Kris was downstairs when we arrived, but so was one of Gray's most trusted assistants and two other women. Gray was holding my hand, and once Kris saw us, he abandoned the toy he was playing with and ran up to Gray.
Gray leaned to him and took him in his arms, lightly kissing his cheeks. The boy started to chatter about the action figure, and I watched him, a smile playing on my lips.
He was adorable and quite easily loveable, and I hate that the first three years of his life, he was taught survival instead of love.
Gray listened to him talk for a few minutes and laughed along with him through it. Once Kris was done, Gray set him back on the floor so he could go in playing, and he turned to the assistant.
"Thank you for making it on such short notice."
The man smiled. "You are welcome, Sir. These are the best the company has, and I had to pay a bit more than their original employer as they already had an attachment."
"As long as they take care of my son, that is all that matters. I will need you to stay back with both of them throughout, but I will check them myself tomorrow."
"Why?" I asked, my voice in a low whisper so the women wouldn't hear us. "You don't trust the company?"
"I don't trust anyone I can buy," he said simply, turning to me. "There are cameras around, but I prefer prevention."
I nodded slowly. He was making sense. The fact that they had accepted more money to ditch their previous employers was a red flag to him, and I couldn't exactly blame him.
He was a businessman. Things like these will always turn him off.
"I will take care of everything here, sir."
Gray nodded, and I took a moment to talk to Kris. He was distracted and jumping around, but I got to hug him tight and kiss his cheeks before I leaned away again.
I watched Gray do the same thing, slightly ruffling his hair in an affectionate manner before he moved away, his hand gently wrapping around the waist.
"Let's go," he said, and I immediately followed, my heart thumping loudly in my chest.
