I lay awake. Sleep had been more elusive since meeting Charlotte than it had ever been. There were so many things I hadn't said tonight, things I wasn't sure she was ready to hear. Things I probably wouldn't be able to explain without rambling and making no sense to anyone but myself. I watched the curtains billowing softly, like clouds of smoke, floating around the end of my bed. And after four cigarettes, another whiskey and three attempts to watch the beginning scene of a movie, I knew I was getting nowhere fast.  I needed to see her. Selfishly, maybe.
