Makie’s face and voice revealed how worried she was when she answered, “He hasn’t been seen since the funeral.” “He can’t just have vanished off the face of the earth, damn it.” “So you’d think, but to all intents and purposes he seems to have done just that.” She thought back to the day of the funeral two weeks previously. It was something she’d had to arrange, as there had been no word from Vance after the moment that she’d told him about his father’s death.
