Chapter 5
The entire family had stayed up until midnight on Wednesday, discussing what had happened the past week or so since Donald Edmonton had gotten in touch Ryder, explaining how Dad had come to be Ryder’s father, and waiting for Dad’s contact to…contact him, which he hadn’t done.
Finally, Mom and Dad decided enough was enough and it was time to go to bed. “We’ll deal with tomorrow in the morning.”
“Work—”
“Take the day off.”
Ryder held still for a moment, then nodded. “I’ll call State now and leave a message.”
“Smart move, my boy.” Dad looked tired.
“Dad.” Ryder went to him and touched his shoulder.
His father smiled and then did something he didn’t do too often. He hugged him. “I’ve always loved you, Ryder. From the day you were born and the doctor put you in my arms.”
