Jake P.O.V.
I was waiting for her outside the elevators when Mark came in. He pressed the button, and when the doors immediately opened he looked at me puzzled. He pointed with his hand to an empty cab and asked:
- You're not getting in?
- I'm waiting for a student.
- What? - He laughed and just then Ava came out in that ridiculous outfit of hers. Mark ran his eyes over her, raising his eyebrows higher and holding back a smile. Since Ava had an annoyed look on her face I stopped the elevator door with my hand to wait for us. If she heard what I said and was therefore in a bad mood there was always the chance that she would cool off a bit on the way. On the way to the parking lot Mark exchanged pleasantries with her about her first day on the job. When we arrived at my lamorghini Ava stood with an uncertain look on her face.
I opened the car and took a seat behind the wheel. After a while she got in, taking the seat next to me.
- I thought you were driving with a chauffeur. I was expecting a limousine.
- I like to drive - I saw her fists clenching nervously on her knees so I added - I am a good driver.
I smiled under my breath and set off with a squeal of tires. I drove fast through the city and when I stopped in front of a Chanel store I looked at her. She looked pale but I didn't know if it was because of the fast driving or the place where we landed.
- Let's get out - I chuckled and started to get out but she grabbed my arm stopping me.
- Wait, wait, wait. I thought you were going to take me to some chain store - she looked at me embarrassed - It doesn't make sense. I can't afford to shop here. Let's go to some regular mall.
I unbuckled her seat belt and looked at her seriously.
- First you fought for the uniform, and now that we're here you want to run away. The company is paying. Come on - I got out of the car. As she still didn't get out I opened the door from her side.
She got out embarrassed and I headed for the store. I walked in and Ava was pacing behind me trying to protest.
Once inside, she finally fell silent as the saleswoman approached us asking how she could help. I said we had come to pick out some business kits but we were also waiting for someone. As if on cue, Kate's smiling face emerged from behind the mannequins.
- You are not waiting! - she came up to me and gave me a hug and then looked at my assistant, examining her from head to toe - Hi, I'm Kate.
- Er... Ava...
- Ava? Nice - she laughed and Ava blushed - I'm this asshole's little sister. I know fashion so he asked me to help him today.
- Sister? - It was obvious Ava was thinking hard, but Kate had already grabbed her arm and was leading her to the fitting room.
- Don't worry about it. I already picked out some stuff. Jake said you were six, and I guess he was right, huh? - she started chattering away, leading my assistant by the arm, turning to me every now and then and giving me the eye.
I sat down in the chair across from the fitting room thinking about what I was actually doing here. I might as well leave my credit card with the girls and go home to my business. I was already up and about to say goodbye when the girls came out of the fitting room giggling like best friends.
Ava was wearing a tight black dress with 3/4 sleeves, a scoop neckline and an asymmetrical bottom. She looked professional but also mega sexy. I sat down again and waited for more creations. Maybe it was not such a wasted time after all.
After an hour I had had enough and even the sight of a laughing Kate, embarrassed but clearly excited and happy Ava couldn't help my weariness. I left my card with my sister and returned home.
On the kitchen island, I found a note from Ava listing the to-do items she had for today along with her summaries of them. She ended it with, "PS. Beautiful apartment :) "
I looked at the list again. She had done everything I asked even though it involved running all over the place and some things were really absurd like Point 18. Buy new underwear from Kelvin.
I grabbed my iPad and went to my office. I still had a lot of work to do. There were reports waiting for me to read and I should do an analysis of the latest tracking results for our app. When I went to bed at 2 a.m. it occurred to me that maybe I should shift some of the responsibilities to my assistant.
In the morning, I put together a new to-do list for Ava. It was just as trivial as the day before. I wanted to see how she would hold up this week just doing my housekeeping. If she managed to complete everything from next week I wanted to entrust her with more important matters. I sent the list and 5 minutes later there was a knock at my door. I smiled under my breath and said, "Come in" without lifting my eyes. I expected her to hit her hands on my desk again in anger, but nothing like that happened. I raised my head a moment later and Ava was standing in front of my desk smiling pleasantly. Her hair was tamed and styled in soft sexy waves. She was dressed in a black tight suit, a white shirt with a black ribbon at the neck and low pumps from Chanel.
- Good morning, Jake," she said, twisting around so I could see her from all sides, "I came to thank you for the uniform. As for today's list, of course I'll have it done by 5 p.m. I also wanted to ask for the person's information for the second plane ticket at the end of the month.
- It's a ticket for you.
- Excuse me?
- You're coming with me as my assistant. What's so weird about that?
- Nothing. You just didn't mention it before.
- I didn't have the time - I leaned my elbows on the desk top and looked into her green eyes - Is there anything else?
- No, thank you - she said blushing softly and running out of the office.
Over lunch I met with Mark. From the beginning of our meeting I could see that he wanted to say something but he was holding back. He smiled under his breath, glancing at me every now and then. When we finished our meal he leaned back in his chair and watched me closely.
- What do you want? - I asked, already annoyed by the look on his face.
- How did the shopping with the student go? - he smiled under his breath, still glaring at me.
- Okey.
- Just okey? Fund her clothes and introduce her to your sister? - he laughed without stopping his observations - It's probably something serious.
- I don't know what you're talking about. How do you even know about Kate?
-I met them yesterday. Well?
- She's just my new assistant. I thought that she might actually be suitable for more important tasks as well.
- Yeah...
- Besides, I think we were wrong about her. She's been docile as a lamb since yesterday, plus her outfits. Maybe she would be suitable for a submissive.
Mark laughed while straightening up.
- She's not. I've been in this business too long to know who's good and who's not. I also don't think you would want to share her.
I shrugged my shoulders and got up from the table. I really didn't feel like it. Something was drawing me to her, but I wasn't going to propose to her either. I wasn't interested in a serious relationship, and she was too messed up from the murder of her family to be interested in a fleeting romance. We weren't right for each other. For the first time in my life, I planned not to sleep with my assistant.
