Ralph P.O.V.
I had been standing in front of her apartment building for a few hours watching the surroundings. Her phone was still silent even though I kept trying to reach her. Before midnight a limousine pulled up and Ava got out of it. It was too dark for me to see her condition or who was in the limo. I could only guess that it was one of the assholes she worked for.
I watched as she turned on the lights in the apartment, walked through all the rooms, then the lights went out and she stayed only in the bedroom. I waited a few minutes then pulled out 50ml of vodka. I rinsed my mouth and then spit it out on the sidewalk. I went to the intercom and rang the bell. After several rings I heard Ava's voice:
-Sorry?
-It's Ralph. Open up - I said in a drunken tone. There was silence so I added: -Let me in. We need to talk. Please.
I heard a heavy sigh and then the door buzzed open. I walked slowly, and at her door I began to stagger gently. She stood in the doorframe with her arms crossed looking at me reluctantly. I stood in front of her and kissed her cheek. She turned her head away.
- You stink of alcohol," she howled and then walked into the apartment and I staggered after her. I sat down on the couch and she stood in front of me still angry.
- So? What is it? I was going to bed - she asked angrily.
- Who were you with?
- It doesn't matter.
- Then why haven't you spoken?
- Ralph, I don't have to tell you everything. You're my friend, but you're being too nosy right now.
I looked at her pissed off. She'd never called me that before. She was always polite and nice. I knew that working for them was a very bad idea. They were already changing her.
- Stay away from them," I growled through clenched teeth. Ava furrowed her brow and shouted.
- From who?
- From your bosses. They're bad people.
- Get out. I'm not listening to any gossip.
- It's not gossip. I don't know which one you met with today, but they're all rotten. Did he tell you they were accused of gang r****g a sophomore girl in their third year of college? Or that Tom beat someone nearly to death and got probation for it just because of his father's connivance? They got laid in college, they took what they could, and they still got away with it.
- You're lying. If it were true, why did you want to introduce me to them at the club?
- I wanted to impress you. Just because I'm a billionaire doesn't make it so, I thought my connections would.
- I don't believe you. You're drunk.
I could see she was hesitating. So I got up and walked towards her with a shaky step. I put my arms around her and looked into her eyes.
- I'm the only one you can trust. I have loved you for a long time. You must be with me - I leaned over and kissed her passionately. She froze and then slapped me hard, pulling herself out of my embrace.
- Ralph, what are you doing? We're friends!
- I want more than that," I said, taking a step towards her, but she took a step back, still pulling away from me.
- I don't feel anything like that about you. You're drunk - she whispered.
- But I'm telling the truth. Everything I said is true. I was with you when your parents and sister were murdered. I'm the one you should trust and be with. You won't be as good with anyone else. I'm the only one who knows you.
- Get out. I opened the door wide.
- You are an ungrateful b***h - I fired as I approached. She grabbed the baseball bat standing by the door and tears started to flow down her cheeks.
- Get out.
I left still pretending to be drunk. Being on the sidewalk, I called my chauffeur and moments later I was already in my limo. I walloped the driver and pulled out my phone. After several calls, she finally answered.
- Do you know what time it is?
- She's meeting someone. Why don't I know anything about it?
There was silence on the other end and then a noise, like she was getting out of bed.
- Mr. Miller. You didn't say anything about not seeing anyone.
- Who is he?
- Apparently a colleague. I thought it was good...
- Don't f*****g think about it," I growled, "Find out who it is and tell her it's a very bad idea. I'll give you a hint that it's her employer so you have an easier task to use arguments. She has to be mine instead of some other guy's. Am I clear enough this time?
- Of course.
- Next time inform me about such things right away. Goodbye - I said and hung up without waiting for her answer.
People are idiots. You have to take care of everything yourself. Not everything went according to my plan, but I hoped that I would still be able to fix everything thanks to the misdeeds of the Four Gods. Everything I said about them was true. After verifying that, she would no longer be able to work for them or at least date any of them. She should come to me crying that she was cheated, and then I will be there for her like a knight in shining armor.
I didn't speak to Ava on Saturday. I gave her time to check the information I gave her about her bosses. On Sunday I tried to call her several times but she wouldn't answer the phone from me. In the evening I texted her:
Ralph: , "Sorry. I was drunk. Forgive me."
After two hours, she finally wrote back.
Ava: "I need to think things over. Give me some time."
Ralph: , "How much?"
Ava: , "I'll let you know when I'm ready to talk."
Ralph: "Okey."
It wasn't okey. I had waited long enough. My patience was running out. I was hoping a week would be enough. If not, I would have to use more drastic measures to win her over. I couldn't believe Ava was acting like a naive i***t. I knew women had a weakness for those four assholes, but I still had higher hopes for Ava. I was disappointed. Now I had to find out who had managed to pick her up and do whatever it took to make sure she was still just mine.
