Chapter 3. The New Alpha

1547 Words
* Alpha Charles * There were several rogues spotted in hiding at the most crowded place in the North, the City. I must pursue the investigation further, as it would be dangerous for the humans to protect themselves against a rogue attack. We had stayed until evening and found a few traces that we must continue our search. Before going back to the Alpha house, I decided to treat the warriors at a restaurant. "Are you sure this is a good place for us Alpha? This looked expensive." Ben, one of the warriors with me, looked around and commented on the elegant place. There are only a few guests around that is why I chose the place. "It does not matter the price, Ben. What I want is for us to have a private conversation, some humans would freak out when they know that we are not among them." He nodded. "You guys order whatever you want. I will come back in a second. Beta Lohan, will you order for me?" "Sure thing Alpha." Lohan is the best warrior in the pack and knows me better than anyone and I am glad that he is with me most of the time. I walk towards the hallway leading into the gentlemen's toilet. The elegant restaurant is one of the most expensive places in the City, but the reason for taking my warriors there is for us to have a more private time to eat. I soap my hands from the automatic dispenser and wash in the sink, then go back as soon as I finish my business inside the comfort room. My steps slowed down a little looking at the couple sitting near my warriors. Two humans, I shouldn't be bothered by them but the woman suddenly looks my way and meets my gaze. She has a beautiful expressive set of hazelnut eyes, surrounded by thick and long lashes. The way she looked at me was like a challenge and I could not take my eyes off her for a moment until I realized that she was on a date. I continued to my table, looking at the smiles on my warrior's faces. "They are looking at us Alpha." John, the youngest warrior informed me as I took the glass of whiskey in front of me. "Humans, don't mind them. Only a few of them are gifted enough to notice our true identity." Beta Lohan looks at them again and then glances at me. "The woman looked familiar Alpha, I think I have seen her picture once when your father took me for a meeting at the Bannister mansion. If I am not mistaken, she is the daughter of Mister Lorenzo Bannister, the hunter." "Well damn, aren't we lucky tonight. The last thing I wanted was to bump into the human hunters. The way they merge with our investigations just annoys me the most. But I have to respect my father's will or I would get a scolding from the old wolf." Beta Lohan nodded. "Aren't you going to meet up with the Bannisters Alpha? They are still not aware of the title being passed on to you." I raised one brow and looked at the couple in front of me. I could very much inhale a faint scent of roses in the air, which I am sure is coming from her. Well, as long as they did not stick their nose with my job then we will have no problems at all. It is not my intention to hurt the humans living in the North. I am protecting them as well. The food my warriors ordered came and they started eating, however, I lost my appetite for some reason. I poured myself another glass of whiskey and let my eyes linger on her back. How old is she? She must be very young and would pass as my daughter if I were born into the human family. That is if I had a child at the age of fourteen, which is possible for humans. I shake my head and look around the quiet place. The warriors seemed to have enjoyed their food, finishing every last drop on their plate. When I finished my third shot of whiskey I signaled Lohan to take the bill. It seems that we will be going home first which is better for me. Lohan took his wallet and counted on some cash when another waiter came to their table. Looks like they are finished with dinner too. "It's done Alpha." I glance at Beta Lohan and stand up from my seat followed by them. "Great, let's go." I had a glance at the woman and her date before walking ahead of my warriors. They all followed me to the elevator when John raised his hand to tap Lohan on the shoulder. "I'll follow you downstairs Beta Lohan and Alpha. I need to take the restroom." Beta Lohan nodded and pressed on the elevator. The three of us went down first. I turned towards Beta Lohan. "Now, I am thinking of a visit to Mister Lorenzo Bannister next week after this mission is over. They deserved to know that my father is no longer the Alpha of the North." He nodded as we walked back to the parking where the pickup was being parked. "That's a good idea Alpha." Beta Lohan opened the front door beside the driver's seat where I was sitting. There is a tight space for me in between the white Mercedes if I get in quickly. Unlike Beta Lohan who is shorter and has a medium build compared to me, I have to walk slowly to get to my seat. "Sorry Alpha, you can stay back while I move the car backwards." I smirk and wait in the middle of the parking. "Alright, I will wait here." While standing there and the warriors got inside the pickup, my ears caught the sound of her heels against the concrete and I turned around to see them walking toward me. I held my ground and watched them boldly, I knew my presence was intimidating to both humans and wolves. I have a hunch that the white Mercedes is their ride based on her scent that lingers around the area. She was looking at me with silent admiration that I had to open my mouth and greet her or it would be rude to just look at each when she was with her date. "A pleasant evening Miss Bannister, how is your father doing?" She stopped walking in front of me, with her hands on his elbow. The man beside her eyed me with a flicker of anger in his eyes. "Do you know this man Isabella?" I twist my mouth upwards. "Man is not the right term." Their eyes widened but Isabella recovered first, as expected from the Bannister. "Get in the car first Bernard. I should talk to him, if he knows my father then he should be connected to the Cold Mountain pack." To my astonishment, he followed her and left us alone. It seems that she has more balls than him. "What do you want wolf?" Her eyes turned into slit as her tiny hands gripped into her small pouch. She must be even shorter without her heels on. I look at her up and down, amused that her boyfriend left her to me. "I was just greeting you Isabella, and asking how is your father. Now is not the good time if you want us to talk, we have a long journey back to the Alpha house. Please inform your father that I am visiting him soon." The expression on her face changes from annoyance to blank. "Oh, and who are you to tell me that? You did not even tell me your name." I smiled and looked at her closely. "Tell him it's from Alpha Charles Vernice. The new Alpha of the Cold Mountain pack." Her eyes were surprised from the mention of the word Alpha and she stood there in silence for a while. our vehicle stopped in front of me and I saw John approaching. So I beat her to the words that she was about to speak. "See you soon Miss Bannister, it was nice meeting you." I opened the door beside the driver's seat and took a seat. John hops on the back with Ben while Beta Lohan is driving the pickup. "What was that about Alpha?" He was amused while glancing at the rearview mirror and looking at the white Mercedes. "I figured it was best to inform her that I am visiting her father soon and she looked like she agreed." Beta Lohan smiled and John looked at me. "Oh, that is great Alpha! Can I come?" "No, I am taking Beta Lohan. You and Ben are staying with the other warriors, I should not bring more wolves. You know the Bannisters are hunters. They would be alerted if I take more of our kind on their land." John groans while Beta Lohan glances at me. "I think the lady likes you Alpha." His eyes were amused, it was not the first time that Beta Lohan commented every time a person from the opposite s*x took a liking to me.
