Chapter 2 Aldo stood, attention focused on the door, then trotted over. Five seconds later, the bell rang. I was already up and moving. Aldo didn’t bark, just waited patiently in the small entrance hall for me to open the door. As I drew closer, I saw that shock of red through the mullioned window, and I knew Tru was on the other side. Right on time. “Hi!” Tru exclaimed, a bright smile on this face. His brown eyes were more of a warm amber, and sparkled with his happiness. For a moment, I was caught. Before I could even respond, he dropped to his haunches, and held out a hand to Aldo. “A chocolate! It’s not a color you see that often.
