CHAPTER 7

Judith POV His hand went to softly caress my cheek, and I can’t lie that I wanted him to kiss me so bad. I had many dreams about Elijah before, but none of them could even compare to how heated the situation is between us right now. He inched even closer towards me, sucking all the air from my lungs. “I…” he used his thumb to brush my lips, making me shuddered. “Please don’t.” I put both hands on his chest to stop him. “You had no idea how much I want you, Judith.” He said with a deep hoarse voice. He pulled my hairband, releasing my hair. “No, don’t play around with me!” I managed to push him away, but he’s still not giving up. “I am not just fooling around, Judith. I really liked you.” He said with a serious expression. Elijah raked his hair and blew out a breath. For a moment, he looked like he regretted dragging me here. “Just wait and see…I’ll make you fall for me.” He said before he left the room. I fell sitting on the floor after that. I couldn’t believe my own ears. Did Elijah just tell me that he liked me?   I spent the whole afternoon in the library. I didn’t even attend the class until it was time for us to go home. I can’t bear to see him again for now. To be honest, I am feeling a bit embarrassed and afraid. He almost kissed me earlier. My phone startled me when it rang. It was from my dad. “Dad…” I answered after the third ring. “Judy, I am sorry I can’t pick you up today from school. Dad still had a few works left at the company.” He said apologetically at me. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll take the bus home.” I told him. I felt bad already for troubling him lately. “Are you sure about that?” Dad asked me back. I rolled back my eyes. “I’ve been taking the bus ever since I started going to school. I’ll be fine, dad.” I told him. “Okay, see you at home. Dad loves you.” He said before he hung up on the phone. I waited for an hour after the last bell rang before I walked out of the library. Most of the students had already gone back home. I make my way towards the school gate, half running. My heart nearly jumps out of my ribcage as a bike suddenly shows up and almost hits me. “Hey, are you trying to kill me?” she snapped at me. “Get on the bike!” I was stunned at my place. “No, I am not going back with you,” I replied to him coldly. He got off his bike and grabbed my hand. “Don’t be stubborn, Judith. It’s not like I am going to kidnap you or anything.” He said with a bored expression. He took my bag and slung it to his shoulder. “I can take the bus. You don’t need to do this.” I told him as he revved up the engine. “I insist…” He said, giving me the helmet. He already had my bag, and he didn’t seem like he would accept a no from me. *************** Elijah POV She wasn’t in the class after our ‘little’ conversation earlier. I wasn’t really thinking at that time. I just did what my heart told me, but it turns out that I am just scaring her away.      “I swear your neck would hurt from looking at her desk,” Steve said, teasing me. I quickly looked away. “I am not looking at anyone’s desk.” I denied, looking down at my book. Steve elbowed me from the side. “Oh really? I didn’t see you at lunch. Where have you been? Are you with Judith?” he eyed me curiously. I was speechless for a while. Like, how did this bastard know? “Coach called me. He said he wanted to talk.” I lied to him. Steve smirked at me as if he knew that I was lying, but he didn’t ask me any further because the class had already started.   “Do you want to hang out with the boys?” He asked after the class. “No, I have another plan,” I said, leaving the class before him. I waited in front of the library because I knew for sure that she was there. I hid behind the tree as I saw her come out almost an hour later. I didn’t want to confront her directly because her dad might pick her up from school. I don’t want to get kicked in the butt. I was lucky her dad wasn’t here today to pick her up. I knew because she was heading towards the bus stop. I quickly ran to get my bike and stopped her at the gate. “Where are we going? This isn’t the way to my house.” Judith asked, raising her voice a bit so I could hear her. “I am taking you out on a date.” I then told her. “W-what? A date? I never agreed to that.” She replied, stammering a bit. I pulled over in front of a pizza restaurant. “I am afraid it’s too late right now to say that, Jones. Come on!” I said, offering my hand for her. She reluctantly took my hand and got off my bike.    I picked the table near the window, and we sat on the opposite side, facing each other. I let her choose the pizza flavor that she liked, and I was beyond ecstatic as I found out that we had the same preference for food. She dislikes vegetables as much as I do, so we only choose the one with meat and a lot of cheese on top of it. After we put our orders, it turned out a bit awkward between us. I cleared my throat to break the silence. “I’m sorry for what I did at lunch break.” She looked pleasantly surprised by my word. Our eyes met for a while before she looked away. “It’s okay…You did nothing anyway.” She replied. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, so I took her hands in mine. “But I want you to know that it was true.” I paused for a while. “This might be too soon, but can you at least give me a chance?” She retracted her hands from me. “I don’t know…I don’t think I am ready for the consequences.” She replied. I furrowed my eyebrows at her. “What consequences?” I asked her back in confused. She let out a defeated sigh at me. “You know what happened to me that morning. Your girlfriend locked me up in that room.” “How many times do I have to tell you? Gina is not my girlfriend.” I said, taking her hands again. She didn’t look convinced. “Hey, I promised you… I can protect you from Gina. In fact, I already warned her that time not to mess around with you anymore.” I told her.   “But why me? You can have any girls that you want at school.” She asked me back curiously. “Because they’re not even half as kind, as beautiful and smart as you do,” I said, cupping her face. She was blushing, and I am glad I could make her smile again. We had a great time that night. I just found out that we actually had so many similarities, and Judith is actually a funny person. Time tends to fly as we talk, and we even exchanged our phone numbers. That night I took her back to her house. “Thanks for the dinner and for riding me back home.” She said, slinging the bag onto her shoulder. “No problem…” I said, smiling back at her. She was about to get into her house when I called her again. “Judith…” she turned around to look at me. “Yes?..” she answered. “Can I pick you up tomorrow morning? We can go to school together.” I don’t know why I offered her another ride, but I just want to see her again soon. I think I missed her already, even when I could still see her now. “Um…Are you sure it won’t trouble you?” Judith asked me back. Hell no. The only trouble I had was if she said no. “I could pass by this street anyway from my house. It was in the same direction as our school.” I shrugged. “Well, okay then… See you tomorrow, Elijah.” She replied. “Good night, Judith,” I said before she went into her house.
