Greg’s POV
“Beep….. Beep.” I wake up smiling widely.
The sound of the morning alarm has not been easy to hear in my morning for the past seven days. And I am missing the beautiful scenery of the first rays of the sun lighting up my glass cabin and giving it life.
But today is different. I didn’t have the nightmares which I haven't missed in a single day for the last two years and I am making a login call today. A call I make to Alex assures him it's not Eddie who is in control of my mind or body. My wolf's instincts are those of an animal. He can never make the login call.
When am out of control, Peter or Alex drop at the cabin and inject me with wolfsbane which takes me out for almost twelve hours. When I wake up after, my wolf is too tired and lets me off for a few hours before sleeping.
But yesterday was different. When I walked to Leyla's office, something happened that even Alex did not understand. My wolf went MIA. He went missing in action until midnight when I went to sleep. He never took control of either my mind or my body, which is unlike him in the past few days.
The Lake in front of me is large. I would have run into the lake for a quick wash, but today I have no scent that is bothering me, so today is a day to enjoy my shower and dress up.
I am excited.
As I ran out of the forest excited and not cautious, suddenly I slip and fall on a stump. 'Ouch, that hurt '. My eyes are on my feet and I see a part of the stump protruding through my toes, blood already flowing from my toes onto the ground.
I am used to this, so I just position myself in a sitting position, count to three, and pull my leg out.
This time around, the pain is too much for words. It never is for a healthy werewolf, leave alone if he has Alpha blood running through him.
I stay still for a few minutes to let my body heal itself. Our bodies as werewolves have the highest healing powers, but since my body is no longer physically strong, I take three or four times more to heal than it did before.
The wound in front of my eyes disturbs me, but I have no time to waste; it is not healing fast enough, so I limp heavily as I move out of the forest.
I hear ambulance sirens.
'What is happening?'
We don't normally have ambulance sirens in the pack.
The super healing powers make the hospital less useful for many in the pack. It is for emergencies or women who are pregnant or giving birth.
I hop out of the forest trying to make it as quickly as possible to the Hospital emergency door and see what is happening.
From where I stand. I see a lot of pack members surrounding the ambulance, pushing the hopping to the maximum speed. I make it to the entrance of the pack hospital.
When I get there, I freeze…
The memory of the same sirens woke me up two years ago, the same ambulance with the same foul smell surrounding it. Whoever handled that attack two years ago is back and is responsible for whatever has happened now, too.
The patient is a pack warrior, I can tell from his uniform, and is being transferred to the hospital bed. His face is covered with a breathing mask and a layer of sweat covers his forehead. With a visible wound on his neck, he looks pale and dead.
I quickly scan the area around the hospital building and all I can see is everybody’s shocked eyes. They all look at me, searching for answers and help.
One nurse is performing CPR on him, and Mafele is walking out with a defibrillator. “His mind linked us to his location, and we found him lying on the ground on the left side of the pack perimeter with that huge bite on his neck.”
The second nurse holding the patient's breathing mask reports to Mafele. “He needed CPR, and we have been performing for…” He continued the chest compressions as he took a quick look at the watch on his wrist, “… three minutes. His vitals are not stable.”
“WE ARE LOSING HIM.” Shouts the first nurse, who was still performing CPR. The heart monitor is beeping so loudly.
I pull myself together, thinking of a way to be of help, and try to talk to him through the mind link. Wanting to console him, I can’t hear any heartbeat from him but his mind link is still intact. When I try to say something, it cuts off.
“CHARGE.” This is the last word I hear before Alex grasps my arm and pulls me from the hospital entrance to speak to me in the corner.
I step on my hurt foot accidentally as I try to stand properly in the corner.
“OUCH.”
“Are you okay?” Alex asks me with a worried face.
“Yes, I am okay. It’s a minor scratch. It will be gone soon enough.” My face turns questioning, wondering why we are hiding in the corner.
“The pack members are worried. He was one of the best warriors here and also one of the few five-star generals in the human army.”
“I am worried too. What do you have on his attack?”
“Nothing. They attacked him in a blind sport. I think I know who did this...... Did you pick up the foul scent?” Alex enquires with more worries on his face than I have seen on him before.
“Yes, I did. They are back and we need to find them and make them pay.”
“I am going to pick up Leyla. She just arrived. I will get right into it....... This might be a way through or smoke before the big fire that will burn us all if we don’t stop it. What happened two years ago must never happen.” I nod in agreement.
“I have to take a few tests. I will have to wait for Mafele to get done with the warrior first for my results, then I will see Ree. Then after. For the whole day, I will have to stay with Leyla to make sure we get the perimeter safe.”
Alex parts my back. 'This is going to be heavy on us.'
“I will tell Leyla you can't see her now until later.”
I nod at Alex and see him off. Then I take the elevator to the hospital lab to take my test.
My heart beats faster, scared.
'Am I too late? Will I have enough time to save my pack in the remaining few days of my life?'
