Chapter Seven Married to the Alpha |Maria| "WHERE'S Lucas?" Instead of answering Baron, I gave him a glare but the i***t only gawked back at me. I can't help but roll my eyes to him. I really wanted to hit him hard to get my revenge but he always slipped away! Now he's standing a few feet away from me like he's securing his own safety from me?! "Could you please stop doing that?" I threatened, referring to what he did as we eat our lunch a few hours ago. But instead of taking it seriously, he laughed echoed almost at each corner of the house! My lips protruded to what attitude he just showed me. Argh, this bastard! Why does he keep laughing? "Why? What did I do?" he asked innocently. I glower at him which made me more annoyed. Grrr. I really wanted to hit him again. Just be prepared when I catch him... I remembered what happened. I really didn't know that it's Baron's plan to let Lucas be jealous of us! And I wasn't really expecting that Lucas will be jealous also! What devil has possessed Baron to do that to his cousin?! He seems to have fun seeing his cousin irritated and almost explode by its short temper! Until right now, my mind cannot seem to comprehend what Lucas said to me when we're alone at his room. Is it for real? Is it really that... he's really jealous with his cousin, Baron? But why? Only those person who feels that we're... "... I am afraid that you'll choose to be with him instead of me." I pressed my lips together. What he said keeps playing in my mind like a broken radio. It was like I was immediately teleported into a dream from reality! Like I always said, this isn't the way life I was expecting here in this mansion. Being his wife was not really in my option. All I thought was I'll be a slave as p*****t of my family's debt to them, like the usual happening, especially if it was a great debt. But being married to him? It was a milestone reason to pay our debt to them! What does he'll achieve of marrying me and being his wife? Does he have an ultimatum and he needed a wife badly? Or his father wanted a grandchild as soon as possible? I blinked at my own thoughts as I bit my lower lip. I could feel my cheeks getting warm. W-Well, that's a possible reason. B-But, he could find another woman as an option right? Why me? Because its a greater advantage that we'll agree since of our debt? "But Maria..." I was taken back to reverie when I realized me and Baron is talking about something. I blinked for how many seconds. My mind wanders anywhere and seems to forget my irritation to him. "What if... you've discovered something about Lucas that is unexpecting?" he riddled. My forehead creased at his question. I remembered again what happened that night, and what I had seen. It was Lucas, who shapeshifted into a human before I passed out. I swallowed hard and look at Baron's eyes directly. He's leaning on a massive column as his arms crossed together on his chest. He knows something, I could tell it. I was also told by Aunt Helen to ask Lucas directly but it always slipped into my mind whenever we're together. "What do you mean?" I asked innocently even though I have an idea to what he was trying to say. He uncrossed his arms and put it on his both pockets, never taking his eyes off of me. "What if, he's not an ordinary person you're thinking?" he added. I don't know why but if my hunch is right, he really does know his cousin's real identity. He's asking me a trick question for him to know what I'll gonna react into that situation. If I hadn't known better, maybe I'll be totally confused and be bothered to what he was saying. Especially if he revealed that... Do werewolves still exist in this era? The world is modern now and werewolves and other supernatural creatures are out of the picture. But then, how could I judge if my husband is a werewolf right? "Stop giving me clues, Baron. Be straight to the point please.." I roused, almost whining. He didn't move but his expressionless stares stayed into mine. I really thought that he was serious especially when he walked towards me. When our distance was almost inches away, he smiled out of sudden and reached for my left cheeks and pinched it! My eyes widen in shock and screamed in pain to what he did! "Baron!" I fumed. Instead of worrying to what he did to me, the devil laughed again with his heart out. I stand to catch him to get my revenge but he instantly pulled away! I remembered my rage towards him a while ago! "You seems so serious. I really can't help but to laugh 'cause you seem to believe to what I say," he commented, still chuckling. I pouted as I stared at him. He's outside the gazebo after staying away because of my chase. I choose to stay silent as I walked out. Tss. As if what he said a while ago is not true. I'm not buying his jest right now. I know he's changing the topic cause he might say the truth. Well, I'm not in a hurry to know everything. I can just investigate on my own. "Hey! Where are you going?!" he asked when he realized that I'm walking away from him. I didn't turn my back as I answered him. "Somewhere away from you..." I sneered. I heard his loud laugh again, which is really making me more annoyed. Grrr... I went upstairs and went straight to my room. My heavy steps echoed the hallway as I walk. Baron never missed annoying me. He knows really well which or what is making me annoyed easily! I arrived outside my room but didn't enter immediately. I stopped and looked at the door at the end of the hallway. I stared at the closed door. I wonder what is he doing? After a second I sighed heavily as I chose to open my door and enter my room. I went straight outside the open balcony of my room. The cold breeze of air immediately greeted me when I arrived outside. I walked near the railings and laid my hands on the rail as I enjoyed the overlooking view in front of me. My room is facing a wide garden, and at the distance was the tall and thick forest. The sun is almost setting and an hour or so until the sun hides at the west. I stared at the massive trees, with thoughts wandered in some things. I was staring there blankly for a couple of minutes when I saw something. I scrutinized at the thing I saw only to find out it is an animal. It is sitting at the top of an inclined rock which is very visible to where I am since it is located in an open space. I blinked twice and it disappeared like a bubble. I swallowed and got anxious. Now I could really tell what I saw, especially the sun is still up. It's a werewolf. And If I saw it right, it is looking at my direction, like it saw me or something. My heart beats faster this time, too agitated to what I just discovered. So I decided to went out of my room and go their at that inclined rock! I met Baron halfway ascending the stairs. I saw him get still when he saw rushing down the stairs. "Where are you going?" he asked, eyes following me. I ignored him as I run to go out of the mansion. After a few seconds, I heard his heavy steps following me. I continued running, not minding if Baron is really following me or not. I finally arrived outside and continued my way towards the forest where I saw the werewolf. I heard Baron calling me but I ignored him again. "Maria?! Where are you going?!" I ran as fast as I can towards the forest. The only thing in my mind right now is if I could chase the werewolf even though it's impossible. The surroundings' started to dim gradually, but I could see a post of lamp scattered anywhere with a plan. I am nearing to enter the forest when I heard Baron's voice calling me again. "Maria! It's dangerous to enter the woods at this time!" he shouted which made some birds flew near me. I was gasping for air but as usual, I ignored him again. Few strides more before I have finally arrived inside the woods. I stopped when I felt something weird in the surroundings. My shoulders are moving up and down as I gasp for air. I marvel my eyes inside, but all I could see were the peeking rays of the sun under the shadows of trees. A few seconds later, I felt Baron's presence beside me. "Maria! What are you thinking and you suddenly decided to go here?" he burst in a whisper. I wasn't able to answer him. My mind is focused on something else, and that is to find that incline big stone! When I saw it at a distance, I run again and went straight where it is. When I arrived in front of it, I can't help but stare at it. I wasn't expecting that this is high. I look up to its top. It's as high as a one-story building! "Maria... haven't you cleaned your ears for years and didn't heard what I said? Or you purposely ignoring me?" he said in an annoyed tone. That's where I decided to look at him. He was gasping for air when I saw him, the same as me. He eats the distance between but overlooks at my back. His eyes went back to mine as his jaw clenched together. "Let's go back to the mansion. It's dangerous here.." he said with finality. He reached for my hand to hold it but I forcedly pulled away. I saw how his eyes widen in shocked at my sudden action. I stared at him. "Then I have a question.." I said. I just want to confirm it, now that I saw one right now. I know I am sure about Lucas' identity but it's different when someone confirms it. Tss. I even told myself I can wait about knowing everything. But I happened to saw one so... "Tell me the truth Baron. I know you know everything about Lucas. You said it yourself," I started. His eyebrows almost corded together. I glimpse at his both hands and saw that it balls in a fist. "What?" he asked, almost whispering. I almost grinned at his question. This is it. "Is Lucas a werewolf?" I finally asked what is bothering me for almost a week. I saw him froze at what he heard but I'm serious about it. After a second, he seems to gather himself up and his face became stoic and expressionless. His atmosphere instantly changed and started laughing again, which is I hate the most when I'm asking about something serious. It seems the situation flipped at a moment. A few seconds ago, I was grinning in happiness that I could finally know Lucas' identity but Baron immediately turned the tables! Argh... "What a joke Maria! Goodness, it was so good that I could pass my crown as the joker royalty to you," he said, laughing. I rolled my eyes. Is he stupid? He knows very well that he's not a good actor. And I know human behavior very well. Maybe he realized that I didn't laugh with him so he cleared his throat and looked at me. Somehow, I saw him feeling ashamed at his action. He sighed and grabbed my hand again. I felt him pulled me but I resist with all my strength. "Let's just go back, Maria. How many times do I have to tell you that it's not safe here.." he grumbled. He started to walk as he pulled me but I forcedly took my hands at his hold. He turned to me again, shock plastered to his face. I used that chance to escape from him. I ran and started to climb the inclined rock. It was difficult at first but after overcoming it, it's almost easy as I ascend. "Maria! Get down in there!" he clamored. I stopped and looked at him below. He's looking up to me and I noticed that he's not going after me. I grinned at him. "Why don't you answer my question? Is Lucas a werewolf or not?" I said, threatening him like I'll do something stupid, even though I'm not. I waited for his answer but he didn't utter a single word. I sighed. Somehow, I'm expecting him not to answer me, maybe his protecting Lucas or something. I don't know. I continued walking until I arrived where I saw that werewolf sitting. I stand as to where I perceived I saw him and then turned around and only to be greeted by the wide woods. Baron called me again but for the nth time, I ignored him. I wandered my eyes to the corners of the woods, trying to find any trace of the werewolf I saw about minutes ago. I sighed again when I find none at that macro area. I turned again and faced the mansion. I took a couple of steps forward to see what beneath me but only to see Baron glaring at me. "Just go down here, Maria. It's getting dark already," he commanded. I ignored him again and looked at the ombre of orange and blue sky. It seems that the sun is almost setting at the west. The sun's rays are already beyond me, indicating that a few more minutes or so, it's twilight already. But the werewolf... I sighed and for the last time, I wandered my eyes at the woods, hoping to see anything, a shadow or footprint which is impossible to see anyway. But.. give me anything.. anything at all. "Maria! Get down in here!" he called again. It seems that I failed at my quest and I feel so disappointed and upset that I wasn't able to find anything. Well, if it disappeared before I even arrived here, its really impossible to trace that anymore. I sighed again and decided to went down. It's getting dark already. I looked at Baron beneath the inclined rock, glaring at me again. "Okay! I'm getting down already." I recant in a loud voice. He didn't even budge and continued looking at me. I glance at the mansion before I finally decided to go down but I blinked twice when I get of glimpse of Lucas who's looking at me intently. He's standing outside the balcony of his room, which is not that far from mine. I swallowed when I get nervous suddenly. Goodness. "Maria! What are you still doing there!" he shouted. I was expecting his series of buzz when I didn't even hear his voice out. Maybe he noticed that I was looking at Lucas. Both of us stared at each for about a couple of minutes when suddenly it was interrupted by a howl somewhere. I froze and immediately looked back to where it came from. At first, I thought it was just a lost dog howling at a distance that cannot be seen, but when it howled again, much stronger this time, I remembered the howl I heard when I was chased down. Werewolves... My eyes searched for it at the corners of the wood. I walked slowly, planning on getting down from this inclined rock. "Maria! Get the f**k down in here immediately!" Baron shouted, almost cursing me. I don't know why but I could hear the panic in his voice. I was about to look at him when I get a glimpse of some creatures that is approaching at the distant. At first, I thought it was alone, but a couple of seconds, each of them emerged and seems to be only hiding at those big trees. My heart beat fast, my breathing hitch and swallowed hard. Somehow, I feel so weak to what I am seeing now. My eyes followed the line of how many are them. They're walking slowly and somehow, I could feel their gazes towards me. "Oh God.." was the only reaction I've made as I realized that they walked towards where we are now. The one who seems leading them howled again. And I almost jump in shock when suddenly I heard a thud as someone has landed beside me. "I told you to get back to the mansion. You're so stubborn.." I heard Baron whispered. I looked at him as my eyes widen in shock. H-How did he get here? I was about to ask him when again, I felt someone landed in front of me. I noticed how Baron's jaw clenched together as he looks at someone in front of me. He moved swiftly until I found myself behind him like he was protecting me. I get to glimpse at the werewolf who is now in front of Barron. I tried swallowing the nervousness I felt right now. He's so big that I can't even tell if he's really a werewolf or not. Are they this been massive all along? I blinked for a couple of times when I saw how he shapeshifted into a human. Stunned, I could feel my body weakens at what I had witnessed. I gasped in shock causing myself getting his attention. My mouth fell open. Goodness, I wasn't really expecting this! All I want to know is Lucas' identity. All I wanted to know is to see those werewolves I've seen here! Only one! Not... I looked at the werewolves who surrounds us right now. I looked back at the guy in front of me. He's now topless, but like what the usual perception of man, their body is almost chiseled, tanned skin, like a warrior that is always ready at any battle that may come. I swallowed again, trying to calm myself. But what's happening right now is too much for me. I could feel my heart hammering unto my chest and my knees almost turned like jelly! "Where's the Alpha?" I heard the man asked who's in front of us, Baron. That's where I realized the silence of the surroundings. But I couldn't help but be shocked more when those werewolves that surround us, shapeshifted one by one. "What do you want, Sandro?" I almost jumped in shocked when I heard a familiar voice behind me. I turned around immediately, only to see Lucas whose looking at me intently. Goodness! How fast did he get here?! I gulped and looked down. I thought he'll walk towards me but he passed me so I followed him. He walks in front of Baron and faced the guy he called Sandro. That 'Sandro' looked at me first before finally bowing his head to Lucas. I saw Lucas nodded then that 'Sandro' raised his head. "Franco told us that Luna is at your side right now.." he said. He glanced at me again but immediately looked back at Lucas. Lucas turned to both of us, Baron. He looked at me first before averting his eyes to Baron. He just nodded which made Baron nodded back. My one brow raised at their sudden secret message to each other. I can't help but get curious about it. I felt Baron's hold on my wrist which made me looked at him. I want to ask Baron between their secret talk of Lucas but I stopped myself prying at it. "Let's go back inside the mansion," he whispered to me. My forehead creased and looked at Lucas, only to see him looking at us. He smiled a bit and he nodded at me like he's telling me to obey Baron's bidding. I wasn't able to argue about and just found myself agreeing to what he messaged. We walked down from the inclined rock while Baron is holding my wrist. I can't help but feel the stares of those people around us. My head is bowed down until we've finally gone out of the forest. I don't know why but I felt relief after that. I gasped for air as I looked at the almost night sky. After that, I looked back to the forest, only to see Lucas and Sandro talking at each other seriously. I looked at that 'Sandro' guy. I remembered what he said about Lucas, him being with the Luna or something... Luna? Where did I hear that word, again? I was in deep thoughts of remembering what does that word mean when suddenly Baron called for my attention. "Let's get inside, already," he said. I nodded and followed him until we get into the mansion. Aunt Helen immediately greeted us when we entered from the main door. "What's happening Baron?" she asked when she saw him first. But when she noticed me, he swiftly moves towards me and inspects me like something is wrong. "How about you, Maria? Is there something wrong to you?" he said in worry. I shook my head for an answer. "I'm fine Auntie, just a bit tired and weak." I honestly said. She stopped looking at me and looked into my eyes directly, weighing if I'm saying the truth or not. When she noticed that I'm saying the truth, she heaves a deep sigh of relief. "Good to hear that," she said as her hand on her chest. I didn't utter a word after that and decided to look at Lucas. "I'll just prepare for dinner. Just be on the dining after a couple of minutes." She said as she broke the long silence between us three. She looked at Baron before finally walking out of the living area. I followed her and noticed that she seems in a hurry. I looked back at Baron, who seems in deep thoughts. I remember their secret stares at each other with Lucas. "Baron..." I called him to get his attention. He turned to me but I can't help to swallow hard. If I asked him, would he answer me? Especially for that unexpected situation that happened a while ago. "Is Lucas a werewolf?" I asked directly. He just stared at me. I saw how his jaw clenched together, like his controlling himself. After that, he let out a deep sigh and massaged his temple. "This your curiosity of yours almost lead you into danger.." he said as he walked toward the sofa and sat there. He rested his back on the backrest and closed his eyes. I followed him and sat beside him as I faced him. "Then... is it really that he's, a werewolf?" I asked, almost whispering the last word. He opened his eyes and look at me. "What made you bring yourself inside the woods?" he said curiously instead of answering me. I bit my lower lip and look away. Well, will I tell him? It seems that he knows about the existence of the werewolves. And maybe, he really knows the real identity of his cousin. "Well, I happened to see a werewolf at that incline rock and I was curious and..." I stopped and looked away. I heard his deep sigh. "So that's why.." I heard him whispered. I didn't bother asking him in what he meant by that. But instead, I asked him again. "Well, you're not answering my question, Baron." He let out a deep sigh and faced me. He stared directly into my eyes. "Well, this isn't my position to tell you about it. It's better that your husband will tell you about it. But from what just happened, I am forced to inform you this.." he said. He heaved a deep sigh again. He closed his eyes, for the thought that his preparing himself from telling me the truth, but when he opened it again, I saw how his eye-color changed from dark brown to pale gold. My eyes widen in shock. "Yes, Lucas is a werewolf," he said. I swallowed hard, my heart starts to beat faster than normal. Goodness! He's.. he's... I blink for a couple of times. My mind is still processing what I have just witnessed. I can't believe that my ex s***h best friend, is a f*****g werewolf in real life! We've known each other for almost five years now! "As well as me. I am also a werewolf. But not the same with Lucas." he continued. I wasn't able to utter a word. I was only expecting Lucas to be a werewolf. But not him, not Baron. I let my back rests on the sofa. I looked at the grand chandelier above us. I gasped for air as I calm myself. When I was able to gather myself up, I faced him again and he seems to be ready at any questions I'll throw him. But it made me curious about him being different from Lucas. Why? Is there different breed to each of them, like the usual canine family do? "Why? Which breed are you?" His eyes widen at my sudden question. Seconds passed when his laugh suddenly echoed at the area. His one hand at his stomach, like he's holding his life at my sudden question. "Goodness! Really, you're asking for a breed, Maria? What are we, a f*****g dog?" he said as he laughed his heart out. "Why? What's wrong in my question? You told me that you're different from your cousin. So I'm expecting that the two of you differs from the breed. And yes, somehow I thought it was the same as for dogs." I innocently explained but didn't stop him from laughing. Grrr. He's so serious awhile ago like he's having a problem or something. But just because of my sudden question, he burst out in laughter. After a couple of seconds, he stopped laughing. Good thing. If he didn't stop, maybe Auntie was right that I should have asked Lucas about it. "Because you concluded that we're like a dog that has breed! Who's not laughing at that! And that's a downgrade for a werewolf you know, we're much better from them.." "Why? Is it not? Why don't you just tell me so that I could understand!" I said almost annoyed. He stopped himself from laughing. He cleared his throat as he looked at me directly. But his small smile still plastered on his lips. "You see.." he stopped. "The difference between us Lucas is our position," he explained. "Yes, we're both a werewolf but we're different. Have you ever read a werewolf fiction stories about Alpha and Beta? That is how we ranked in our pack. I am a beta, while you're husband is an Alpha and the Alpha's are the one who leads a pack. The respected one. Lucas is the Alpha of pack Lancaster, which is by the way, biggest pack in its existence." I blinked a couple of times. My mind suddenly remembers the story I've read once. It's a werewolf story in which the hero is an Alpha werewolf. Baron said he's a beta. But Lucas is an Alpha. I swallowed the bile on my throat upon my realization. Goodness, so that means... I... I-I am married to an Alpha?! To be continued...
