Chapter Three I spent the balmy days of spring, the sultry hours of summer and the warmth of autumn with my husband’s family. I accommodated him and myself, hard lessons learned, there would be little defiance in me. As the autumn began to change however, and the first winds of winter struck my face, I found myself shivering with more than just the chill. Some shadow passed over me at that time, so deep and abidingly dark, I had to believe something was about to shake the uneasy peace I had with my life. It was a feeling that haunted me until the day I discovered that it was a premonition of the future. During these weeks, Erik was gone with the other men, long journeys taking them to distant territories. There were two months in winter that I never saw him and I began to wonder if the m
