me.
Why were they like this? They had been avoiding me up until the moment they saw me happily talking with someone else.
Nicholas, who didn’t understand what was going on and why these boys were harassing him, needed answers.
"Did I do anything wrong?" He asked the boys and they laughed at him.
"He’s also a stupid boy,” Rain remarked, turning to his brothers. “You did nothing wrong but that doesn’t stop us from saying hi." The tone made it clear he was trying to trouble this boy.
I chose to fight for Nicholas by rising to my feet and looking into their eyes. "Can you just go away and let us be? We were having a nice conversation before the three of you showed up.”
River shut his eyes like he was trying to keep his anger in check.
"Calm down, Noel. Can't we just enjoy ourselves?"
Rain went over and took Nicholas's rucksack before I could respond.
“Let's see what the new guy's packing." Nicholas's voice wavered as he attempted to retrieve it.
“Hey! Please return it. But the three of them were already passing it around. Roman didn't seem impressed by his siblings' antics, but I didn't think he had any other choice.
“C'mon, you jerks, give it back!" Nicholas's face was flushed with anger.
As if that weren't enough, they flipped the rucksack over and divided everything. Books, pens, and papers were scattered around, but one thing caught their eye. A little image landed near Rain. He flashed a cunning smile as he took it up.
"Who is this pretty lady?" He quizzed, displaying the photo for everyone to see while sneering.
Snarling, Nicholas said, "Give that back!" They acted like he was talking to himself and continued to pass it amongst themselves, laughing out loud like little children.
They began to call him "sugar mummy boy" and made kissing noises as their laughing got louder.
I felt a rush of rage as I saw them push him away and cause him to collapse.
"What on earth is the matter with all three of you? "Give him some space!"
"What are you going to do?" River made a joke. "Hit us?"
Nicholas kept reaching for his belongings. Chairs clattered and the commotion only became louder as he lunged each time.
When a harsh voice broke through the clamor, the mayhem reached a fever pitch.
"What is going on here?!"
“s**t!" As the Disciplinarian of the school, Mr. Arnold strode towards us, I swore. After glancing at the mess on the floor, he turned around.
Nicholas tried to explain what had happened, but Arnold cut him off. "I don't want to hear it. Follow me to my office now."
A sinking feeling settled in my stomach as we all trudged after him. When we got there, He was situated with his arms crossed. "What the hell happened back there?"
Nicholas opened his mouth but Rain cut him off. "We were kidding, sir. We weren’t trying to cause any trouble."
"No, it doesn’t seem like that, considering what I saw. Do tell me what happened."
"Sir, I’m not supposed to be here. I am not involved in any of this, Nicholas was being harassed by them when-"
“Hmm, if you weren’t part of it, what were you doing with them then? Correct me with proof since I’m wrong,” he added quite coldly.
I didn’t know how to answer his question. "Sir, I didn’t plan for the commotion to happen, nor did I start it-"
“Enough already. You can’t ever answer the question without stuttering,” He had already made his conclusion, therefore there was nothing I would say that could change his mind. "Nicholas, since you are just a new student, I am going to let you off the hook. Make sure to avoid causing a scene in the future, you will not be lucky next time. Go back to class.”
Nicholas was about to say something, he wanted to defend him but I immediately pinched his leg, and he looked at me. With my eyes, I warned him to be quiet and just leave, which he did.
"The four of you will be facing detention."
How could he do this? I didn’t do anything, so why was I getting the same punishment as them?
“Leave my office!” He added when I was about to say a few words.
