Heartbroken, she turns to a bar for comfort, where a mysterious man helps her. After a brief, unexpected kiss, Alyssa wakes up not remembering much.

But she’s stunned to learn that the man who saved her is her new, hot, handsome Professor Jake Thomson—and he claims they are fated mates.

As Alyssa grapples with Jake’s surprising claim, she must also deal with Tom’s attempts to win her back and Elvie’s ongoing schemes to make her life miserable.

Chapter 1 – The Betrayal
Alyssa’s POV I was practically bouncing with excitement as I made my way to my boyfriend, Tom’s apartment. Today was his birthday, and I had planned the perfect surprise. I glanced at myself in the mirror one last time, smoothing down my dress and fixing my hair. I wanted everything to be perfect, just like how we’d planned our future together. With a satisfied nod, I picked up the birthday cake and the colorful balloons I’d brought. I could almost picture Tom's face lighting up with joy when he saw me. My heart fluttered with anticipation as I walked down the hall. When I reached Tom’s apartment, I paused, taking a deep breath and preparing to knock. But then, I heard something that stopped me in my tracks. Strange sounds were coming from inside—moans, and not the kind that would come from a funny TV show. My heart raced as I listened closer, the moans mixing with muffled voices. One female voice cut through the air, unmistakable and intimate. “Oh, yeah, harder!” she gasped. “Tom, I love the way you pump me so hard. Make it harder!” My stomach dropped. I recognized the voice instantly. It was Elvie Morris—Tom’s friend, yes, but also the girl who had made my life miserable since freshman year. Elvie, the daughter of Beta Arnold and the vice president of our university, had never been kind to me. Tom's voice followed, filled with a mix of pleasure and satisfaction. “Elvie, you’re so tight, I can't get enough of you. This is the best birthday present I could ask for.” My vision swam as a wave of nausea hit me. The man I loved was in bed with the very person who had tormented me for so long. I felt like my world was collapsing around me, each moan and whispered word a knife twisting in my heart. I tried to swallow my emotions, forcing myself to focus. I fumbled for the spare key I had for Tom's apartment, my hands trembling. I didn’t want to believe what I was hearing, but the proof was undeniable. With a shaking hand, I unlocked the door and stepped inside, the balloons and cake slipping from my grasp and crashing to the floor with a muted thud. As I made my way through the living room, I couldn’t help but notice the clothes strewn across the floor—Tom's shirt, Elvie's dress, a scattered mess that made my heart ache even more. I forced myself to keep moving, my breaths coming in shallow gasps. When I reached the bedroom, I stopped dead in my tracks. The sight before me was like something out of a nightmare. There they were, Tom and Elvie, their bodies intertwined on the bed in a passionate embrace. I couldn’t breathe. My vision blurred with tears as I took in the scene. Tom and Elvie froze, their eyes locking with mine, a mixture of shock and guilt flashing across their faces. “What are you doing here, Alyssa?” Tom’s voice cracked as he scrambled to cover himself, his face a mask of horror and shame. Elvie, on the other hand, smirked at me, her arms still draped around Tom’s neck. “Well, well, look who’s here,” she said with a wicked grin. “Looks like she’s caught us in the act.” The words seemed to echo in my head, their meaning barely registering. I was drowning in a sea of betrayal and heartbreak. The tears flowed freely now, blurring my vision as I struggled to keep my composure. Rage and sorrow mixed in my chest, a fierce storm that demanded to be unleashed. I couldn’t stand it any longer. My hands clenched into fists as I lunged towards Elvie, driven by a blind, furious need to make her pay for what she had done. My heart pounded so loudly in my ears that I barely heard Tom's panicked pleas for me to stop. All I could think about was the crushing weight of betrayal and the desperate need to confront the people who had shattered my world. I barely registered Tom’s sudden, forceful shove as I stumbled backward, my heart breaking with every step. “Don’t you dare touch her!” Tom’s voice thundered, cutting through the haze of my pain. I stood there, dazed and helpless, my tears streaming uncontrollably. “Why, Tom?” I choked out, my voice cracking with the weight of my anguish. “How could you do this to me?” Tom’s expression was as cold as ice as he held Elvie close, her smug grin only adding to my misery. “I’ve chosen Elvie,” he declared, “You need to leave and don’t you dare try to hurt her again!” The world seemed to crumble around me, each word a fresh blow to my shattered heart. I couldn’t fathom that the man I had loved so deeply had turned his back on me for the very person who had tormented me. I was overwhelmed by the sense of betrayal. I sobbed uncontrollably, unable to stay in that place another moment longer. I turned and fled from the apartment, my heart breaking into a million pieces with each step. The cold night air did nothing to soothe the fiery pain in my chest. I stumbled down the streets, tears blurring my vision. My steps felt heavy, as though the weight of my grief was dragging me down. Eventually, I found myself standing outside a bar. Without thinking, I pushed through the door, desperate to numb the agony that had taken over my entire being. Inside, the bartender gave me a wary look as I staggered to the counter. “Are you alright? What do you want to drink?” he asked, his gaze flicking over me with a hint of concern. “Just give me something strong, strong enough that could forget my problem.” I slurred, barely able to form coherent sentences. I downed the drinks as fast as he could pour them, trying to drown out the thoughts of Tom and Elvie, of my broken heart.
