ELLA
The rest of the night and morning felt so awkward at the Russells, and I couldn't help rushing off to school to put the thoughts away. I still couldn't believe they were my mates, that night had happened.
Thankfully, the triplets didn't come to bother me and I saw that they were also trying to come to terms with the shocking discovery. The day felt normal, thankfully. I was alone at the cafeteria, minding my own business until a shadow fell over me. I turned sharply.
"Hey, is this seat taken?" I looked up to see a boy I hadn't seen before. He had a shy, bright smile, and his eyes sparkled with a kind of warmth I wasn't used to around here. Did he want to sit beside an Omega, unlike everyone here? I shook my head, trying to sound casual even though I was surprised.
"Uh, no, go ahead."
"Hey, I'm Ethan." He said before settling into the seat across from me. "I just transferred here. You know, still trying to figure the place out."
I gave him a nod, followed by a tight, slight smile. "I get it. It's a lot."
"Yeah, I'm already getting that feeling." He replied with a soft smile before he asked. "What's your name?"
"Ella." His face lit with a grin. "Well, nice to meet you, Ella. So... what's the secret to surviving here, if you don't mind me asking? You seem a bit forthcoming, unlike most people around here."
I laughed a little before scanning the room to make sure someone wasn't playing their silly pranks on me. "Well... um, just just not to stand out too much. Make sure you keep your head done, and you'll be fine. You know, just be a normal student."
He nodded while studying the cafeteria. "Doesn't seem that scary though."
I couldn't tell him that appearance here could be very, very deceiving. "If I may ask?"
He nodded, digging into his food.
"Where did you transfer from?" I asked, curious to know more.
"Just a town over. My mom got a new job so we had to relocate." He took another glance at the packed cafeteria and was confined. "I guess it will take some time before I make friends here."
"You'll fit in soon, I'm sure of that. But you should know... people around here can be a little rough, but it's not so bad once you get to know them."
Ethan smiled, and that's when the familiar voices came through. I didn't even need to turn around to know who they were. The three were standing right behind us. My heart jumped. Jace was the first to announce himself when he slapped his hand down on the table with a deafening smack, making the two of us jump.
"Who do we have here..." His voice trailed off as he circled us, stopping behind Ethan whose brows had gathered.
I should have known this was coming. His eyes darted between the both of us before he continued.
"Looks like you're making new friends." Justin and James were right behind me.
Ethan, confused and a bit nervous, looked up and asked. "Uh... sorry but do you guys need anything?"
Jace laughed. It sounded so cruel. "Of course not, kid. We were just saying hi." The way he said it made it clear that he wasn't just saying hi.
I stood up for him, returning their glares. "Leave him alone, okay? He hasn't done anything to you."
Jace rolled his eyes. "Relax, Poopella. Can't we just have some fun?" Before I could react, James reached over and grabbed Ethan's backpack. "Let's see what the new guy's packing."
Justin's voice shook as he tried to grab it back. "Hey! Give it back." But the three were already passing it between them. Justin didn't seem impressed with what his brothers were doing but I didn't think he had another choice.
"C'mon, you jerks, give it back!" Ethan was red with anger and frustration. As if that wasn't enough, they ripped the backpack upside down and spilled everything. Books, pens, and papers were scattered everywhere but one thing caught their attention. A small photo that had landed near James. He picked it up and a wicked smile crossed his face.
"Aw, is this mommy?" He sneered before holding up the picture for everyone to see.
Ethan growled. "Give that back!"
They didn't. They only laughed and passed it around, making kissing noises and whispering "Mommy's boy" while laughing harder each time. A surge of anger ran through me as I watched them push him back and make him simple.
"What the hell is wrong with the three of you? Leave him alone!"
"What are you going to do?" Jace quipped. "Hit us?"
Ethan wouldn't stop going for it. He tried to grab his things and lunged out almost every time. Chairs clattered and the noise only grew louder. The chaos had already reached fever when a stern voice cut through the noise. "What is going on here?!"
"s**t!" I cursed, seeing Mr. Lewis, the school proprietor march towards us. He took one look at the mess on the floor and looked back at us. "Five of you, in my office! Right now!"
Ethan tried to explain what had happened but Lewis didn't let him finish. "I don't want to hear it. My office, now."
A sinking feeling was already dealing with me before we left for his office. When we got there, He was already seated with his arms crossed. "What the hell happened back there?"
Ethan opened his mouth but James cut him off. "We were only joking, sir. Didn't mean any harm."
"No, you meant a lot of harm, considering what I saw. You! Emily! What happened."
"I wasn't part of it. They were bothering Ethan and-"
"Are you saying that you didn't have anything to do with this, at all? Because that's not what I saw."
The confusion seized me. "Well... no, but-"
“That's all I need,” He looked so disappointed as he shook his head. "Ethan, I'm giving you five days of detention since you're now and likely didn't know better."
Ethan looked stunned but didn't argue. He only replied with a nod, looking so defeated. Lewis turned to the four of us. My heart was pounding.
"As for the four of you- a one-week suspension."
I protested. "Sir, but I-"
He cut me off immediately. "Out of my office. Now!”
