"I'm in a predicament! Karina, I am utterly hopeless. What course of action do you suggest for me to take?" I exclaimed. Karina was my sole confidant, and the only person on whom I could rely. Despite her occasional annoyance, my trust in her never wavered. This marked the fourth time that I had been rejected by a suitor! Could it be due to my appearance? My face is quite attractive; yet, luck with men eludes me.
My first ex-boyfriend broke up with me with a misunderstanding that I was cheating on him with my boss. My second ex-boyfriend broke up with me insisting that he was tired of the relationship. My third ex-boyfriend broke up with me with an excuse of traveling out of the country. My fourth ex-boyfriend broke up with me with no reason. And now, this one broke up with me saying that I'm not longer pretty. I mean who does that? I really tried my best to make sure I no longer suffered any other breakup. But no to avail.
"Oh! That scoundrel! Shouldn't we pursue legal action against him?"Karina retorted as she bit her lip fervently while adjusting her bra - which would have been apparent if not for the discreet manner in which she did so.
"Are you daft or simply ignorant? Even though you are an attorney, surely you must acknowledge that such litigation is unreasonable? Let us let him be."I replied dejectedly — at this juncture, lacking any emotion or flaw — aware fully that there was nothing left to do.
"What nonsense are you saying? There's something prosecutor Augustus taught me. The fact that some individuals require litigation before they learn their lessons. Imagine how exhausting it would be standing before a judge and answering queries from prosecutors; counting on your lawyer to secure victory in court. That's precisely what we ought to teach that man: girls aren't disposable trash."She asserted boldly. Her statement didn't astonish me – she always possessed an element of madness within.Suddenly, my phone rang - It was my boss calling!
"There he goes again. What does he want now on a Sunday morning?"I muttered under my breath while frowning.
"Who called? Your superior?" She whispered curiously.
"Yes sir." I answered the call hesitantly.
"Secretary Mira, can you come over immediately to my office right away?" Hart requested informally but politely over the phone line.
"Sir, perhaps unknown to you, today happens to be Sunday – there's no work scheduled.
I said as my fingers crossed waiting for an positive answer.
"The life of a secretary entails being available at all hours - come instantly". He responded curtly before terminating the call abruptly.
"How infuriating! Wait until later when I'll give you what you deserve!" I said speaking directly into the phone as if addressing him personally.
"Your boss seems rather annoying". Noted Karina sympathetically.
"That is true indeed, but what else can one expect from someone who holds such authority?"

I walked down towards his office building as I opened his office door.
"I'm here boss." I said as I bowed down in accord.
"You're early. Let's start by discussing about the Miami Book Company's contract that was proposed to us last week." He started by saying that.
" Yes sir." I said, even though displeased .
The Miami Book Company was the company our company had been working on for years. It was the best Book Company in the city. Despite our Company's efficiency, the Miami Book Company had always been chosen as the best company. Our company, known to be L'art Book Company, had always been spied on by several detectives. Even as a result, they couldn't find anything.
"I made some research about the Miami Book Company, but there was something off. They sell at least one hundred books per day. But, the CEO of the company do not worth up to a million dollars. How possible is that sir?" I asked showing more interest in the whole situation. My boss, Hart, himself worth more than ten million dollars. But, the fact that the CEO of a very big and well known book company was not as rich as him rendered me speechless.
" You mean the Miami Book Company — our rival? Wow! I can't believe it. What's their CEO's name?" Hart asked concerned.
"Miss Mia Jane. The same Miss that introduced you to online betting." I said as I adjusted my short skirt.
"Oh good gracious! What the heck has happened? Find out more. Or, is she not the real CEO? " He asked me.
Miami Book Company had been known to be one of the largest Book Company in the city. The main issue is that their CEO, Mia Jane, might not be their real owner.
"Accept their contract proposal immediately." He commanded.
"Yes sir. I will do so."
"This company has to be one of the top ten book company this year. We have to work against that company. Find out more about them. I've booked an appointment with Miss Mia right now, so make sure you get there tomorrow by 6pm." He said as he went out of the office.
" Yes sir. "
People did not seem to understand how our company works. Mr Hart, was a complete distant man. It had been the fifth time that our company had been turned down as one of the best book company. People insisted that our company had no efficiency. So, they voted for Miami Book Company as the best book company. Now, a very opportunity for us to win this year contest, Miami Book Company's known CEO might not be the real CEO.

I got back home at 1.am. Anyway, that was the life of a secretary. When I first got employed into L'art Book Company, named after Hart Louis, Mr Hart was my crush. I liked him. But, sooner, I got over him and began to hate him. Maybe because of his cold personality or because I had been closed to him. Whatever the case was, the truth was that I had gotten over him. I did not study writing in school, neither did I study anything related to it. I joined the Book Company because I had to meet ends. The next day, I went straight to Miami Book Company. You know, just to see if something was up. As expected, there were many employees. As I wanted to enter, I was stopped by some individuals. ,
"You cannot enter, ma'am. Do you have a membership card?" They asked.
I was shocked. Though, I knew I would face some problems. But, I never knew membership card would be part of those problems.
"Well, my name is Mira Mesa, the secretary to the CEO of L'art Book Company. My boss has booked an appointment with Miss Mia. Please, can I at least come in right now?" I asked smiling like a madwoman.
" Oh! Okay. Come in. " They said.
The building was a skyscraper. Its walls were made with polished stone. They had tens of thousands employees.
"No surprise that they win the best book company every year. " I thought.
" CEO Hart's secretary is here." A lady, whose appearance looked like someone in her late twenties, who was obvious to be Mia's secretary went inside the office to inform her.
" It's an honour to meet you, ma'am." She said as she brought forth her hand asking for an handshake. Though, I was displeased by the work I was doing, but I had s lot of opportunities to meet celebrities as well as dignities. And that itself was satisfying.
" It really is, ma'am" I replied as her shook her hand. "Our company has decided to sign the contract with you."
"We are deeply pleased to receive your feedback. But, what other choice do you have? Small book companies like you need big companies like us. So, we are not surprised. " She replied bluntly.
I didn't know she was that rude. But what choice do I have. I can't confront her as our company was prepared to bring them down.
"Of course ma'am." I said as I left immediately.

Meanwhile, in another place, was Prosecutor Augustus. He was working on a gang rape case whose trial would be held by closely two pm. He had to gather several evidence in order to claim that the defendant was guilty. Just as he was about to round up with all his files, he got a call from Hart.
"Where are you?" Hart asked.
"I'm preparing for a trial. What's the issue?" Augustus asked.
" Never mind. When you're done , call me right away. " Hart replied as he hung up.
Before he knew it, it was two pm. And the court was already in session. He wore his court gown and headed straight into the court room. He stood up.
" According to the report, on September 18, around two am to three Am, Mr Mike Jill, one of the assailants, lured the victim, Miss Donna John into an hotel named Merry Hotel in Texas. The assailants, Mike Jill, Katy Perry, John Albert and Mr Hyde Park, committed s****l assault on the victim. As a result, the prosecution moves to induct the assailants for s****l assault and for violation of the law of the society." He made his statement as he sat down back.
"Defense counsels of the assailants, do they plead guilty to the charges?" The judge asked.
"Yes." They replied.
"Hereby, the court indict the assailants for s****l assault and violation of the society." The judge ordered.

That was a successful trial for Augustus as he always had to ask queries from stubborn people. That time, that was not the case. The case was quite nice. Prosecutor Augustus had always been Hart's prosecutor. He had always worked on cases for him. As a result, they were good friends. No surprise, Hart surely knew a lot of people. That was one of the things I liked about him. Being with him at all times made me learn a lot. The fact that we have to learn to be close to people in order to survive. Being an ambivert, it took me time before I could accept Karina as my best friend as I had trust issues. But, what would I have done? The fact that I trusted those jerks that dumped me, also meant that I could trust my best friend.
